I love riding and I love exploring, so I'm down for just about anything. Unfortunately I'm going to be out next weekend. But I'm willing to test the boundaries of my gear after that.

I was there earlier tonight. There were reps from each major manufacturer with an example of most every bike from their current model lineup. There were also a few accessory manufacturers and a few gear retailers with a presence. I don't think that the show was really worth $12 to me, since I've done some pretty decent research on what my next bike will be and have already had an opportunity to put a leg over those options. But if you want to really get some bandwidth for putting your butt in some saddles, this has got to be the best way to do it.

Also worth noting: Free bike parking and free gear check (a la coat check). Didn't have to worry about hauling my coat / backpack / helmet around.

Moto Liberty is doing a big sale / party tomorrow. Anyone gonna go check it out? I've not done a whole lot of shopping for gear around Dallas, but I was really impressed by their selection.

full disclosure: I'm a customer, bought all of my riding gear from them.

I've been using http://www.motorcycleroads.com/Routes/Texas_119.html as a baseline for my routes. There's not much in that area specifically though, it's kinda knee-deep in the city.

You could head west and check out part of Fort Worth, or you could head north and check out some of that area. Eastbound along FM 455 from I35 to FM 543 to McKinney is a nice route. The fissures in the road surface on 543 from the other direction are awful, though.

I need to get to work tomorrow sometime in the afternoon, but if you feel like starting out early (10~11am from MotoLiberty) I'd go exploring with you. PM me if you're down.

I was out trying the first few legs of this route http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/1091/Texas/North-Dallas---455-onto-697.html . I think the contributor had an optimistic view of the road surface, though. Eastbound FM546 out of McKinney has some really really kickass long high speed corners with lots of room and nearly-new road surface. Some other parts of the trail, not so much.

PadreScout, I don't normally care for crash bars on non-adv bikes, but I think that matches the styling on the Striple pretty nicely.

edit: I meant *East*bound FM546. It routes around some warehouses / light industrial near the airport.

It would have been really swank if I actually got a tow. I waited for an hour for the agent to call me back after they arranged everything. Ended up calling in to cancel, and happened to get the agent sitting next to the one I had talked to previously. Apparently an hours worth of effort and she couldn't find anyone that could tow the bike in the area. Gal was in the middle of calling the local PD to see if they had any ideas.

My brother showed up about a half hour after that. He and I went and got a plug kit, plugged it, and rode it home without issue. The tire kept a steady 40psi the entire ride home. (I loving love TPMS)

Pulled this out of the tire

I don't really blame BMW in this case, they tried really hard. The last time I had my car towed I waited an hour and a half, and that was in the middle of Richardson. I think the wreckers around here are just allergic to money or something.

I survived, and now I'll be buying a tire repair kit right away.

I'm not sure about proration. I opted out of the road hazard warranty, and the roadside assistance is complimentary. I don't think I have a claim to any sort of tire replacement.

The last time we went for a ride, HiggsBoson and I started with brunch at The Pub up in McKinney. It looks like motorcycleroads.com is doing serious rennovation, so I can't find the route that we were trying to follow :(.

I know it started with 546, went north at 982, and I think we followed 1377 for a while? I don't remember what road we ended up on further north, but it was amazing. Good elevation changes, good scenery, great road surface, and diversity in corners. I think it was 2729?

We met at about 11:00am for brunch and rode pretty much the entire afternoon. But we also got lost a few times.

It wouldn't be a big deal to join us for or just after brunch and ride with us for as long as you want.

Also, I have a second Sena SMH10 (http://senabluetooth.com/product/intercoms/smh10/) from a twin-pack that I'd like to sell to a local goon. Would be pretty boss to be able to intercom with other people in the group.

As long as you're only doing the brakes on one end of the bike you'll at least have a backup. We don't ride especially hard, and there's certainly no need to feel pressured to push yourself or the bike.

You all may already know this but the Pub has an older sister in downtown Plano called the Fillmore, which is where I hung out a lot before we moved to McK. Also a cool place--not as roomy but I like it a little better.

My coworkers and I used to hit the Fillmore up pretty frequently. But recently they've decided to turn their music up way loud and it really ruins the place.

If everyone's thinking about starting out in McKinney again, we can do the same route that I've been running for a bit http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/1091/Texas/North-Dallas---455-onto-697.html. 697 is the real gem of that trip and it looks like Skreemer and I missed out on a good chunk of it because I forgot where to turn in Tom Bean.

It's kinda short once you get the hang of it, maybe we could skip over to Bonham at the end of the route and try this guy http://www.motorcycleroads.com/75/557/Texas/Texas-Turns-Turns--More-Turns.html ? The only downside being the 30 min slab between the two.

It's a shame that it starts in Denton, though.

Yeah, I'm not really into the big I35 stretch, either. The problem is, replacing that stretch with back roads makes it more like a 6 hour ride. Most folks are already gonna need an hour to get up there and back. Which turns it into an 8 hour day for most - not counting breaks. I think I may go scout the area first and see if it's really worth nearly an entire day.

I've ridden to Sanger from McKinney via Celina and Pilot Point, it's a nice ride on a bike. Seems like it would be a lot nicer from the other direction though, westbound lanes had huuuuge ruts in them.

Possibly including a brief trip to Henderson/Knox for lunch? Maybe some White Rock Lake?
