So I just got Shadow of Chernobyl. Do I get both the shaders and the The Zone Reclamation Project or just the Reclamation Project?

New to this series but saw it on sale on bundle stars and looks interesting. Anything else before I start?

Play it vanilla and save mods for future playthroughs, imo.

May I ask why? Reading the op, it seems like that is just fixing bugs and issues that would be annoying playing vanilla. I was also looking at graphic mods which I don't think could really effect gameplay...

Zone Reclamation Project is barely a mod. It's basically an extensive bugfix patch with a few quality of life features that you may or may not want to enable.

1.0005/1.0006 fixed a few problems but there was still a ton and ZRP fixes all of them. Also optimizes the game greatly.

That was my thought after reading your op. So I got that and then like I said some graphics mods as well. I have the next 3-4 weeks off work so look forward to spending a bit of time playing this game!

Welp I've played about 8 hours of Chernobyl and am only at Garbage. Game is pretty great, but drat am I horrible at it.

And then I misclick and hit quicksave instead of quickload a second before death after not doing a hard save for an hour. Gah live and learn.

Is there a reason why autumn aurora 2 isn't mentioned/recommended here? For some reason I installed it for my first play through a few years ago and haven't really tried any other mods.

I also just picked up call of pripyat. I understand first playthrough should be without mods, and this game is pretty bug free so it doesn't really need them, but is there any graphics mods you would recommend for a first playthrough? Should I be using atmosfear?

From the dev

quote:

The first-person perspective was in the early versions of the game, but now it is completely disabled. We plan its completing and adding to the game, but this won't happen in the near future, since this task, unfortunately, is not a first consideration and demands plenty of time and resources.

so coming at some point hopefully.

idk it's only $7.50 so I grabbed it.

Oh wait, nevermind that's been delayed until next year. https://www.pcgamer.com/metro-exodus-delayed-to-2019/

Here's some more info on it. Can't wait to give it a try over the weekend. It's standalone so installing it couldn't be easier.

You do need to navigate to the options to switch it to english, but besides that its just extract and play.

Generally speaking, compression has very little to do with it. You know how a 100x100 pixel image takes up very little space compared to a 10000x10000px image? Now remember that old games tended not to have much in the way of surface depth either; but the high res textures are just components of larger material systems in games, so that depth, reflectivity & gloss, etc. can all be simulated, so every material is like three images and not just one. There are some ways around this using shader generation and being tricky with texture channels but that's not always possible, and it results in greatly increased development time. There is no conspiracy to make your hard drive full, nor are all modern devs just lazy. This is like complaining "wow my pentium 2 doesn't run new games, goddamn is nothing optimized anymore?" file size is just another part of increased hardware demands that all modern games require.

I'm not saying it doesn't suck but I see this complaint a lot and it baffles me.

Understandable. I was thinking more of video/audio. Like blu-ray vs avi and flac vs mp3. Figured storage is cheep enough and internet is fast enough to not really care about compressing those.
