The Curse of Monkey Island is still my favorite one ever, I still have the original CD-ROM somewhere and even managed to find a Mac version of it. For a game that came out in 1997 it still looks absolutely gorgeous, that art style is so amazing and I would kill for a HD remake like MI1 and MI2 got. Escape from Monkey Island I could take or leave, it looks completely ancient now and controls like rubbish, and honestly I don't care for the Tales of Monkey Island games either. It just feels like a game that never should've gone 3D. And I've never been impressed with Telltale Games' adventure stuff. Played through Back to the Future and it was "okay" but didn't do much for me just like "Tales". I've only played through the first Walking Dead and that didn't exactly blow me away either.

Does Disney own Monkey Island now? Maybe they'd be more open to HD-fying CMI one of these days.

I can't agree with the bolded statement enough. I'll never understand why the didn't go for a style reminiscent of Curse, 2d with the gorgeous hand drawn style.

I wonder if EMI was originally a PS2 exclusive or if it was used as the main design platform. That could've had a hand in why EMI went 3D, to "show off" what a new generation of consoles can do. Somehow that then just caught on and they've been 3D ever since, for better or (more often) worse.

Thing is, there wasn't really an "ever since". Escape was the last MI title until Tales, and there had been a long history of... shall we say disappointment by that point(not strictly due to the 3d, but it was a factor). Trying to continue that route instead of, lets say Curse (the strongest game, visually at least, in the series) seemed like an odd decision.

I don't know what you could possibly be referring to, there has never been a game called Escape from Monkey Island. Everyone knows that Curse of Monkey Island was the last game in the series until Telltale came out with Tales. :colbert:

Apparently Dreamfall: Chapters is going to now be episodic, first episode due 'Autumn'.

If it leads to a better quality game I'm cool with this change, Adventure games work well episodically anyway and it sounds the alternative was a delay or a huge cutting of content.

Don't know where I got the impression (unless it was just from the name) but I had thought it always was going to be episodic until I got that update.

Too be fair the "death" in the original Monkey Island was more of an easter egg, seeing as it required you to take an extremely long time to solve an incredible easy puzzle

It's looking quite awesome. I had played their demo (in Unity3d -before they switched to the Unreal Engine) a few years back, of a certain... Riven island, and aside from some skybox and texture issues it was already excellent work for a fan made game.

The project is still a long way from being finished; they are asking for helping hands, if anyone is interested.

I have a question about some (preferably classic) adventure games. When I think of them, what comes to mind from my own experiences are the Lucas Arts adventures (Full Throttle and Grim Fandango being my favorites) and some earlier stuff, Monkey Island, you know...Leisure Suit Larry. I never did play Beneath a Steel Sky though it looked really great. But my question is this...my girlfriend and I do a podcast where we adapt old video games for a serialized radio drama thing, and all of a sudden the actors from the local theatre are really interested in helping out. Does anyone know of any classic adventure games that would work really well as a sort of play? I will use sound effects and music from the game itself, but I'm looking for something mostly dialogue driven -- oh, and one that DOES NOT have voice acting already -- and is well written, preferably not made up of a bunch of jokes and has a cast smaller than, say, 20 people. What comes to mind for me is Quest for Glory III...mostly because the first one was rather goofy and just kind of a little jaunt through a pun filled fantasy land, and I never played II. But I can't remember is QFG3 is really all that good? I played through it a thousand times when I was like ten, but haven't touched it since.

I know some kid turned monkey island into a play and performed it
