A friend and I went out to capture a rail-road bridge. This bridge was built around 20 years ago, to accommodate more trains through the region. Longer curves for higher speed and dual tracks, all opposed to the old single and curvy rail-road. The second picture is taken from that rail-road bank. Two trains passed by, we where walking around there for around 1½ hour ... tot tot, trains are sold separate. Anyway the bridge is one amongst the longest bridges in northern Europe, not the longest but it is pretty long. Next time I will try to actually catch that part more. A large part of the replaced 13 km/8 miles of rail-road track they built a new bank approximately 5-6 meters/19ft high, higher than the old bank. (And I just noticed that Nokia have not updated this part of their map, in 20 years, while Google and OSM not having existed 20 years they of course have the updated map. Mind me what GPS map I would trust more.) I saw a pretty cool tree. Canopy tree, Poring Hot Spring by Geographic Ecotourist, on Flickr It's a Koompassia excelsa, which is the third tallest tree species in the world. I saw it in a national park near the tallest mountain on the SE Asian island of Borneo. It's considered "conservation dependent" because they're a popular timber tree that takes a very long time to grow. Moi by Geographic Ecotourist, on Flickr It was the same day I saw these: DSC_1015clean by Geographic Ecotourist, on Flickr Mt. Kinabalu by Geographic Ecotourist, on Flickr And I got to sleep in here. Sabah Tea Longhouse by Geographic Ecotourist, on Flickr That was one day out of nine I spent on the island, and sixty I spent travelling overseas. Go visit goddamn Borneo.

The Boston Public Garden has many, many trees. It was established in 1837 and I think it's one of the most beautiful places on Earth. I have a photo of me, very small, riding the swan boats with my grandmother. Taking the T into the City was a big treat when I was young. Now I have a photo of my daughter riding with her grandfather and I was finally able to show my kids the wonderful places I grew up. They've not been lucky enough to grow up where I did, but now they understand. poopkitty fucked around with this message at 11:13 on Feb 10, 2014 |
