Thor. God. Hero. Fighter. Avenger. Film Star. There's been a lot of talk about God of Thunder but no thread until now so read on below for all your needs. THE CURRENT THOR: GOD OF THUNDER Jason Aaron, Esad Ribic, Ron Garney, Dead White. The main Thor series on stands at the moment the book follows Thor, his companions and everything metal. Focusing on the God aspect rather than the Superhero aspect the book embraces the "goofy" aspects of the character and molds it into everything you've ever wanted to see painted on the side of a van. The first arc "God Butcher" is available in trade and follows Thor as he teams up with multiple versions of himself to stop a God serial killer bent on destroying the universe. Aaron has a knack for written "badass and violent" characters and is amply helped by a stellar art team. Some preview images below with as little spoilers as possible. Here's a preview video where Aaron pitches the book and issues are available at your local store or digitally. THE CANCELLED If you're looking for some more Asgardian action of a different flavour why not try out Journey Into Mystery? JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #646-#655. Kathryn Immonen, Valerio Schiti, Jordie Bellaire The above run for Journey into Mystery was a fun series doomed from the start. Following Sif as she tries to find her place in the world the book was a fun, colourful and violent trek through the Norse world. Overall it's a self contained series which hardly anybody read which was gorgeous to look at and a nice comparison to the ultra-metal of Thor. Available at your local funny book store and digitally. Some preview images below from the baddass thread: THE FUTURE LOKI: AGENT OF ASGARD Al Ewing, Lee Garbett Capitalizing on the Marvel film popularity next year will see Loki looking familiarly like his movie-counterpart and travelling the universe fighting "bad guys" but obviously for own means. It's just been announced so who knows how it will go but more Thor books can't be a bad thing. THE PAST There are hundreds of Thor comics. Feel like recommending or discussing some, well then post away.

Hakkesshu posted:Is it supposed to be a mystery? I thought Aaron said it was a new character. Aaron just said it's a character already from his run and you're not going to find out their identity for another few issues.

New Thor isn't a placeholder nor does her identity really matter. It's more the story being told and the way Aaron has been writing his run. Yes it's clearly Roz if you've been reading the book since the beginning (which really you should have been because it's a great book) but other than that her identity doesn't matter. What matters is that she's not Odinson and that pisses everybody else off. From solicits it's not going to be issue 8 until they reveal who she is to every other character in story. It'd be different if the book was solely focusing on how Roz is dealing with being Thor and not showing her face but it's not, it's dealing with how Asgard reacts to it. Odin is obviously going to do dumb poo poo trying to figure out who it is and will get more whiny and make things worse focusing on this. She's as much a character as present day Odinson was in God of Thunder, in fact she's very much like Young Odinson, brash and quick to punch people while being an introduction to Asgard from a human perspective.

It really can't be anybody other than Roz just because nobody else really seems to care about the Roxxon stuff. (I'd have no problem with it being Jane though)

Wade Wilson posted:I thought Jane had cancer and was dying or something. Or was that a "future story" issue or something. She was in this issue. But her having cancer doesn't mean she can't pick up the hammer and become Thor while holding it, she was also given free reign of the bifrost to go wherever she pleases (if she did pick the hammer up from the Moon).

Yes it makes sense to drop the book just prior to the identity reveal (that you already know), when the last number of issues have been full of character development and shown them adjusting to the monicker of Thor and how they're different to Odinson as well as building the book around other characters (dumb reaction) to there being a new Thor. Everything has been building on Roz taking over, how Odinson and Asgrad reacts and continuing the Roxxon and Maleketh introduced in God of Thunder. It's not as if the book has been doing nothing and it's just changed things for nothing.

Yeah start on God of Thunder. It's the "proper" catch up point for current Thor and is a good book in it's own right and I think you won't feel a drop in quality when female Thor comes around.
