Seriouspost:

We have used a standard of company shortform - username for our computers, like "ABC-JOHOL" where ABC is company and JOHOL is two first characters of first name and three first of last name "John Holmes". We've been playing with the idea of switching to using "john.holmes" as username, but then we can't have a matching computername (abc-john.holmes is both too long and contains a dot).

Any suggestions? We would like to have a logical connection between username and computername to make it easier to remote control computers.

Servernames are just boring "FUNCTION" names.. like "EXCHANGE" and "ORACLE".
