Hopefully there will be a writeup explaining some of how it's done like there is for https://www.linusakesson.net/scene/a-mind-is-born/index.php

You are allowed to call system APIs and firmware so I wonder if they base the geometry on some predictable blob of data somewhere or if it's all self contained in those 256 bytes.

16 bit? Back when we was kids we only got a single bit on Christmas, as a treat
And we had to share it!

Commodore Plus/4

I had to look at the Plus/4 was about - looks like a cut down "Business Oriented" C64 without hardware sprites but increased color depth. Looking at a few demos, they make a lot of use out of palette animation, playing to the hardware's strengths.

Always wild to have demos that have effects on hardware that have no business doing what they do.
Like this commodore PET demo providing "3d animations" by manipulating petscii - guess swapping out characters on a screen is very fast.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cznyKsOl3po

I guess that's the same thing happening here in this C64 demo - petscii animation simulating voxels. Commercial games of the time never come close to the sheer style these demos have

I keep forgetting how truly limited the apple II series was in the graphics department.

Ask me about my wealthy lifestyle and passive income! I love bragging about my wealth to my lessers! My opinions are more valid because I have more money than you! Stealing the fruits of the labor of the working class is okay, so long as you don't do it using crypto. More money = better than!

Everything is procedural. The code that makes up the program is actually instructions on how to create everything you see and hear, which requires a TON of planning.

Did a recap, installed a CF IDE adapter. Was meaning to put in a gotek, but found it ugly compared to the regular floppy so I'll rig up some external adapter for that instead.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ad_qRmlFafA&t=647s - here's an NES demo. If I was blindfolded I don't think I could tell the difference between C64 SID music and NES music 80% of the time.

That team certainly did their best to make it sound like a C64! Good show. One giveaway though: the NES sound chip doesn’t have a filtering component, so it can’t emulate the frequency filter sweeps that are common in SID music.

Tidy looking 1200. Are you planning on putting a PiStorm32 into it?

Raspberry Pis and FPGAs are the most boring thing you can put in a computre. Basically a fedora for your hardware.

Old processors are cool and good. Just emulate the whole machine if you’re gonna emulate the CPU

Nha, just a cf ide adapter and some fastram.

Considered internal gotek but it looked ugly so will 3dprint an enclosure and hook that up as a secondary floppy drive.

Did they ever make a Gotek that uses SD cards instead of USB storage? That would help a lot on the ugliness.

Dunno, this page has a pic that looks the same as it did in mine.

Looks loving awful so reverted back to using a floppy drive.

And I mean... being able to use actual floppies still is pretty neat, and I can always use an external gotek + internal hdd.
