Yeah I think on hard riddle difficulty the numbers written on the books are gone, and the hint near the door is a lot more of a riddle. then the password would be the actual numbers of the books in the order you put them on the shelf. I am sure someone will drop by with a much bigger post than this that goes into detail. (I liked the video that 'guy who went crazy' did for this puzzle, but alas, it is lost to time)

someone in the comments already pointed it out, but if you were on hard mode the falling ceiling falls down slightly farther so that it WILL kill you; unless you pull out your weapon and enter your fighting stance that lowers your head slightly enough to not get murdered.
