Reminds me of being at a business conference at Niagara Falls a few years back and my phone kept bouncing between US and Canadian carriers. I could walk to a window and my phone could see AT&T, and I'd be able to make a call without paying 79 cents a minute. If I was inside, it would see Rogers, and I'd get rogered if I tried to make a call.

Don't get the Nokia if you have a Nexus 4. It works great on the Nexus 5 and 7 though.

With the 5 and 7 I just slap it on there.

Hah, awesome. Ordered 2 white 32 Gigs on friday around 1PM, with a "leave the warehouse by Nov. 22nd" date. They were shipped earlier (They were dispatched at 1AM, thanks graveyard shift!), and will be here tomorrow, and I'm pretty excited.

I wonder if they're getting in to the same poo poo they did with N4 where people waited for months before re-ordering and getting them shipped the next day and cancelling the old order. Are there any other Qi docks like the vu? Or, better yet, actually cheap 3d-print services? I'd love to get something like https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:165608 printed for the DT-900, but gently caress if I'm going to pay 300-3000 bux for it from places like sculpteo, etc..

Is there a way to cache maps offline on the N5 with current G-maps? I haven't seen anything intuitive from using the app and haven't found anything after a quick search. As someone with a lot of rural family, cached maps are an asset, and I don't think there's any good reason for them to disable that in an upgrade. Must be missing something.

The white one is far less popular, so that's why it ships a lot faster. Mine showed up almost a week ahead of my friend who ordered his black one before me. With a case on it you'll never see the color, so I just got the white one.

Somewhat hidden in 2011 but easy to find on the Galaxy Nexus since its Play Store debut. I actually did check the FAQ page linked-to within the app and didn't see anything about keywords. Weird. edit: Haha, the current correct way is listed under iOS methods but not Android. I have to say that after a few days with the N5 I'm somewhat surprised by how basic stock Android is. I'm coming from older phones that ran HTC Sense and Cyanogenmod, and I just assumed most of the features in those roms were part of Android. Things like quiet hours, increasing volume alarms, opening the music player when you plug in headphones, multiple icons on the lockscreen and all the little launcher customizations are missing. Not a big deal though, and I've replaced most of the functionality with apps for now.

Has anyone found a decent rubber case for the N5? I emailed BodyGlove, the plan to release a Satin case for it in December. I'm not a fan of the hard shell cases so I'm probably going to wait for it to come out.

In particular, increasing volume alarms and multiple icons on the lockscreen used to be in 4.1 As caretakers, Google usually has to be cautious when it comes to potential patent infringements, since everyone in the mobile space has gotten aggressively litigious. One good lawsuit against Android itself that results in import bans in a large market could pretty much sink some OEMs at this point. Many questions that go "Why does Android do this in some dumb, roundabout way instead of this clearly logical one?" can be answered with "Because patents". filthychimp fucked around with this message at 04:39 on Nov 12, 2013 |
