RIP Lutri: 5/19/20-4/2/20
:blizz::gamefreak:
The letter arrived earlier that week, you’ve been accepted into the Sharn Watch Advanced Tactics team and are expected to report to Central Command that Friday for your swearing in and briefing. But late Thursday night, there’s a knock on your door and another sealed envelope, your presence is requested by the Lord Commander immediately.

The mood at the central office is tenser than usual, though most civilians wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, you can tell your fellow officers are concerned about something. Tones hush as you approach, and people are stone silent as you ascend towards the administrative floor.

The halfling secretary sits at her desk outside the Lord Commander's office fidgeting nervously, occasionally glancing across the room at the two dour looking officers flanking the door into the office proper, though she brightens up with a practiced smile when she sees you approach.

“Oh, uh, are you one of the officers he requested? I was told to expect five of you, right? I’m sure he’ll be right with you,” she lowers her voice, motioning with her head towards the two other people in the room, “Lady Cazal just arrived, she did not seem happy.”

Enna
Nodding at the secretary, Enna leans against the wall, fixing her gaze on the office doors for a moment, then lowering it. She'd expect this kind of cold reception from the Dura Watch. Up here in Central? Something's not right, and at the center of it are the newcomers.

Scanning the room, she takes stock of her new co-workers. The warforged had no immediately visible weapons save for a staff, but his arm had the tell-tale signs of wear from retracting into an armbow many times. She liked warforged, they were generally an unsubtle, result-oriented people. The strange man with flaming hair was probably a genasi, one of the elemental race, and his demeanor spoke of someone who was also concerned with retribution rather than justice. That might be trouble later on, she thought, but chances are I'm soon going to be glad there's a big man with a sword on the good guys' side.

She tried not to think about the kalashtar. She was uneasy working with a psionic, and useful as probing a suspect's mind might be in an interrogation, she couldn't discount the chance he was doing the same to his allies right now. Calling images of sunshine and rainbows to the front of her mind, she looked around the office. Surely the dragonborn couldn't be the fifth man on the Watch Advanced Tactics team?

Anodyne

Ah yes, hurry up and wait. Anodyne really was making the most of his battlefield experience in the Watch. Eventually the yelling would filter down to him, or something would explode, and then it would be time for action.

Settling into the perfect stillness of a Warforged with nothing better to do at the moment, Anodyne gives his fellow hurried waiters a brief, cursory examination. They seem competent enough. No doubt they'd all be whining like babies before too long, though. Back in the day, it seemed like any five-minute lull in combat would set his entire unit into a chorus of "MY PARENTS ARE DEEEAAAAAD" "I MISS MY GIIIRRRRLLLL" and so on. "Angst," they called it. As far as Anodyne understood it, it was the organics' curse: the burden of not knowing what you were made for.

They really are precious.

I'll take a Jolt Flask for my free theme item this time.

Walking briskly, Ghorma heads to the halfling's desk and leans up against it, dropping his axe with a loud thud on the ground beside him. Leaning in close to the secretary with a grin he whispers back to her "I doubt Cazel'd be Cazel if she weren't angry about something." Stepping away from the desk Ghorma kicks the axe back into his hand and walks towards the assembled officers to get a closer look, finding what he expected. Bunch of do-gooders of all sorts, though a warforged can be fun; never know whats going through their metal heads.

"SO! My fellow officers of the watch's newest squad I bet, eh? Ready to take down whatever scum the Lord Commander has summoned us for? Some poor sod that came up from the cogs and nicked a golds worth of goods from central or other such fiend I am sure."

Jerac

Jerac never felt comfortable with bureaucratic situations. Give him a criminal to track down or an infernal arcane artifact to stop from hurting everyone in a village and he was at ease. But throw him into a room with people sitting around with nothing to do but stare at each other and listen to the sound of their own breathing, and Jerac began to panic.

He had no doubts of his soon-to-be colleagues, largely because becoming a member of the Advanced Tactics Team meant you had to be at least somewhat competent. No, Jerac was instead worried about the red tape they'd be facing in the field. That was always the problem, trying to really help people and then getting stopped because the higher ups had more important things to do.

Instead Jerac was hoping that the rest of his soon-to-be team wasn't just a bunch of rear end-kissers hoping to advance their careers. Jerac didn't care about that, he just wanted to make an impact and really help some people.

Malakhad

"Thank you. We'll wait here." Malakhad sat in one of the antechamber's chairs, glad for the chance to rest after the long walk. He was used to waiting while commanding officers conducted their business. The atmosphere at Central Command was troubling, though. It didn't bode well for the newly formed team if storm clouds were already visible before they'd even received their first assignment.

The customary delay did give him the opportunity to look over his new teammates, though. Most of them seemed anxious to get underway, the genasi in particular. The warforged was hard to get a read on, but that was always the case with his kind. It didn't take a psychic to recognize the elephant in the room, though. It was the same way every time new Watch members were assigned to work with him.

"Don't worry. I don't read the minds of friends and co-workers." The kalashtar smiled warmly.

:blizz::gamefreak:
After a minute or so, the doors burst open revealing a very angry looking elf woman who storms out of the room with a huff, pausing only briefly to give Ghorma a wicked glare. The guards catch their respective doors like this is a trick they've pulled a couple dozen times before and follow their boss out of the building. The secretary hazards a chuckle once she's sure Cazal is out of earshot and motions towards the door.

"The Lord Commander will see you now."

Iyan Ir'Talan stands staring out the window, his silent vigil interrupted only by a few drinks from whatever alcoholic beverage he's got. After the doors close he turns towards you.

"Well, you aren't exactly what I was expecting," he takes one last long swig from his glass before putting it on the desk and taking a seat, "I'm not sure if you're aware, but there's been a series of... bombings... in Lower Dura and the Cogs. Nothing really big was hit, mostly commercial wards after hours. Halamar just thought it was the gangs getting more creative with their protection rackets so he didn't put any weight behind the investigations. About four hours ago there was an explosion in Firelight, and some Noble's son who was... partaking of the local culture... got himself killed. So now a Scion died on Cazal's watch, Halamar's got egg on his face, and I'm about to get my rear end chewed out in front of the city council. You would have been brought in eventually, consider this a courtesy head start."

He pulls out a bottle from under his desk and gives himself a refill.

"If you have any questions, now's the time."

Firelight is a rather notorious red light district in lower Menthis Plateau. It's proximal to many theaters and the Morgrave University giving it a bit of legitimacy, and is considered safer than any of the other Redlight districts since it's not in Dura.

Malakhad

Before Malakhad could say anything, the doors burst open and Cazal came storming out. He turned to Enna and made a quick telepathic reply as the group was ushered into the Lord Commander's office: <Nothing is truly useless, even if its purpose isn't immediately obvious. You have to dig awfully deep to find the purpose of some men, though.>

Inside the office, Malakhad waited until Ir'Talan had finished speaking. "Have any of the gangs in the area been known to use bombs in the recent past? If not, are there any indications that someone new is trying to muscle their way in?

And now he had officers with their heads stuck up their asses. It really was the old days all over again.

Boromar would hopefully know better than to bring the Menthis Watch into Dura's private little war, and Tarkanan would have made a statement by now. If it's someone new they're keeping quiet."

He turns to look at the Warforged, looking him up and down a few times before speaking.

"Your positions in SWAT give you the authority to arrest anyone in any district. That doesn't mean that you can just go arrest everyone in Sharn and let Aureon sort it out. Do your investigation, figure out who's doing this, and bring them in. Alive if possible, the council wants their pound of flesh and I'd rather it not come out of the watch's hide."

The Firelight district is uncharacteristically quiet this evening. No lanterns burn in the windows, no ladies beckon to the passers by, only the faint roar of activity elsewhere sounds through the maze of towers. Hardly anyone actually lives here, and the days activities have driven away most of the usual clientele, so this is hardly surprising. What is surprising however is the absence of the one thing you are expecting to see, the officers that are supposed to be standing guard.

When you're about to make the last corner towards the crime scene you hear a heavy wooden thud followed by barely audible harsh whispering.

Malakhad

Knowing that criminals caught in the act weren't likely to stand down just because they were asked nicely, Malakhad planted a sense of despair in their minds to make them give up before the fight had even begun.

Move action: Walk to P3
Standard action: Dishearten vs Will centered on I13: Dishearten vs Will: 4#1d20+15 28 25 22 20 1d6+14 19 damage. Three of the grunts are hit, and take -2 to attack UEoNT and an additional -2 to their next attack (if they aren't minions). Assume any damage Malakhad does is non-lethal unless specified otherwise.

If an area attack is directed multiple party members and includes Malakhad, he uses Insightful Warning as an interrupt if it would make a difference.

A quintessential being known throughout the Realm as the 'Dungeon Master'. :rolldice:

"As you wish, your actions have been noted as being hostile towards the Sharn Watch and you will be dealt with accordingly..." Jerac spouted. His primary concern was the 'Boss' and his lieutenant. Seeing Malakhad deal with the other thugs so judicially, they weren't an immediate concern of his.

Life Rules
Ghorma

As the Jerac makes for the group in the building Ghorma charges down the alley towards the lookout. If things go poorly he'll be the first to break and run; no chance of that happening with a blade buried in him. Storming the man Ghorma lets loose a bellowing roar as the axe comes down. Following the axes movement, he moves close to the elf and places a leg behind his. Tripping the lookout to the ground Ghorma digs the axe a little deeper before stepping back, a grin already on his face.

Standard: Charge to O10 and attack the lookout with Howling Strike vs AC: 1d20+18 37 1d12+2d6+9 19 2d6 7 for 26 total damage.
No Action: Using Takedown Strike to do 6 extra damage for 32 total, and to knock the lookout prone.

Walker, you didn't say where you were moving so I put you someplace with a line of attack to the lookout.
Three of the grunts working the shop over fall over senseless, the other two and their captain are looking rather concerned. The lookout, on the other hand, isn't looking too hot, what with two axe wounds and a couple of bolts sticking out of his side.

: "You're out of your league, matchstick."
Dharvek smirks at the Genasi and spins backwards, knocking two arrows as he does so and loosing them at Jerac.
Twin Arrows vs AC: 1d20+19 34 2d6+4 11 1d20+19 27 2d6+4 15
11 total damage.
: "What the hell man? Seriously? I'm just filling a paycheck!"

He really does look rather pathetic for a lookout, you're probably better off directing your wrath elsewhere, after all you have an image to maintain.

Disarming Smile vs Will: 1d20+13 27 2d6-2 5
Aegis of Shielding Triggered damage reduction already factored into the roll. Ghorma can't attack the Lookout (save ends, he gets an additional save if the lookout attacks him).

I guess it wouldn't affect my turn much. Sorry to doublepost, but I thought an edit might get overlooked.

Anodyne

"I'd worry more about the checks that your mouth is writing and your body can't cash, meatbag." Anodyne strides out into the plaza behind Ghorma, dispelling the charm with a quick rap on the dragonborn's shoulder. The end of his staff leaves an arc of glowing smoke in the air as he hauls back and cracks the smarmy lookout upside the head, releasing a burst of energy that leaves a faint halo on Ghorma's arms and weapon.
