Thanks guys. Is it difficult to overcome the language barrier? If I love it is there a relatively easy method for keeping up with it (i.e., not just dailymotion links)?

Hang around in the New Japan threads on here. The language barrier isn't really an issue, because they don't have "storylines" in the way that western wrestling does. Most of the time is "These two guys don't like each other so they're gonna have a match" or "This guy cheated, ergo he is a heel (unless he's Toru Yano but he's a fringe case)".

Bullet Club are the top heel faction right now. They're just rear end in a top hat westerners who cheat and use a lot of interference spots.

Any suggestions on classic matches, or really good recent ones? One thing I'd recommend is this AJW Classics episode that someone uploaded dedicated to the WWWA Tag Team Championship. It's focused mainly on the '80s which means a bunch of Crush Gals matches which is undeniably a good thing. If you wind up liking Natsuki*Taiyo's stuff I'd recommend checking out Momoe Nakanishi since she was Natuski's idol and Natsuki took a lot of inspiration from her. Most anything involving Momoe teaming with Nanae Takahashi against LCO is great (LCO in the late-'90s/early 2000s was fantastic). Her stuff with Kumiko Maekawa is generally very good too since the two had legit heat with one another but it wound up working well into their matches.

Is there a chronological list of all 90s AJPW matches (or at least all the significant ones) involving the four pillars and/or elite gaijin? I could use Cagematch but then I'd have to filter through what was televised and what wasn't. I've watched a bunch of that stuff but people always say it's better if you work through it in order so I'd like to do that.

Speedboat Jones posted:Listening to how much Paul Heyman talked up Jimmy Hart in that Comic Con panel makes me wanna find and watch some of the good stuff Jimmy was part of. Any network recommendations like PPVs or anything like that? Jimmy Hart's best stuff was in Memphis. I wasn't crazy about him in the WWF, but his stuff in WCW with Lex Luger from Fall of 95 through spring of 96 is hilarious. Luger is a heel managed by Hart, but he's still Sting's friend. Sting doesn't like Hart and wants Luger to have nothing to do with him. Lex hems and haws, then promises not to be involved with him even though he clearly is. It's all leading up to a big turn, but then the nWo happens and Luger is a face. I don't even know what segments to recommend on PPV. I know there's something great on Uncensored 96. Earlier this year a guy had every single Andy Kaufman in Memphis segment uploaded on youtube. It's not Hart's best work but he does some good stuff. Hart is so sleazy in Memphis he makes whatever people think Dean Ambrose is look respectable. MassRafTer fucked around with this message at 06:37 on Aug 23, 2014 |

HUSTLE is weird because there are plenty of matches that should be downright awful, but end up being watchable at least due to the effort of everyone involved in the entire show from the floor up. Then there's a lot of matches that are just downright awful. Usually if it has an MMA fighter, it's "okay, not great, but fun as a part of the card!" and if it has a veteran pro wrestler, it's "gently caress. dying here." edit: actually, I might grab some DVDs. What's a good year to start on DDT? I didn't know it's been around so long! LvK fucked around with this message at 17:06 on Aug 24, 2014 |
