I've played a lot of F2P MMOs, well, ones that have made the transition from subscription to F2P and I think Rift has the best system out there. Guild Wars 2 is great but it has a different feel. I can't really explain it.

If you're not into that, I'd recommend a private server for Ultima Online / SWG or maybe even just wait for ArcheAge and Everquest Next (Landmark is going into alpha next month).
