Only reading a 'night' or less on average. After about three years we're nearly at the end of the final volume. Specifically, we're on the fourth book of four "The Thousand Nights and One Night" rendered into English from the literal and complete French translation of Dr J.C. Mardrus by Powys Mathers. Is this not the 'proper' thousand and one nights? Anyway, it was - I believe - somewhere in the third volume which contained the story of Ala Al-Din (sound familiar?) which was a story largely similar to what many may recognize as the story of Aladin as told by Disney. There is also a tale in the 4th volume called The Anklet which bears striking similarity to Disney's Cinderella. Also, for those of you who ever played Magic:The Gathering - As you would imagine - there are many stories which are reflected in the cards you may be familiar with from M:tg's first expansion: Ali Baba, Old Man of the Sea, Sinbad, Diamond Valley, Magnetic Mountain, and of course Shahrazad among countless others. It has been great to read all these tales close to their original telling. The differences from the tales that we all know well are both intriguing and some times hillarious. As the OP has already shown, sexism, racism and general disinterest in abuse, murder and adulterousness is rampant throughout the entire 1,001 Nights. I look forward to further installments of this satirical and whimsical retelling of the the stories which I've been reading though for so many years. Thank you.

Klyith... hehe, good to see that we're both looking at Wiki for further information. It seems that it might take some doing to find a more pure copy/translation of the original set of tales. In fact, at a glance, beyond the modern collections, it's possible that only fragments remain.
