Little Mac brought us the idea: Taking the May 1996 mod to TEW 2013 and pitting two goon factions against each other, one as WWF, and the other as WCW. The mod begins with the signing of Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to WCW.

We have WCW's booking team:
CaptainYesterday
AfterFather
Sanguina
Skunkrocker
KungFu Grip
Der-Wreck
RZApublican
Renaissance Spam
Evil Badman
Great White Hope
Your Personal Muse
Q7Kid
Golden Bee

And WWF's booking team:
I Before E
Abrasive Obelisk
Xerzes
Happyman
Do not even ask
Senerio
Kliff
NutritiousSnack
IcePhoenix
xNarUtoRKOrton420x
Defiance Industries
Antitonic
NowOnSA
Prozach
triplexpac
Junpei Hyde
GenericMartini

You may join a booking team at any time, but choose wisely - once you've picked a team, you cannot switch teams for any reason. Booking is mostly done via IRC chat, with some notes passed back and forth via Google Docs. For folks who played the previous version, we have new IRC channels and documents, but the old doc will be provided for you as a resource.

New folks and old folks alike, I need your e-mail address to give you your IRC channel and give you permission for the Google Doc. I have PMs, or you can e-mail me at SAJoeRules on gmail.

I've never run a TEW game of this nature before, so bear with me. I hope to run shows every other day (once we get started), and hopefully I can even give you a specific time, for booking deadlines and any in-game incidents that occur.

WHAT'S HAPPENED SO FAR?

I Before E posted:

PREVIOUSLY IN THE WORLD WRESTLING FEDERATION

The In Your House: Heartbroken PPV thrilled, spilled, and chilled!

-The Heartbreak Kid Shawn Michaels defended his title successfully against the malevolent Mankind.
-We saw The Man They Call Vader steamroll the Duke Of Destrucity himself in a hard-fought bout
-Owen Hart forced Chris Jericho's mentor, The Hot Rod, Roddy Piper, to tap out
-The Throwback himself, Bob Backlund, laid Ahmed Johnson low. After Ahmed Johnson pinned him in their match, Backlund's new protege, Charlie Haas, assaulted Ahmed, leaving him on the canvas.
-The Amazin' Asian, Yokozuna prevailed over the bilious bigotry of Jerry Lawler
-The Lionheart, Chris Jericho, on his mentor Roddy Piper's advice, issued an open challenge, answered by Tatanka, who was made to submit to the Walls of Jericho.
-The Smokin' Gunns got an upset victory over the Bodydonnas for the tag belts after Skip was overcome by jealousy when he noticed Sunny was cheering Zip more.
-After interference from The Undertaker, Phatu won Goldust's Intercontinental belt.
-The Two Man Power Trip of HHH and Stone Cold gave the Kid Rockers a thorough drubbing in a tag team contest.
-Rocky Maivia debuted strong, pinning Jesse James with ease.

As we move into the King Of The Ring tournament, many questions are posed:
-Who will HBK's next challenger be?
-Can Chris Jericho get revenge on Owen Hart, the man who humiliated his mentor?
-Will Goldust prevail in Act 3, or simply fade to black?
-Who will be the next King Of The Ring? Will it be the international superstar, Chris Jericho? The Japanese Man Of Mystery, Yoshihiro Tajiri? Stone Cold Steve Austin? The one-time King Of The Ring himself, Owen Hart? The Boisterous Buh-Buh Ray Dudley? North Carolina's own Jeff Hardy? Tune in to find out!
-Will losing the tag straps prove to be too much weight for the Warriors Of Wellness, the Bodydonnas?
-Can Ahmed Johnson regain his dignity after being so fiendishly ambushed?
-What is Ted DiBiase's Million Dollar Secret?
-Who can stop The Man They Call Vader?
-Will Bret Hart ever return to the WWF after losing the title at Wrestlemania 12?

CaptainYesterday posted:

Previously, at Slamboree...
-Ron Simmons made his WCW return
-The Dungeon of Doom unveiled their newest client, the Great Muta
-Alex Wright stunned the WCW fans by joining the Nobility and becoming Baron Alexander Wright
-Ric Flair was kicked out of the Four Horsemen by Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit
-Sting and Lex Luger lost their WCW Tag Team titles to the Road Warriors in a match that also featured Harlem Heat
-Hulk Hogan attacked his best friend "Macho Man" Randy Savage during Savage's match with the Giant.

Questions going forward...
-Why did Hulk Hogan turn his back on Savage?
-What is the future of the Four Horsemen?
-Can the damaged relationship between Luger and Flair be repaired?
-Now that the Giant has taken care of Randy Savage, what's next for the WCW World Heavyweight Champion?
-Who else will join King Steven Regal's Nobility?
-And, oh yeah...what are Kevin Nash and Scott Hall doing?

It is Monday, Week 4 of May. Both shows are coming off strong PPVs, and seemed to use the PPV to transition to bigger and better storylines.

Also, WCW signed pretty much everybody and then only fired Elizabeth. They pissed off ECW, who agreed to a working arrangement with WWF as a result.

Just a quick update:

- A few folks still need to e-mail or PM me - if you PM, I still need an email address to give you access to the Google doc.

- Other than that, I am just waiting for Little Mac to send the save file to me. I am tentatively scheduling running Nitro/Raw on Wednesday afternoon.

OK, got TEW updated and got the save file working. Both shows will be run by tomorrow.

To both shows:

- I am intentionally staying out of the Google Docs when not running shows, so that I don't see early ideas or anything else that might confuse me. For this reason, please try to make things as easy as possible for me. I am using your roster pages to set alignments and pushes to start, and will use your "this week's show" tab for those, but please create a tab in your Google Doc for the specific things I need to do: set a person to turn, change a gimmick, start/end a feud, etc. Both docs have so many tabs that it would be hard for me to keep up with all the details otherwise.

LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, IT IS MONDAY NIGHT (kinda)

quote:

Hello from the Hilton Coliseum - it's a sellout here for Monday Nitro!

- Dark match: Barry Windham and Christian Cage beat State Patrol. Windham looked good, and that was about it. Good guys went over.

- Dark match: The recently poached-from-ECW Raven and Saturn tagged against Bobby Walker and Joey Maggs. From main eventing to wrestling "Hardwork" in a dark match? I hope these guys are getting PAID. Raven goes over in a bad match.

- "Mean" Gene Okerlund is on the stage: "The board of directors were content to allow you, the wrestlers, to police yourselves without direct interference, but recently a number of people have been taking advantage of that. Therefore, they have decided to entrust someone to re-establish order. Someone honest, someone respectable, someone...perfect. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, the new WCW Commissioner, Curt Hennig!"

Hennig comes to the ring and says his only intent in ascending to power in WCW is to stop the inmates from running the asylum. No longer will Outsiders be permitted to incite random chaos, or guys like Randy Savage and Ric Flair have to suffer brutal beatdowns. Hennig says he's here to protect and manage the roster...perfectly.

His first official order of business, however, is to put over the efforts of Rey Misterio Jr. and Psicosis in last night's Slamboree match, saying the cruiserweight style is awe-inspiring and the future of wrestling. Hennig announces a tournament to crown the inaugural WCW Cruiserweight Champion...but midsentence the power goes out in the arena.

Commentators attempt to figure out what's going on, but all anyone can hear now is the sound of wings flapping. Power comes back on, no one is there. Weird.

Hennig, still in the ring with the microphone, is flipping around looking at the crowd, puzzled. Finally shrugging, he says the opening bout in the cruiserweight tournament is right now!"

The crowd loved Hennig - but I don't think they particularly gave a crap about the cruiserweights.

- Jushin Thunder Liger goes over Ultimo Dragon. Solid match, but the crowd wasn't really into it.

- Backstage, we catch Rey Misterio Jr. watching the match's conclusion on a monitor, sampling a ham and cheese wrap, when the Outsiders attack. Hall and Nash work Misterio over until Nash Jackknifes him into a trashcan. Their work done, the pair begin talking sarcastically about Curt Hennig referring to these silly "flippydoos," as the future of wrestling. Nash may have mentioned they're fun to watch on his blog, but losers like this guy don't merit a world championship. "As if a midget like Rey Misterio Jr. would ever win a REAL belt up north like I did. People don't want to see scawny midgets with gold unless they're leprechauns. I tell ya, if I had the book, I'd at least be taking that mask off." Hall follows up with a hilarious impersonation of "Mr. Nerdfect," and disparaging but vague remarks about the last time he was in the ring and how much better suited he is to a desk job. "Thank god we don't work here, eh man?" "For sure. Let's get out of here and grab a sandwhich." The camera holds on the unconscious Misterio as they leave.

- Hulk Hogan comes out to the ring, and begins by thanking the Hulkamaniacs. Last night they saw him beat down Jimmy Hart, and cheered even more loudly than they were cheering for the match in the ring, and it showed him the truth. Hulk Hogan is bigger than anything. Just by standing next to the ring, Hulk Hogan was bigger and better than the two men fighting to be Heavyweight Champion of the World. Which means that Hulk Hogan is bigger than the title belt. He's bigger than the 7 foot monster that's holding it. And most importantly, he's bigger than that spotlight stealing, fast-talking, smoked meat loving maniac Randy Savage. From this moment, wrestling isn't about speeches, or grudges, or tag teams, or TV networks, and it's certainly not about titles. The only thing that matters in this world is Hulkamania. And there's nobody on earth that can stop it!

As Hulk finishes his speech, Paul Orndorff comes out to the ring. Orndorff says he's shocked by Hulk's actions. Hulk had always done whatever he had wanted no matter what, but until tonight it had always been the right thing. He asks if Hulk is really willing to throw away the friendship of men who had stood by him like Randy Savage. To spit on the legacy of the WCW title belts and the great men who've held them over the years, including himself. He asks if he's honestly going to throw all the hopes and dreams of the Hulkamaniacs away over nothing but pride. Hogan: ""Throwing away the dreams of Hulkamaniacs? The dreams of the Hulkamaniacs are to eat, drink, and breathe The Hulkster, brother!" Hogan asks what right Orndorff has to talk about those worthless belts. How many times has he been a world champ? "Zero!" Hogan begins openly mocking Orndorff, saying it's pretty rich how Orndorff is going to bat for Randy Savage when Orndorff, like Savage, spent the 80s alternating between leeching off his spotlight and stabbing him in the back. Finally, he concludes that the small man isn't worth his time, and tells him to leave him and the Hulkamaniacs to their moment of glory.

Orndorff: "Hulkster, I had a feeling that words weren't going to bring you back down to earth. So I'm gonna have to do it the hard way. Before I came out here, I had words with our new commisioner, Curt Hennig. At my request, he's made tonight's main event a one-on-one match between you, and ME! And I'm gonna wake you up from your little fantasy."

Hulk: "The only fantasy is that any match with Hulk Hogan is one on one! You fight me, you're fighting all of Hulkamania brother! And if you want it so badly, then tonight HULKAMANIA IS GONNA RUN WILD ON YOU!"

The crowd was really into Hogan's new bit. Orndorff maybe wasn't the best choice - there wasn't much pop for him.

- The Giant comes out with Jimmy Hart and Kevin Sullivan. Sullivan congratulates the Giant on beating Randy Savage and for helping end Hulkamania's threat to the Dungeon. He tells the Giant that he has one more task to do: surrender the title to Sullivan. The Giant says he's worked too hard to give up on the World title, but Sullivan berates him, saying he's given Giant guidance and mentored him. Sullivan says the Dungeon of Doom has made Giant what he is, so now it's time to give back to the Dungeon. Giant still seems conflicted, but Jimmy Hart notes he better decide quickly--he and Sullivan had a quick chat with Commissioner Hennig, and the title match is tonight! Sullivan and Hart begin to exit, but Sullivan turns back to tell Giant he is confident Giant will make the right choice.

- The Great Muta defeats Scott Steiner with a moonsault press. The commentators note that neither Jimmy Hart nor any other Dungeon member remained at ringside for this match; they speculate that even the Dungeon of Doom fears The Great Muta.

Rick Steiner tries to attend to Scott after the match...only to find himself on the receiving end of a faceful of red mist.

- Arn Anderson and Chris Benoit defeat The Rock & Roll Express. Pretty solid match.

Arn Anderson, flanked by Benoit, grabs a mic to explain his actions in betraying Ric Flair last night at Slamboree. He says that Flair--like the opponents he and Benoit just rolled over, the RnR Express--was once great, on top of the wrestling world, but the business has passed them by. He asserts Flair had lost his focus, that he cared more about women and boozing and spending money than winning championships. He says that friendship will never get in the way of his getting to the top of this business, and that's why he had to stick the knife in Flair's back. He notes, however, that if anyone thinks the Four Horsemen are dead, he corrects them; Flair, he says, is not synonymous with the Horsemen legacy. He says he will carry on as leader of a New Horsemen, and for his loyalty he's passing on his own title of Enforcer to Benoit. He promises that with him in control, the Four Horsemen will ride again. To emphasize the point, Benoit holds up four fingers.

- King Steven Regal and Baron Alexander Wright defeat Dusty Rhodes and The Booty Man when Regal beats Booty.

The other Blue Bloods, Taylor and Eaton, join Wright and Regal in the ring to corner Dusty Rhodes for a beatdown...but Disco Inferno, armed with a chair, makes the save! He runs off the Nobility, who look smug and triumphant even as they tuck tail. They flash the "V for Victory."

- The Giant vs. Kevin Sullivan for the WCW Title was a total non-match. Sullivan asked Giant to lay down, Giant played to the crowd a bit, Sullivan slaps the Giant, and it's chokeslam and over. Decent pop for Giant.

- The Road Warriors defeat Lex Luger & Sting in a Tag Team Title match. Hawk gets the pin in one of the best matches of the night. After the Road Warriors celebrate the win, Sting goes to the timekeeper's table and grabs Lex's TV title. He walks over to Lex and pushes the title into his chest and quickly walks away.

- MAIN EVENT: Hulk Hogan defeats Paul Orndorff. Duh. Good pop, not so good match. The show ended with Randy Savage coming from the seats to chase Hogan out of the ring. When Hogan was safely out of arm's reach, he turned and stared Savage down.

MONDAY NIGHT RAW from Jacksonville Memorial Coliseum

- Dark match: Ted DiBiase brings out Taz and Rhino (where do they get these names  ) and they beat Aldo Montoya and Avatar. Lame.

- Dark match: Rocky Maivia over Skip.

- RAW opens with a recap of stills from the HBK/Mankind match from In Your House. From there, Shawn Michaels comes to the ring with his title belt and a microphone. However, before he can say too much, Camp Cornette comes out. Cornette feigns congratulations, and then informs the champ that the British Bulldog will be challenging for the title at King of the Ring. Shawn Michaels says he doesn't care which of Cornette's chumps he faces, and Owen takes issue with the remark, setting a non-title match for tonight.

- Zip vs. Bob Holly, Holly quickly gets the upper hand and hits Zip hard until Sunny comes out for support. Zip fights his way back into the match-up and manages to get the pin after a top rope splash. Sunny raises Zip's hand after the match.

- Goldust backstage promo on The Undertaker, He says Undertaker shouldn't have done what he did at In Your House, because now a demon has awakened inside him. "At King Of The Ring, Undertaker, you will feel my great vengeance, and my furious anger... as I go medieval on your rear end. It's like the old saying, eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth... gold for gold."

This promo was loving creepy. It pretty much ruled.

- Phatu brings his newly won Intercontinental title to the ring and offers an open challenge to defend it. Justin Hawk Bradshaw quickly comes out, but gets defeated.

- Backstage interview with the Bodydonnas, Skip is frustrated with Zip about losing the belts, but Zip points out that if Skip hadn't tagged himself in they'd still be tag champs. Skip tells Zip that he brought him in this company to help them bond as brothers and not to take his girlfriend Sunny. Zip confused about the situation says that Skip is acting crazy and Sunny agrees with Zip. Skip demands to know why Sunny came out to see Zip's match. Sunny states because "I manage the both of you not just you, Skip!". Skip Irate at the response storms off but also taking Sunny, unwillingly along with him.

- Charlie Haas vs. Barry Horowitz, Haas wins by submission after arm dragging Horowitz to the mat and applying the crossface chickenwing.

The crowd hated this. It was short, but it was boring and it really hurt the mood of the arena.

- After the match Ahmed demands he get retribution for Haas attacking him at IYH, before Haas could say anything Backlund pops out and accepts the challenge and even going as far as to make it a Collegiate Rules match, saying Haas is a Grade A amateur wrestler that Ahmed would have no chance in heck of beating a 25 time NCAA champion. Haas confused by the ordeal takes mic and says that he accepts on his own behalf.

- Undertaker (with Paul Bearer) vs. Tatanka, Tatanka keeps a fast pace to try and overwhelm the Undertaker. Undertaker gets the upper hand on Tatanka in the end, but before he can hit the tombstone piledriver Goldust's bell hits and the lights go out. When they come back on, Tatanka is covering Undertaker. The ref looks somewhat unsure but counts the fall.

Goldust appears and taunts The Undertaker by kneeling over him like Undertaker did to him at IYH. He then stares down Paul Bearer and moves in on him, smiling. Bearer hauls rear end out of the ring area, keeping Goldust from the urn.

- Main Event: Shawn Michaels vs. Owen Hart. Jim Cornette and Bulldog at ringside. Owen dominates at first but can't seem to finish the smaller man off, being outspeeded at several occasions. He grows visibly more frustrated as the match goes on, so Cornette calls Owen over from the corner. He tries to direct Owen but they end up arguing. While they're distracted, HBK gets back up and nails Cornette in the head with a Superkick! Owen reacts quickly and tries to grab Michaels but gets countered into a backslide pin.

A very solid main event. Afterwards, Cornette tells his men to attack, and they end up beating down the Heartbreak Kid as the show closes.

- After the cameras stopped, The Ultimate Warrior took on Tajiri. Warrior looked good, but I think most people left after his entrance.

I've got to run for the time being, but I'll have the Observer notes out by tomorrow. WWF had the better critical reaction this week, but who won the ratings? Was it Hogan-Orndorff in the Year Nineteen Hundred And Ninety Six or was it Tatanka Goes Over The Undertaker?

The Observer, Tuesday Week 4 May 1996

- Overnight TV Ratings show WWF's Monday Night RAW to be the winner over WCW's Monday Nitro this week, with a 2.72 to a 2.46. Interesting to note is that RAW increased their rating the night after a PPV, whereas Nitro's rating decreased. Is this more telling of Sunday than it is of Monday? We'll find out next week.

- Critical ratings also show RAW to be the better show, rating with a B-. Nitro's rating came in at a C-, in part due to some backstage issues with the product. I expect WCW to get things back into shape sooner than later.

- Both announce teams have been praised for their work recently. While the teams can only get better as their experience develops, both companies have announcers who elevate the in-ring workers.

I was going to do a few more stories here, but two things that I want to put out ASAP:

a) Writing isn't my strong suit. You guys can pretty much tell that I just copied/pasted your segment descriptions for the show run-down, adding a few comments here and there. That will pretty much be my plan on a weekly basis, so be aware.

b) As I ran the shows, I noticed a few issues with rosters here and there - alignments, pushes, folks set to turn, etc. I'm taking some time right now to get these taken care of, but if there were any errors that showed up in Monday's shows, please forgive me. With that said, this is exactly why I need a tab in your docs that says "Hey JR, do these things". After fixing any errors as per your Roster tabs, the ONLY tabs I will read from your docs are the "JR Do These Things" tab and the "This Week's Show" tab. Any other tabs are for the writers' benefit & organization only.

As soon as I've made sure all roster issues are taken care of, I will run Saturday Night/Superstars. Get those ready to air ASAP, as I will probably start booking them tonight.

edit: I think the easiest thing for me to miss will be setting a person to turn. This isn't having someone actually switch alignments, just starting to hint at it down the road. If you have folks who should be set to turn heel/face, make sure this is listed either in your "HEY JR" tab or "Roster" tab, and make sure your shows tell me when to actually switch their alignment.

- Video Package: Four Horsemen. Recap of the lead-up to Flair's betrayal at Slamboree, as well as Anderson and Benoit's pronouncement of a "New Horsemen" the following night.

- Dusty Rhodes interviews Disco Inferno about his intervention in the Nobility beatdown on Nitro. Disco says he knew that, deep down, Alex Wright was a scumbag all along, and that was why he preemptively took it to him with a chair first in their dance contests. Dusty clearly finds this claim dubious, but tells Disco he's impressed with that Disco had the guts to stand up to King Steven Regal and his thugs. He tells Disco to give the Nobility hell in his tag match next.

- The Blue Bloods (King Steven Regal and Squire David Taylor) defeat Disco Inferno and The Booty Man when Baron Alexander Wright attacks Booty behind the ref's back.

- Regal, Taylor, and Wright look to continue the beatdown post-match, but Dusty Rhodes is out to run them off...armed with a Texas bullrope in hand! Taylor and Wright look alarmed as Rhodes clangs the cowbell threateningly, but Regal simply looks bemused, flashing the "V for victory."

- Konnan defeats Bunkhouse Buck in a US Title match. This match stunk.

- Konnan cuts a promo, saying after his win at Slamboree over two opponents, he feels like a true hero for both Mexicans and Americans alike. That being said, after what happened to him after the match ended, he's realizes he needs all the practice he can get handling surprises if he wants to act like a hero. So he's taking on all challengers for his US title; Ron Simmons and Teddy Long, watching on a monitor backstage, appear very interested in this development as Simmons warms up for his match.

- Ron Simmons (with Teddy Long) defeats Ricky Morton.

- Teddy Long grabs a microphone, talks up Ron Simmons as a former, and the first-ever black, world heavyweight champion, and says that if Konnan is taking on all comers, Simmons is more than happy to extend a challenge.

- Video Package: Hulk Hogan descends into egomania, culminating in his turning on Randy Savage.

- Lex Luger defends his TV title against Dean Malenko. Good match and a good crowd here.

- Sting comes out to face Luger, flat-out telling him that he believes Luger's divided attentions due to the TV Title are what caused them to lose the Tag Team Titles. Sting doesn't think their partnership--or their friendship--can ever be a priority for Lex while he holds the TV Title...so maybe Sting needs to take it from him. Sting departs as Lex looks dismayed. The crowd is in a bit of shock - is Sting going to become a heel?

- Backstage, The Giant cuts a promo explaining that his pride and the WCW Title are more important than blind loyalty to a narcissistic taskmaster like Kevin Sullivan. That's why he refused to lay down Monday night, and that's why he will tear down the Dungeon of Doom man by man rather than forsake his honor.

- The Giant defends his World Heavyweight title against Big Bubba Rogers.

WWF Superstars

- Dark: 1-2-3 Kid over some guy named Steve Blackman.

- Dark: Hillbilly Jim's new clients, the Hardyz, went over The Dudleyz.

- Superstars opens on Chris Jericho warming up backstage, with Vince and JR hyping the King of the Ring tournament, set to start tonight.

- Rowdy Roddy Piper as guest commentator for Chris Jericho vs. Jesse James. Jesse comes out swinging and gets Jericho in the corner right from the opening bell, but Jericho soon fights back into the match-up. After some back and forth wrestling Jericho applies the Walls of Jericho - however, Jesse gets to the ropes and forces a break. Jericho lets go and instead applies a new submission hold, making James tap. Roddy puts this move over on commentary as the Liontamer.

- Austin trash-talks his opponent for The King of The Ring Tournament, Jannetty. He nearly broke his neck with the Stone Cold Stunner last time, tonight he'll kick Jannetty's rear end again and advance in the tournament, and that's the bottom line 'cause Stone Cold said so! HHH gets the mic and announces that he's been booked for a match against Yokozuna, and looks to take the big man down a peg.

- Austin comes out to the ring for his KOTR 1st round match against Marty Jannetty.

A fast paced mat wrestling match which briefly ends up on the outside, where Stone Cold whips Jannetty into the steel steps. Back inside the ring Jannetty makes a comeback, and is about to get Austin in a belly to back suplex but is countered into a Stunner.

- Vader and the British Bulldog go over Wild Sparks (Holly/Mero). Vader and Bulldog make quick work of the faces.

After the match. Jim Cornette gets on the mic, talks up Bulldog's strength and says that King of the Ring will be Camp Cornette's greatest hour.

- Backstage, Mr Fuji apologizes to Yokozuna, and hopes to be in his corner tonight.

- Elsewhere, Backlund gives Haas a few words a wisdom in a Backlund sort of way. Haas, playing the straight man to Backlund's antics, just accepts the nonsensical ramblings of a crazy man and heads off for his match with D'lo Brown.

Haas beats D'lo in a dreadful match, and Backlund quickly grabs a mic again to pile the praise on Haas.

- Main event is Yoko w/ Fuji vs Hunter w/ Stone Cold.

It's not long before the match ends up on the outside, where the advantage is HHH's after hitting a flying clothesline from the ring apron and ground-and-pounding Yokozuna. The big man fights back into the match-up and whips HHH back into the ring. Meanwhile, Austin moves in on Fuji and steals his bag of salt. Back inside the ring, Hunter tries to set up a Pedigree on Yokozuna, but Yokozuna gets out of the hold before he can hit it and body slams Hunter to the mat. Just as Yokozuna is about to go for the pin, Austin throws salt into his eyes. The ref sees this and disqualifies Hunter.

After the bell, Austin/Hunter try to beat down Yokozuna, but he fights them off... until Vader shows up and the two brawl until the cameras go dark.

- WCW Saturday Night, loaded with 3 title matches, registered a 0.22 rating this week, up from last week's 0.21. WWF Superstars managed about the exact same - a 0.21 this week, up from a 0.20 the week before. Critically, WCW fared better - a C+ rating compared to Superstars D+ rating.

- Word has it that WWF may be about to burn some bridges. After very recently signing a working agreement with ECW, rumor is that they may be moving away from using such agreements and simply signing outright the talent they are interested in. Between the numerous signings of WCW, and a healthy lot of rumors for WWF signings, it's an interesting time to be a free agent wrestler.

- Both companies came under fire recently for having storylines that were not interesting enough for fans. Whether it was the ending and starting of new feuds as we build to another PPV, or whether it was feuds not firing on all cylinders, both companies have been strictly warned by ownership to fix the problem immediately.

WCW MONDAY NITRO posted:

- DARK: Sabu, Rob Van Dam, and Too Cold Scorpio defeat State Patrol and Diamond Dallas Page.

- DARK: That UFC guy Dan Severn beat Scott Norton. I thought WCW hated that Mixed Martial Arts stuff?

- DARK: El Hijo de Santo and Christian Cage defeat Kurasawa and Juventud Guerrera.

- In Nitro's opening contest, Sting, Barry Windham, and Konnan defeat Ron Simmons, Dean Malenko, and Jushin Thunder Liger in a six-man tag. Simmons seems openly disgusted with his tag partners, seeming to consider himself superior to the former US Title contenders.

- Post-match, Lex Luger comes out in street clothes with the TV Title and a microphone, asking Sting if he meant what he said on Saturday Night. Sting takes the mic from him and affirms his challenge, saying the only way he and Lex have a shot at being friends is for Sting to take the TV belt and leave Luger to reassess his priorities. Both Luger and Sting seem to want to say more, but the words won't come; Sting simply walks away, leaving Luger alone in the ring. For such a poignant moment, Sting kinda tripped over his words.

- Scott Steiner defeats Big Bubba Rogers in a singles match. Not the worst match I've ever seen.

- Backstage, Curt Hennig talks to an unseen figure, explaining that, with his new role as Commissioner, he needs support from people he trusts and has history with while he establishes himself. He tells the other individual that he believes he can count on him--can he? The camera then pans to reveal..."Ravishing" Rick Rude! Rude smirks, agreeing that the locker room needs to be whipped into shape, and who better to help than the Sexiest Man Alive? Hennig extends his hand, acknowledging that it's good to have "Deputy Commissioner Rude" aboard. Rude goes to accept the handshake, but lights in the commissioner's office flicker briefly, accompanied by a mysterious wing-flapping sound. Confused, Hennig and Rude finally clasp hands, formalizing Rude's new position.

- Eddy Guerrero defeats Chris Benoit when Ric Flair angrily stalks down the aisle near the match's conclusion, distracting Benoit long enough for Guerrero to slip out the back of a Crippler Crossface attempt and hit a Victory Roll for the pin.

- Ric Flair grabs a microphone and starts laying into Benoit with it, interspersing shots with shouts for Arn Anderson. Finally slapping a figure-four on Benoit, Flair issues a challenges to Anderson to a match at Great American Bash while still applying the hold to Benoit. Before Anderson can come out to respond either way, security emerges to break up the beatdown and pull Flair away.

- Harlem Heat defeat the Nasty Boys in a tag team contest. Then, they grab the mics and point out they did not get pinned in the three-way match at Slamboree and challenge the Road Warriors to a Harlem Street Fight at Great American Bash. The Road Warriors come out and accept, but only as a Chicago Street Fight. Curt Hennig and Rick Rude appear on the TurnerTron; Hennig announces that the new Deputy Commissioner has proposed a compromise. Rude says that, if the two teams are so intent on a street fight, the Road Warriors and Harlem Heat will head to Cleveland, Ohio for the the Great American Bash and have themselves a Cleveland Street Fight for the WCW Tag Team Championships! The Road Warriors remain in the ring for the following contest.

- The Road Warriors defeat Public Enemy in a WCW Tag Team Title match. The Public Enemy tries to set up tables for use during the match, though they ultimately go unused.

- Public Enemy, in a surprising show of sportsmanship, present the tag belts to the Road Warriors in acknowledgement of their defeat. The Warriors accept and share some good-natured handshakes, but all four men are blindsided by Harlem Heat. Booker T and Stevie Ray lay a beating on everyone with chairs, the title belts, and a weapon Stevie Ray terms to the cameraman his "slapjack." The bulk of their scorn is reserved for the Road Warriors, however--Animal is pitched over the top rope through a table at ringside, and another is set up in the ring, allowing Booker T to put Hawk through it with a Harlem Hangover. This segment wasn't awful, but nobody cared one bit that the Public Enemy are now good guys.

- In a tag team match, the Faces of Fear defeat American Males in a brief contest when VK Wallstreet interferes. But why has the money-market mogul involved himself in the Males' business?

- In a singles match, Dusty Rhodes faces Squire David Taylor with King Steven Regal joining the commentary team. Regal explains that the Nobility is superior to the common rabble proliferating throughout WCW, as represented by "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes. He notes that Rhodes can swing around a bullrope all he wants, but the Nobility shall be victorious. The match itself quickly devolves when Earl Robert Eaton interferes, sneaking in shots on Rhodes. When the referee becomes wise to Eaton's involvement and looks to eject him, Rhodes grabs his Texas bullrope and cracks the cowbell across Taylor's head for the pin.

- Arn Anderson storms into the Commissioner's office and only finds Deputy Commissioner Rick Rude. Anderson says he's looking for Commissioner Hennig, but Rude says, when Hennig isn't available, Rude is the authority and Anderson can answer to him. Anderson acknowledges that Rude and him have history going back to the days of the Dangerous Alliance, so Rude will surely see why Anderson would like to get his hands on Ric Flair for trying to keep himself relevant by sneak-attacking real Horsemen. Rude agrees, and says that if both Flair and Anderson want it, they can have it--Ric Flair will face Arn Anderson one-on-one at the Great American Bash!

- The Great Muta defeats Rick Steiner with a moonsault press. One of the best matches of the night.

- Kevin Sullivan emerges from the backstage area with The Shark and enters the ring, congratulating The Great Muta on another dominant victory and patting himself on the back for admitting Muta to the Dungeon of Doom's ranks. He then changes topics, noting that tonight, the Shark challenges the Giant for the WCW World Heavyweight Title. Sullivan explains that the Giant, being a fighting champion, wants to run through the entire gauntlet of Dungeon members. Sullivan thinks that's great--any one of the Dungeon members could defeat Giant and would be willing to give him, Kevin Sullivan, their Taskmaster, their newly-won title, which the ungrateful Giant refused to do because of foolish pride. Commissioner Curt Hennig appears on the stage and agrees that the gauntlet is a good thing, thinking the Giant's fortitude and readiness for battle makes him a great standard bearer for WCW. However, he does have one note to add--if the Giant can run the gauntlet and defeat every member of the Dungeon of Doom, the Dungeon will be forced to disband!

- MAIN EVENT: The Giant defeats The Shark with a thunderous chokeslam. Kevin Sullivan is on commentary for the match, very notably upset about the recent revelation that the Dungeon may disband if Giant runs the gauntlet, particularly when Tony Schiavone points out to him that the Giant has already defeated Big Bubba Rogers and Sullivan himself, two of the Dungeon's seven members. However, Sullivan puts over the Great Muta in particular as the man who could wrest the title from the Giant and give it to Sullivan.

- Randy Savage is out to the ring for a promo to end the show. He says that Hulk Hogan is a coward and a failure, and that his ego has become so big that it will prevent him from ever again attaining a title. Hulk Hogan comes out to the stage to rebut, saying he doesn't give a drat about WCW's titles--they're worthless without the power of Hulkamania legitimizing them. Besides, he says, Savage is just sore because he got rolled over by Hogan at Slamboree. Savage invites Hogan to the ring, where he'll show Hogan what it's like to be sore.

Hogan begins advancing on the ring...but suddenly, the Outsiders, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, jump the rail and beat down Savage! Hogan, looking confused, backs up, then goes into a full retreat backstage. Hall and Nash grab microphones, promising to make their intentions for WCW known at the Great American Bash. Security begins to flood to ringside; the show fades to black with the Outsiders escaping into the crowd with confident smirks.

WWF Monday Night RAW posted:

- Dark match: Marty Jannetty vs. Steve Blackman, Jannetty goes over.

- Dark match: Brad Armstrong vs. CW Anderson, Armstrong goes over.

- Dark match: Steve Corino w/Ted DiBiase vs. D'lo Brown, Corino goes over FAAAAAAAAAART

- Chris Jericho entrance accompanied by a limping Piper. In-ring promo on Cornette's Camp. Jericho calls out Owen Hart for keeping the Sharpshooter on Piper after the match was already over. Piper was right when he said Jericho'd never faced anyone like Owen before - in all the countries he's wrestled in, he's never met anyone as childish, and unscrupulous, and petty as Owen Hart. When Jericho is King Jericho The Lionhearted, his first order of business will be to get his hands on Owen, and he will never, EEEEEVER! be the same again! HBK's music hits, and he gets in the ring with Jericho. He offers to work together, as he also has his issues with Camp Cornette.

- King of the Ring video package. Show the current bracket. Commentators announce that another King of the Ring match is next.

- KOTR Round 1: Rocky Maivia/Edge. Rocky offers to shake hands before the match, Edge confusedly accepts. After managing to counter a Samoan drop into a reverse DDT, Edge climbs the top rope, and strikes a pose before going for a cross body. However, Rocky catches Edge and hits the Rock Bottom for the 3-count. Edge looks distraught as Rocky celebrates the win. Without notice, Jake "The Snake" Roberts was managing Edge for this one.

- Rocky Maivia grabs a mic and cuts a quick promo, talks about his bloodline, his wrestling legacy, how he'll honor the Maivia name by rising to the top of the WWF, starting with the KotR tournament.

- Main event announced - Michaels, Jericho and Piper vs. Camp Cornette in a six-man tag team match.

- The commentary desk talks about the enigmatic Yoshihiro Tajiri, the Japanese man of mystery, whose first televised match will be his first round match in the King Of The Ring Tournament. Jerry Lawler comes out and piledrives Kaz, and Gorilla declares that Aldo Montoya will replace Kaz.

- KOTR Round 1: Tajiri w/ Sho Funaki v. Aldo Montoya. Tajiri went over quickly. Mr. Fuji managed Tajiri here.

- Tatanka/Ahmed Johnson. Bob Backlund on guest commentary. Tatanka wins after interference from Charlie Haas.

- Backstage segment, Phatu is polishing his nice new Intercontinental Championship belt, when Sunny walks in with an official and talks him into giving Tom Prichard a title shot with her feminine wiles. He accepts, and she ups the ante, asking if they could... have a menage a trois? He accepts, flustered, before she tells the official, "You heard it, Tom is officially in tonight's IC Title rematch!" and walks away, leaving Phatu confused.

- Ultimate Warrior (now managed by Paul Bearer) squashes Jesse James, and gets attacked by Mankind after the match.

- On his way to the IC Title match, Goldust is attacked by The Undertaker. They brawl for a few minutes, before UT leaves Goldust laid out backstage, in no condition to wrestle.

- Tom Prichard defeats Phatu for the IC Title.

- Video package of Goldust/Taker feud.

- Main: Vader, Bulldog, and Owen w/Cornette vs. HBK, Jericho, and Piper. Kind of a mess here - I think there was too much going on. Maybe it came off better on TV, but live, it was pretty much a shitshow. Bulldog pins Piper, and Camp Cornette ends the show celebrating in the ring.

- Dark main event: The Undertaker defeats Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

- Another topsy-turvy week in the battle between these two companies. WCW improved their rating to a 2.88 - approximately where their ratings were before last week. WWF saw RAW's rating fall to a 2.36 (from 2.72 last week).

- WCW edged WWF in regards to critics as well - this week's Nitro was considered to be a C+ overall, where RAW was only a C. However, wrestling fans in AOL Chat Rooms have been much less favorable to WWF, criticizing the sloppiness of debuting a heel worker with a face manager, changing names of workers without any segments to explain it, and other odd booking decisions.

- Al Snow approached WWF management with some contract worries, and ended up leaving for ECW. It is generally considered that Snow and WWF parted ways amicably.

- While the Al Snow decision wasn't tough for WWF writers, supposedly dealing with some of their talent is. The reports we're getting are either incredibly off the mark, or SEVERAL wrestlers took issue with the original booking plans for RAW. The one common thread is that the booking to a match featuring the Ultimate Warrior led to a tense moment between the Warrior and the writing staff.

- While there's nothing concrete out there yet, WWF believes RAW will be extended to a 2 hour show, much like Nitro recently became, in the coming weeks. At this point, it's probably more of a "when" than an "if".

- Another unconfirmed report: Supposedly a middling WWF-hanger-on working in WCW was offered a small-time Pay Per Appearance gig up north - nothing that would have conflicted with his deal with WCW. Management freaked out and immediately gave the worker a brand new written contract (with pay raise) rather than let him pull in a seperate paycheck in the indies. I can't make heads or tails of it.

- With both companies still seemingly expanding their rosters, wrestlers have dollar signs in their eyes. At least a few independent wrestlers have been offered contracts by both companies, and I've even heard rumors that some workers are lying about being contacted by both, in order to drum up a "bidding war".

edit: WWF, you've got a couple of things to vote on via IRC.

Today was pretty dead, so I don't want to push things along too much if folks are going to be out due to the Holidays. Here's what we've got going on:

- WWF determined 2 pieces of significant information today, plus signed a couple notable free agents. Who? No! Find out in the Observer!

- WCW has SatNight mostly ready to go - I wouldn't be surprised if they've got it in the can by midday tomorrow.

Superstars will run by tomorrow, and SatNight has already been run. In the meantime, here's a mini-Observer.

quote:

- WWF hired two workers this week that should be making their debuts on TV rather soon. "The Model" Rick Martel and "The Belfast Bruiser" Dave Finlay signed and supposedly the writing team already has plans for these two.

- WWF's Brian Pillman underwent surgery on his shattered knee this week. While surgery was always an option, supposedly Pillman was content to let it heal naturally, as he is under a fully-guaranteed contract. WWF officials had Pillman on a conference call this week, explaining what plans they had for him as soon as he was physically able. The call must have made quite the impression, as Pillman went under the knife the very next day.

- WCW's Paul Orndorff apparently didn't care for his last appearance on Nitro. Because of the generally negative response to his appearance, he's decided to retire from wrestling for good. Word was he had told officials that he was good for an occasional match - but he was thinking Starrcade occasional, and not Hogan-fodder-on-Nitro occasional. We'll likely still see him in some capacity at WCW, just don't expect him to be inside the ring.

Saturday Night posted:

- DARK MATCH: Raven & Saturn defeat "Hardwork" Bobby Walker and Joey Maggs.

- DARK MATCH: Terry Gordy and Dan "The Beast" Severn defeat the Rock 'n Roll Express. Decent match here.

- In Saturday Night's opening contest, Squire David Taylor, Baron Alexander Wright, Duke Douglas Williams, and Lord Robert Brookside defeat The Public Enemy and Fire & Ice.

- The Giant is out to the ring for his impending title defense against Hugh Morrus. He takes the house mic and expresses excitement that he can control his destiny and disband the Dungeon of Doom, achieving total victory over Kevin Sullivan's goon squad.

- The Giant defeats Hugh Morrus with the chokeslam in a match for the WCW Championship.

- La Parka defeats Jerry Lynn in the opening round of the Cruiserweight Title tournament. Commentators note that Lynn is the former Mr. JL, whom Psicosis recently unmasked.

- Dusty Rhodes interviews VK Wallstreet backstage, asking for an explanation to why Wallstreet attacked the American Males on Nitro. Wallstreet explains that he's been having a rough few weeks playing the stock market and lost a pretty penny--though he's still richer than the entire crowd put together, of course. In an effort to blow off some steam, he tried to beat down Jerry Lynn some weeks ago, only to have Marcus Bagwell and Scotty Riggs decide to play heroes. Wallstreet notes that he's a man with deep pockets and a deeper capacity to hold a grudge, and the American Males have pissed off the wrong guy.

- The American Males defeat Men at Work.

- Post-match, Wallstreet, armed with a steel briefcase, bashes both Riggs and Bagwell in their faces. He raises the briefcase in rage and triumph over their fallen forms.

- A tag team match between the Nasty Boys and the Border Patrol is about to get started when, suddenly, the lights go out and the mysterious wings-flapping noise can be heard. As the commentators scramble to figure out what exactly is going on, multiple cracks akin to the sound of metal folding chair attacks are heard. The lights come back on only to find all four men unconscious! The referees waves the match off, as the competitors are hardly even beginning to stir. The crowd wasn't really sure how to respond here.

- King Steven Regal defeats Disco Inferno with the Regal Stretch. During the bout, Disco shows some surprising fire, though the spirited effort is not enough to overcome Regal.

- Post-match, Dusty Rhodes emerges from the backstage area armed with his Texas bullrope and challenges Regal to discard his noble trappings and face him, at the Great American Bash, in a match made in America--the Texas Bullrope Match! Regal takes a microphone and, though expressing some disgust at being tied to the filthy Rhodes, accepts the challenge, vowing to beat the "low-class ruffian" at his own game and prove British dominance. Rhodes clangs the cowbell excitedly, promising that "there's gonna be a-clubberin' in Cleveland, and I'ma show jolly old England what it's like to live the American Dream!"

- Video Package: Video recap of Arn Anderson's betrayal of Ric Flair at Slamboree, Anderson's vow that a New Horsemen will drive on, and Ric Flair returning to beat down Benoit and challenge Anderson.

- Lex Luger defends the Television Title against Earl Robert Eaton. Halfway through the match Sting suddenly shows up at ring side and glares, which distracts Lex enough to get rolled up. He kicks out and goes on a comeback offense earning a clean pin with his big running forearm.

- Post-match, Lex stares down Sting, who just claps slowly as he heads toward the back. Sting's face shows conflict--he does appear to be happy Luger won, but clearly remains upset with him.

- Video Package: A muscled & mulleted figured is shown in super slo-mo executing a running Cryon-Bomb on an unidentified robed figure. Before impact, the screen fades to a "Blood Runs Cold" title card, which itself dissolves to a second title card: "GLACIER."

- Dusty Rhodes interviews "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Savage ignores questions about the Outsiders attack on Monday, wholly focusing on Hulk Hogan. He says Hogan may think Hulkamania is the strongest thing there is, but Hogan himself is just a man, and no man is bigger than the WCW Title. Accordingly, he says he intends to challenge Hulk Hogan one-on-one at the Great American Bash, deflate his rather enlarged ego, get some well-deserved payback for Slamboree, and work his way back to a title opportunity..."ohhhhhhh yeahhhhh, dig it!"

- MAIN EVENT: Randy Savage defeats Diamond Dallas Page by pinfall with the flying elbow. Really solid match to wrap up the card.

- Mankind vs. Savio vega, Mankind goes over. Long, uncomfortable beating. Savio's hope spots are few and far between. It goes on and on and on. Mankind can be heard shouting throughout the match, screeching and wailing, referring to Savio as Warrior, telling him how much he loves to give and receive pain.

:supaburn: Breaking News from the Observer :supaburn:

It's just been confirmed that WWF has broken their working agreement with USWA. The move was made, in part, to try and sign Jeff Jarrett to an exclusive contract. However, WCW beat them to the punch and was able to get Jarrett inked earlier today. With money earmarked for Jarrett in the budget, WWF has begun making phone calls to try and sign some quality talent - possibly even from WCW themselves.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DElG1d-91Yw&t=89s

During the Monday Night Wars, one of the most exciting things was seeing wrestlers jump ship from one company to the next. And of course, with these two companies signing everyone in sight, it should be no question that people on both sides have asked to sign their rival's workers. The answer from me has been "not at this time" whenever asked.

And now that time has come.

What can be offered?

First things first, all of the wrestlers here will only sign a new deal if it is a written guaranteed deal. What you can offer is the number of years, monthly pay rate, and any combination of the following perks: Wage Matching (meaning the worker can force a raise to match anyone paid higher than them), Hiring Veto (which allows a worker to nix the hiring of someone he doesn't care for), and Creative Control (which allows the wrestler to reject angles and matches that do not satisfy him).

Who can be signed?

Any member of either roster that is under a Pay-Per-Appearance contract. You may use your offers to extend your own wrestlers, or to hire away rivals.

There will be 3 rounds of bidding, which I expect to take about a day each.

Round 1: 4 offers to extend.
Round 2: 2 offers to extend.
Round 3: 1 offer to extend. *NOTE* This round will take place AFTER Nitro/RAW.

This might mean offering contracts to 7 different wrestlers, or 4 the first day, then up your offer to 2 of those on the second day, then re-upping your offer on your prized possession on the last day.

Who is on a Pay-Per-Appearance deal?

WCW
Billy Kidman
Bobby Walker
Eddy Guerrero
El Gato
Jerry Lynn
Jushin Thunder Liger
Konnan
Kurasawa
Scott Norton
Squire David Taylor

WWF
Brooklyn Brawler
Jerry Lawler
Jesse James
King Mabel
Phinias Godwinn

USWA
Flex Kavana (previously Rocky Maivia in the WWF, now back in USWA after the end of their agreement)

How do we sign them?

In your Google Docs, create a tab labeled "Free Agent Bids". You will list the name and the offer you are extending. Make 2 other columns for related questions and answers - "How much does wrestler x make?" "How much are most of my midcarders making?". Once your bids for that round are complete, select them and make the text red. Keep in mind, once the text goes red, the offer cannot be changed for that round.

One Last Thing

Before you dash off to start making contract offers, I need your vote on this. Because our IRC channel and Google Docs are off-limits to the public, thread watchers miss out on some of the good stuff here. As much as I want to hide the results of this little experiment and make it a shock when these workers debut on new programs, I also think it may be too much to withhold. So, you will vote: Should the Observer announce the results of this hiring spree, or should the public be kept in the dark until Wrestler X debuts on Nitraw on any given Monday? On IRC, type "/msg JoeRules Public/Private" and tell me what you think. First one to 5 votes, regardless of company, decides.

Secondly, I miss the awesome RAW/Nitro breakdowns and message board postings that went on in the last thread. Take up the flag for your company and put some effort in: starting NOW (in regards to this little mini-game and moving forward) some favoritism will be shown to companies that add a little liveliness to the thread. In the same vein, if anyone following cares enough to be a "media representative" I might even open a new google doc with real and fake leaked news for you to report on.

Initial feedback for Day 1 offers has been posted in your doc. Rejections may be immediate, but there are no immediate acceptances - even if your feedback is "Holy poo poo, you wanna pay me how much?!", it takes ~1 week to sign.

I'll start inputting Nitro and RAW momentarily.

Saturday Night was considered a B-, and rated a 0.22. Superstars was considered a C- and was rated a 0.18.

Nitro ran, RAW is running now, and here's a little tidbit from the Observer.

Observer posted:

The kid with all the potential in the world, Rocky Maivia, was offered contracts with both WCW and WWF, however, I'm hearing that Rocky flatly refused the offer of one company outright, not even listening to details. I guess he's got his mind made up.

WCW MONDAY NITRO posted:

- DARK MATCH: Lance Storm defeats El Dandy. No one knew these guys, but it was a good match.

- DARK MATCH: Christian Cage and Rey Misterio Jr. defeat Border Patrol or whatever the hell they're called. This match blew.

- DARK MATCH: Sabu, Rob Van Dam, and Too Cold Scorpio defeats Terry Gordy, Big Bubba Rogers, and One Man Gang when Scorpio pins Gang. Pretty solid match.

- In a rematch from Slamboree to open Nitro, The Great Muta cleanly defeats Eddy Guerrero with the moonsault press.

- Kevin Sullivan is in the Commissioner's office with Deputy Commissioner Rick Rude. Rude tells Sullivan that WCW has a pay-per-view to promote, and he has been instructed by Curt Hennig to determine who will face The Giant in the potentially final match of the Dungeon gauntlet series for the WCW World Championship at the Great American Bash. Sullivan brushes this off, suggesting Giant likely won't even make it that far--he will face the monster Meng one-on-one tonight. Rude persists, but says he will allow Sullivan to select which remaining Dungeon member will face Giant. He acknowedges that certainly Sullivan must consider his strategy, and that he will give Sullivan until the end of the night to have his answer. The crowd is pretty hot tonight.

- Dusty Rhodes invites Hulk Hogan out to the ring for an interview, and Hogan obliges...carrying a familiar-looking title belt? Rhodes inquires about the belt, and Hogan reiterates his recent claims that WCW's titles are worthless because "the Hulkster ain't holding them, brother." He brandishes this new title belt and confirms that it is the AWA World Heavyweight Championship, a title he defeated Nick Bockwinkel for in June 1982. He acknowledges that the dead promotion never formally recognized the reign, but says his millions of Hulkamaniacs the world over knew the truth--that he was the only true world champion, that no man other than the Hulkster can hold a title belt and call himself the best. He proudly displays the belt, which he also refers to as the "Hulkamania World Championship," and declares he will only defend it against "worthy opponents," though he openly questions whether anyone in WCW is worthy of facing the Hulkster.

"Macho Man" Randy Savage emerges, calling Hogan delusional and a liar--he notes that Hogan's spiral into self-serving egomania began when Savage proved he was better than Hogan by beating the clock and earning a shot at the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. He says he has not and will not forgive Hogan for screwing him out of the real world title and for stabbing him in the back, and formally extends a challenge to Hogan for a match at the Great American Bash. Hogan accepts, promising to finish what he started at Slamboree, but declares the match a non-title bout, telling Savage, "you're not on my level, jack." Savage shrugs, saying that's fine--call it the AWA World Heavyweight Championship, call it the "Hulkamania World Championship," but all it really is is Hogan running his mouth. He'll still beat Hulkster, oh yeah, but he's keeping his eyes on the real prize: the WCW Heavyweight Title. Savage says he'll get back there once Hogan is put in his place for good. Uh, yeah, the crowd is REALLY hot tonight.

- Commissioner Curt Hennig--who the commentators note is a former AWA World Heavyweight Champion himself--is watching the Hogan interview on a monitor and is openly disgusted, muttering "Hulkamania World Championship..." to himself. The Road Warriors burst into the Commissioner's office and demand to face Harlem Heat tonight, furious at their ambush last Monday and the unresolved brawl from Saturday Night. Hennig obliges, but says any tag action between the teams will have to wait until the PPV--tonight, it's singles matches.

- Psicosis defeats Billy Kidman in the opening round of the Cruiserweight Title tournament. Not the worst match ever, but it really slowed the momentum the show had going.

- A scheduled singles match between Jim Duggan and Steve "Mongo" McMichael is suddenly disrupted before the opening bell when the lights go out and the now familiar, but still unexplained, wings-flapping noise is heard. Following the resounding crack of chairshots, the lights come back on to reveal Duggan and McMichael laid out, and the official is forced to wave the match off. Some of the crowd are booing.

- Madusa approaches a sullen Billy Kidman in the locker room and consoles him about his cruiserweight tournament match loss. She confides in him that she has heard tell of a man with strong influence who could change Kidman's life and career for the better. She says she will try to get an audience with him in the interests of helping Kidman. Kidman, for his part, seems confused and noncommittal. I'm not sure if he was supposed to act confused, or if he was caught off guard and had just gotted really high or something. I'm not even sure he knew there were cameras.

- The Barbarian, The Shark, and Hugh Morrus defeat The Steiner Brothers and Konnan in six-man tag team action when Ron Simmons interferes against Konnan, allowing Shark to crush Konnan with the Shark Bomb for the pin. Teddy Long joins the commentary team during the contest to hype his charge Ron Simmons and the US Title contest between Simmons and Konnan at the Great American Bash.

- Road Warrior Hawk defeats Stevie Ray in a singles match with a flying clothesline.

- Video Package: Glacier is shown in super slo-mo executing a running Cryon-Bomb on an unidentified robed figure. Before impact, the screen fades to a "Blood Runs Cold" title card, which itself dissolves to a second title card: "GLACIER."

- VK Wallstreet defeats Marcus Bagwell in a singles contest when he hits Bagwell with the steel briefcase behind the referee's back. Bagwell puts up a strong performance despite this.

- Scotty Riggs runs out to check on Bagwell post-match, only to find himself brained by Wallstreet's steel briefcase as well.

- Booker T defeats Road Warrior Animal when Stevie Ray slips him the slapjack, allowing him to hit Animal and get the pinfall.

- Curt Hennig is out for the contract signing for Ric Flair vs. Arn Anderson. Anderson comes out with Benoit and Woman, Flair comes out alone. At the table, Anderson points out how Flair's days of reckless abandon have led to him losing his focus as a wrestler, and, as a result, losing the Four Horsemen. Flair remarks Anderson is a low-life backstabber and that, without Ric Flair, there wouldn't be a Four Horsemen--Ric Flair IS the Four Horsemen. Anderson points out that it's hard to lead a four-man band when you've got no one backing you up--Flair doesn't have a friend in the world, Anderson says, while he has Benoit and Woman behind him. Flair says he doesn't need any backup to beat Arn Anderson, and if Anderson's such a tough guy, he'll leave his lackeys in the locker room come Sunday. Arn agrees. Flair says that Anderson doesn't stand a chance solo, and if Arn wants to lead a New Horsemen, if he wants to be the Man...well, he's got to beat the Man. Arn smirks knowingly, and signs the contract; Flair follows suit. With the dotted lines signed, Curt Hennig announces Ric Flair vs. Arn Anderson at the Great American Bash!

- Without warning or entrance music, WCW Owner Ted Turner is out to the ring with a microphone and demands an audience with Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, who he is certain are somewhere in the crowd. Hall and Nash oblige, vaulting the guardrail and entering the ring. Turner demands to know why the Outsiders have been assaulting WCW personnel, eating their catering, and now disrupting actual matches from being conducted, as in earlier tonight and on Saturday Night. Nash cherry-picks only the last point to dispute--he denies responsibility for the "wing-flapping" attacks, saying that if they were going to attack WCW employees, "you'd know it was us." Turner continues berating the Outsiders, demanding they reveal their intentions and stop causing general havoc on WCW's programming. Hall simply shakes his head, noting that "we don't work for you." Turner plows forward, now jamming a finger in the Outsiders' chests and ordering them to stay away from WCW. Hall and Nash share a look; having tired of entertaining Turner's demands, they turn on him, downing him with a Jackknife Powerbomb! Not content with this, an Outsider's Edge on WCW's owner follows!

Nash stands over Turner's fallen form, repeating that ""we don't work for you."" Hall, meanwhile, holds up six fingers to the nearest camera and says "six days..."

Security comes running out from the back, but Hall and Nash, their work done, are already booking it through the crowd toward the exit.

- Sting and Barry Windham defeat Lex Luger and Dusty Rhodes, with Texas bullrope in tow, in a tag team contest. Sting and Luger are largely kept apart in what is mostly a clean contest from the four faces, but finally have words and end up in a heated tie-up along the ring ropes that requires the intervention of the referee and Barry Windham. This allows King Steven Regal to sneak in and knock Rhodes out with the bullrope's cowbell; Sting, none the wiser to Regal's chicanery, hits a top-rope splash for the pin.

- Backstage, The Giant is walking towards the curtain for his main event title defense. Kevin Sullivan, his hands held in the air as a gesture of non-aggression and with the Faces of Fear flanking him, approaches Giant and acknowledges his success in defeating Dungeon of Doom members so far. He offers Giant one final opportunity to surrender the title; he'll even allow the Giant to rejoin the Dungeon if he does. Giant flatly refuses, promising to crush the Dungeon. Sullivan nods, resigned to Giant's course; he begins gesturing in the direction of Barbarian, noting, "If you make it that far, your opponent at the Great American Bash will be..."

Suddenly, The Great Muta appears out of nowhere and spits red mist into Giant's face! Giant frantically claws at his eyes, trying to flail at any Dungeon member near enough; Sullivan announces that Giant's opponent at GAB will be "...The Great Muta!" Sullivan, Meng, Barbarian, and Muta club the blinded Giant to the ground with fist and forearm shots. As the four Dungeon members continue to stomp Giant, security finally intervenes, causing the attackers to flee. Nitro cuts to commercial break.

- Back from commercial, Commissioner Curt Hennig and Deputy Commissioner Rick Rude are on the scene with medical personnel attending to Giant. Hennig and Rude are discussing how or if Giant's title defense could be postponed due to the Dungeon's assault, but Giant, still blinded and clearly not 100%, rises, pushes past the medical staff, Hennig, and Rude above their objections and heads out to the ring for his scheduled match.

- MAIN EVENT: The Giant defeats Meng with a chokeslam to successfully defend the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Meng controls more than his fair share of the match due to the Giant's vision problems, but Giant is resilient enough to fight back and secure the victory.

THE OBSERVER
- WCW pulled in a 3.05 rating, their highest in over a month, with Monday's show. Things are looking good for this Sunday's Great American Bash, one of WCW's standout pay-per-views. I'd run down the card for you, but I'll leave that for someone else to do!

- WWF fell flat this week, with a 2.13 rating - their lowest since the start of May. While the show appeared reasonably well booked, there were several dreadful dark matches that really hurt the crowd overall. Some of the show-runners may want to re-think how they're doing things.

- Critically, WCW's hot crowd trumped WWF's dead crowd: B- to C-. This means that WCW has won the bounty offered by JoeRules for this week. WCW - you now have a budget of $10,000 to be used for worker bonuses.

Not familiar with TEW2013? posted:

In TEW, a lot of the things you do will piss off the workers. Jobbing them, not pushing them enough, botching a turn, leaving them off a show, etc. The easy way to ease their troubles is by paying them. Thus far, I have not allowed the companies to bonus workers, meaning their backstage environments are starting to suffer a bit. So WCW, if used wisely, has earned the ability to soothe some backstage concerns. Considering their backstage is in a far worse condition than WWF's, this could be HUGE.

- I don't know what he did, but Savio Vega pissed someone in the WWF writer's room off. Don't expect his burial to slow down any time soon. Ouch.

- In regards to PPA signings, the first day saw both companies converge on Rocky Maivia and 1 other worker. From there, each company set their priorities differently. Rest assured, we'll be seeing at least a few workers change sides of the Monday Night Wars. BUT WILL THE PUBLIC KNOW ABOUT IT???

To the World Wrestling Federation, World Championship Wrestling, United States Wrestling Association, and wrestling fans all over the world:

I am aware that my future holds quite a bit of potential, but I'm not going to sell out to the first paycheck that comes my way. I refuse to be signed to a roster of a million new faces and get lost in the crowd. I'm happy becoming a star my way.

For this year, anyways.

- Best Wishes,

Flex The Rocky Kavana Johnson Maivia III

- Rumor has it that WWF sent an offer sheet up to Vince who laughed it off as a joke. We know there's some quality talent in the pool of wrestlers available, but we're told this offer would have made one of them the 3rd highest paid worker in the company.

- When rumors spread that WWF was interested in "Hard Work" Bobby Walker, several WCW writers giggled like little girls. Walker has not received a WWF contract offer.....yet.

- Not enough votes came in on either side of the Public/Private discussion for new contract signings. Here's how we'll move forward: the contract signings will be kept private - however, once all the new signings have debuted, a public poll will decide who did a better job bringing in their newly acquired talent. The winner of this poll will recieve a prize - and the loser will be punished. Don't drop the ball on the new guy(s).

edit: Schedule-wise, we'll run Saturday Night as soon as I get a greenlight, and Superstars shortly after that. Then, I suppose, it's only fitting that we run Great American Bash on Sunday night.
