PriorMarcus posted:Were they? For some reason I seem to remember them having another, final year, after Jeff would've graduated. It's for the whole "repilot" thing. They wanted to be able to come up with something resembling a watchable fresh start for a new viewer while at the same time leaving behind the weird poo poo that Season 4 had done with as little acknowledgment as possible. They way they did it with a time jump and a bunch of implication wasn't great, but was still better than wasting a bunch of time trying to tie up loose ends from S4, especially considering how the bitterness of Dan Harmon trying to do that would have come through in the writing and just caused more drama and speculation. Honestly I thought the first episode already suffered enough from trying to give everything a new context and also explain what happened between then and now. Better to pollute a little bit of one episode with that and have a strange opening rather than potentially gently caress up the whole season trying to figure out some sort of more elegant transition. speng31b fucked around with this message at 16:14 on Jan 4, 2014 |
