Plus Sochi is geographically really close to a lot of those cauacasian regions that are wracked with conflict.

Sochi is also in Krasnodar Krai, which is pretty close geographically speaking to Dagestan and Chechnya, the twin epicentres for the Chechen seperatist movement.
