Judging from the rest of IH engineering they probably designed it to run on sand and spit.

I always feel like IH just snagged what ever they could from other companies. Kinda like AMC did... just borrow a little from every one.

Yea when I brought the radiator to the shop the guy was totally sure it was from a Ford so I said it probably is.

Just to complete the circle, IH used AMC 232/258 cube inline 6s and 401 cube v8s at some points. With chrysler auto trannies, because chrysler had already made their trans fit those engines for AMC.

I'm 30 minute north of you right now and it suuuuucks. The worst part is, it's light where you are- wait till you get further south. I've got 8" of snow and I think they have 12-15" with ice on top.

It a getting better now further south. The roads are pretty clear but we're are dodging tire chains all over the highway. Also the Italian greyhound we are traveling with just shat on my leg because we couldn't pull into any of the side roads or parking lots because they weren't plowed yet. Good times.

What is going on with that center gauge? I see above the needle "[degrees]F" and below it "x10". Is steel being made somewhere in that car?

Guessing it is hooked to an EGT pyrometer.

The gauge model is called "x10" it's not "*10". It's not the smartest name to choose for a gauge though.

Its not the name of the gauge its the numbers shown times 10. Its pointing to 850 degrees in that picture.

Yeah at those temperatures it's gotta be an EGT gauge on a turbo car (which it is).

Turbo cars have hot exhaust, because hot is fast.

Im working on my mowers right now if anyone wants to see those in various states of disrepair. We might be putting a synchroed 3 speed in the 48 next weekend so there might be some flatty pics then. Also because of that 3 speed I now have a T5 for the C10 that will go in this summer. I'll be back to the 56 as soon as I'm done with the mowers which will hopefully be this week.

What's the story on your tractor with the blower... the one with the tires that are the same size front and rear?

shy boy from chess club

You mean the snow blower? Its a Steiner tractor with a 25?hp kubota 3 cylinder diesel. Steiners are awesome, they make a million different attachments for them. I also have a gas one that I use for a bunch of different things in the summer. It has a bucket, leaf blower and I use it a lot to spread fertilizer.

I was waiting on some parts for the mower so I organized some of the mess I had on the shelves in the shop.

Well I finally remembered to bring my camera out to the shop today. Working on my gas Steiner, it has a huge hydraulic leak and the muffler leaks all over and is broken inside. I tracked down the leak yesterday and its gonna suck bad, really bad. Its the feed line going from the control unit for the implements to the control unit for the steering.

This is the control unit for the implements and the hose luckily is the one on the outside towards the left.

Here is the fun part, the other end is the one all the way to the right where these 4 hoses go into the steering unit.

Here is the hole in which I have to work through. Yea none of those red panels surrounding everything come apart. Its all welded together and part of the tractors frame.

I'm waiting on the hose so I havent taken it apart yet but I am certainly dreading it. Figured Id change the muffler since that should be easy, right on the front of the engine and the frame around the engine unbolts easily.

Both inlet welds were broken, I thought it was just one. The baffles inside are also broken and it clogged up every once in a while until I unjammed them by sticking something in the outlet.

Veeee Twooooo!

If anyone follows Roadkill on facebook you might have seen the story about one of the guys toolbox that got stolen recently. It was his grandfathers and he had it forever. Every day I work with some of the tools that my great-great and great uncle worked with every day since the 50s. They purchased a kit from Montgomery Ward that cost around a thousand dollars in the mid 50s so that was a pretty big investment. Seeing Finnegans? toolbox get stolen made me appreciate these tools even more than I had previously. Love my Power-Krafts!

Chased the threads for the head bolts

So it turns out there is a TSB for putting the new muffler on my Steiner. I wasnt sure what year it was before this but it is apparently an early one with the muffler exiting on the "passenger" side and all the new ones exit on the "drivers" side. Luckily it came with a template to cut the new hole.

Modded exhaust on my tractor.

Got some mildly productive work done on the Binder today.

Got the battery tray and associated covers painted

I also got some Rust Prevention Magic which I think was just a $35 can of car wax. Either way I did a ton of metal that I wanted to leave bare without rusting including a lot of bolts and the metal gas and vacuum lines.

Then I installed the road draft tube, distributor, oil filter, starter, generator, water pump pulley and harmonic balancer.

The C10 has turned into a work bench.

I'm lucky that my cat is short haired enough that she doesn't get matting, but with my old Siamese when she stopped being able to clean herself I was basically running a Furminator through her two or three times a day to just keep on top of it.
