I'd like to see them mix up the challenges with a bit more fun stuff like that time the contestants applied make up to themselves and had to serve family members in a shop without being recognised.

They won't be able to do that stunt ever again since the friends and family members of subsequent contestants would be aware of it and would be looking out for it ... plus that girl's mother totally recognised her but figured it out and played dumb which also ruined it.

But yeah, wacky stuff in that vein would be a nice change.

Very true, it'd be cool to see challenges where they use make up skills to produce realistic injuries, sex changes, old age make ups etc there's so much they could do outside the fictional fantasy work...

I'm pretty sure they did the old age make ups once.

I was thinking that in the first season, they actually showed the contestants doing that. And some where they pulled names from a hat to let the contestants pick out their models in an orderly fashion.

They've done at least two realistic injury challenges. They were just a foundation challenges. I can't remember if they've also done a spotlight challenge that was creating realistic injuries.

Idea: they're each assigned some type of injury/malady with grotesque symptoms. They do a makeup based on the symptoms and each take their actor to a different LA set medic crew. The person whose medic takes longest to realize it's makeup wins!

I probably wouldn't be able to recognize that it was my friend or loved one under the makeup, but I'd realize that it was makeup and that would cause me to stare awkwardly.

From what I've seen don't they usually do reverse order from when they pick their challenge idea? So the person who went last, gets first pick in the model choice. That means you get the lovely idea, but you go with the solid known excellent model.

A well done old age makeup, even if it's higher quality, is less visually impressive than a 7 foot tall Minotaur.

The various zombie challenges are kind of like that, although then there's the death makeup laid down over any injuries so not exactly. There was one makeup from the first season where the zombie got run over by a car which was pretty good (the judges disagreed, but hey).

Yeah the Weird Al hair did not help, neither did the backgina.

I kind of want a "twinsies" challenge where they have to turn an assigned, very different model into themselves. Race-swap, gender-swap, smiley-blonde-model-not-allowed challenge.

Of course the red dye budget would go through the roof.

Argh that sounds great, I would have loved a series but I'll settle for a special if that's all they can manage.

Edit: it's on Tuesday, March 18 on Syfy (10-11 p.m. ET) :woop:

quote:

Popular former "Face Off" contestant Eric Fox (aka Foxy) is taking on Hollywood with his charmingly sinister personality and characteristic good humor in the original Syfy docu-special, "Foxy & Co." Foxy appeared on season four of "Face Off" and became an immediate fan favorite thanks to his original style, wild imagination and mad-scientist-like creations. This all-new special follows Foxy as he opens up his very own creature effects shop with the help of fellow former "Face Off" contestants Nicole Chilelli, RJ Haddy and Roy Wooley. But this time, instead of competing against each other, the artists have come together as one unbelievably creative force. From creating dozens of zombies for the upcoming Brian Pulido film Zack the Zombie Exterminator to an inspirational breast cancer awareness campaign for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, the team dives into each job with artistic passion and consistently hold themselves to only the highest of standards.

Season 1 had a looot of time spent going into more detail about that stuff. It was pretty interesting. I'd definitely recommend going back and checking it out if you can.

Since we are snowed in, doing just that. Some interesting differences in season 1 so far, two episodes in:

They definitely explained more in the first episode, though not much about molding yet.
Winner consults with judges on who should go home. That is dumb.
Model molds they sculpt on are only face, not full head.
Second challenge is completely different format than normal with a six hour body painting session. Interesting idea.
Ve seems meaner, Glen hasn't developed his persona yet, Patrick isn't around anymore.
Frank sure seems like a doofus compared to Season 5.

Whoa, I'd totally forgotten that they did that. That IS dumb.

Frank's probably the returning contestant who impressed me the most, I don't know if it's a reaction to his father dying or just growing up a little, but he came back as someone I wouldn't have been super-shocked to see in the final three.

He probably got a lot of negative feedback from random internet people about his actions in season 1 which was probably a bit of a shock. If I had complete strangers yelling at me for being a reality TV rear end in a top hat I'd probably stop and reassess things.

That is also probably true. Man, when he didn't get sent home on the body-painting episode I figured the producers were going to keep him in until almost the end, luckily that love connection subplot started up so they could ditch him.

Episode 6: "Cryptic Creatures"
Airdate: February 18, 2014
Spotlight Challenge: The artists arrive at a mysterious swamp and learn they'll be making creatures unknown to science - Cryptids.

Eh, could go either way. There'll be a few boring sculpts which mix two animals together but hopefully some of the contestants come up with some good ideas.

Current contestant stats after 5 episodes:
Cat: bottom looks twice.
Chloe: won/top looks once, bottom looks once.
Corrine: won once, top looks twice.
Daran: won once, top looks three times, bottom looks once.
George: top looks three times, bottom looks once.
Graham: top looks twice.
Matt: bottom looks three times.
Niko: won once, top looks twice, bottom looks twice.
Rashaad: top looks three times.
Tyler: won once, top looks twice, bottom looks once.

Corrine, Graham and Rashaad have always been safe or top looks, Cat and Matt have never been top looks.
