Greetings, sweaty manhugging fans. We're entered year 4 of the Punchsport Pagoda as we now know it. As such, we'd like you to help us look both back and forward -

What do you, the posters, want to see more of as we head forward in 2014? What do you want to see less of? What are your suggestions to improve this forum?

Wait, no. That seems a bit excessive don't you think? It's annoying as hell, but I don't think it warrants any kind of probation.

As a general rule, I will start probating if catchphrases become wearisome, but I encourage people to discourage them via peer pressure first.

With the WWE Network coming up, we're also going to be running into subscribers chat too, and it's going to be just as bad. Keep it out of the discussion thread and put it in it's own thread.

As a real suggestion, 100% less fantasy booking in wrestling threads. Unless it's one of those game threads. It's kind of been a guideline in the past, but it still gets out of control here and there. And it's always terrible.

Are you suggesting we need a "THIS BUSINESS" thread? Can we get a Triple H thread tag for it?

The MMA threads are good these days but the catchphrase "[excuse], fight doesn't count" has been run into the ground. It started around the time of Junior Dos Santos/Cain Velasquez II after he wasn't attracted to his wife, fight doesn't count, and here we are a year later and it's still going.

Basically I would like all posters to put more effort into being funny, myself included.

Deadpool posted:

MMA could use a business thread if you're going to make one for WWE. I know a lot of posters hate talking about PPV buys and Eddie Alvarez contract disputes and Mac Danzig's sponsors but some of us dorks like it.

My preference is always that people saying stupid things be discouraged via people explaining to them why they're stupid. I will probate people if their stupidity is persistent and disruptive, but I prefer that to be a last resort.

Lloyd Boner might be taking it a bit too far, but it has been a pretty one track mind in the WWE threads as of late. I like him too, but maybe there ought to be a Daniel Bryan worship thread so that other things don't get swallowed in the hysteria of whether or not Bryan died of concussion this week?

I think the MMA threads are fine.

This is the only tolerable wrestling forum on the entire internet, so I say just keep up the good work.

Every problem I've ever had in here had nothing to do with rules or moderation.

I was happy last year when my suggestion to merge the MMA and Wrestling picture threads was taken. As a result, I was exposed to the sport a lot more than I would've been, and even watched the last PPV.

Which now that I think about it, is how I saw Spider's leg fall the gently caress off, so nevermind.

BEEEEEEES!

Once the WWE Network launches, we should take some initiative to make "Let's Watch" threads to coordinate watching "live" old shows with other goons. GDTs are a lot of fun, but having ones for WCW, ECW, and Attitude or Hulkamania-era WWE shows and PPVs would be great. Or if that would make things too cluttered, coordinate watching with a chat.

other than that the only issues are i'm not sure the q&a thread still needs to be stickied and carlos condit isn't champion yet.

It's kind of unavoidable though given his understandable popularity, and in general I think this forum is moderated sensibly and relatively lightly.

I respectfully disagree. As a casual MMA fan, my interest is high enough that I'd be willing to go through a MMA photos (maybe merged photos and gifs) thread, especially if more context was given. As it is, occasionally an MMA picture breaks up the wrestling pictures, and if context isn't given 1/4 of a page disappears in 'who the hell is that wrestler'. I can't imagine how terrible the images thread is to an MMA fan, where 90%+ of it is white noise with no context.

After UFC 168, someone linked to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWJWFgo_jD4, which I thought was an excellent breakdown from an expert. While I appreciate what goons may do, I think expert breakdown in video form, with a partner, may be best, rather than text analysis of the something awful forum.

People love to hate things, that's fine. It's easy to focus on the negative, especially with WWE's less than consistently stellar booking; it's why I don't often go into the WWE Discussion thread (that and I'm afraid hot dog chat could break out again).

I think probably we could use a new Q&A thread. The main reason I've left it stickied is that one of the things I want for PSP is to be welcoming of new fans; ideally I'd like a person who has no idea about mma who decides to start watching some events to be able to come in and get some idea of what's what. If anybody has additional ideas about how to make it easier/more welcoming for that sort of thing, let me know.

That's a bit inevitable, though, given that wrestling works a couple hundred events a year, and due to the greater toll real fighting takes on the body, MMA as a televised sport works much, much less often. Might be worth splitting, but would the MMA pictures thread have enough going to even keep it active?

A general rule of "Losing a match != burial 4 lyfe" would be a nice guideline. The doomsaying really is a bit much, especially when it's an immediate reaction to something that JUST happened, or a Meltzer rumor that HASN'T YET.

I went back a year and read a Raw GDT from December 2012 that claimed The Shield were being buried. They didn't even lose a match by pinfall until June 2013.

I agree with the pictures thread being poo poo sometimes, a bit of context or a short description wouldn't hurt anything.

I can assure you that most MMA fans are familiar with Gracie breakdowns as well.

Personally, the MMA half of the forums I think is handled perfectly. We don't have bullshit probations (except random oddities like "rivals.com puns" from mods that don't moderate the forum), we tend to regulate our own threads and disagreeing is met with decent arguments.

I don't think the same holds true for the wrestling half and part of that might just be that there's more wrestle-posters, but rather than letting discussions run and acting like normal posters with janitorial duties you see probations for "trolling" or posters with dissenting opinions being run out by the "cliques" that formed (PSP-tv, wrestle-twitter people). It doesn't foster discussion but it does give rise to jokes that are run into the loving ground like typing Curtis Axel all retarded months after it was ever relevant or funny to begin with. Comparing everything to comic book storylines and fantasy booking are also pretty terrible and should be shamed but not probated for

This last thing might just be me but it also bothers me that a lot of posters seem to be in a constant race to be the most offended or constantly seeking to demonize a wrestler/personality they don't like. It's a "sport" with dudes in spandex doing over-dramatic promos while a fake Italian runs around with a snake on his hand and a commentator is painted like a cat and I feel like there's a whole lot of politics and real life drama that gets brought into threads because *gasp* Mick Foley might have cheated on his wife or *gasp* Dolph Ziggler likes to tweet porn stars. I think some of y'all forget to have fun with a fun wrestling thing.

Apart from that, I love the mma posters and #mma is one of the best place to talk punch-fights so 4 more years.

Though maybe we should have like a MMA twitter thread too because there's a lot of stuff that doesn't really have a place for random tweets from fighters/media dudes.
