2 QUESTIONS: Who else has got some BTCs at ~$1,000 and is still holding? If so, why haven't you realized the loss yet? (self.Bitcoin)
submitted 2 hours ago* by bit-architect
Hi there, I wonder:
Who else has got some BTCs at ~$1,000 and is still holding?
If so, why haven't you realized the loss yet?

I will begin.
I got some, back in early December, before the 12/17 crush / correction and painfully observed since then.
I still hold onto them because it is a loss only after I sell and realize it. For now, it is just a short term asset depreciation.

I believe in the protocol and see the long term benefits. If I start selling long (or short) to capture short term gains / save short term losses, I will just become too suspectable to emotional, market swings and run into the risk of loosing an objective overview on what really matters: the acceptance and recognition are getting larger every day, all the while crooks seem to be dying off (see last few weeks).

EDIT: Thanks all for the supportive words so far. No worries, I am a believer and won't be tempted to chicken out after only a few weeks.

I myself also always advise, invest what you know you won't need any time soon, for instance a year or more. Then hold, wait, and ignore the market fluctuations. You will gain either way. Wanna a proof?

If the price rises, then you will have made some profits, obviously.
If the price remains unchanged or drops, then you will have been without that money well off for over a year and hence you won't need it anyways. You will be able to wait some more for a possible increase, or withdraw, in which case you will get extra cash instantly.
If Bitcoin fails entirely (which none of us see happening any time soon), then you will be still relatively young and have all life ahead to make up for anything. And most importantly, you will be older to realize so.
It is a win-win-win situation for you either way.

One of the more major cryptocurrencies released their source code and a guide that is pretty much just find/replace their name, then you have your own coin! :buddy:
And as you can imagine, there are a lot of people doing that. You can have thousands of these smaller coins and still only have a tiny fraction of the dollar. I pretty much use them because trading those around makes me feel like I have one of those free fake Yahoo investing profiles. In fact, BitCoin isn't even worth the most, there is a coin(called 42Coin) worth ~350 Bitcoins. When the bitcoin crashes, there will not only be schadenfreude from the BTC community, but from the other coin as well.

And it looks like that may be starting soon. Last time I checked the BTC/USB value was over $1000, currently $642, and on the third biggest BTC/USD exchange: ~$200.

One last piece of shadenfreude I've seen while messing around with cryptocurrency. https://www.cryptsy.com/, another popular exchange site, had a brief bug where you could withdraw coins when you had a balance of 0. Around this same time, people reported shrinking BTC balances and missing coins. One user reported a withdrawal of 60 coins(around $1200 per coin at that time), when he had nothing before. http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2013/12/06/withdraw-bitcoins-cryptsy-now/

Sorry about that.

Guy makes a new virtual coin.
Friend advertises a site where people can get new coin together.
Creator of coin shuts him down.
Creator of coin uploads his source code online.
Friend finds source code and downloads before the coin's release.
Friend comes across large stash of coins meant for the creator.

Later:
More people find the source code and begin advertising.
Creator threatens to rewrite the coin to ignore the early "miners".
Creator announces delays almost at the moment the coin was supposed to be released.
Community gets angry and uses the source code to make their own coin.
The new coin is an intentional mockery of the original coin.

Took three months before it was finally in my bank account but it bought me my first car.

So there's plenty reasons why you shouldn't invest in btc but I got really lucky with them

I'm not as smart/web aware as Tsani, Roast, Crusty and Shy are so I can't really comment to anything in particular in this thread.

As someone who does a small amount of SEO and web design I must say I'm impressed with how you've constructed your post and thread topic to be optimized for search engines. It seems clear to me that you've achieved a dual purpose here, to seed Google with more results for bitcoin in relevance to the legal sex industry and your service and to try and recruit a new work/client base for it. Very clever.

I would have to have a really, really good reason to take bitcoin as payment. I'd need an even better reason to take bitcoin than to take paypal. It's a reputation thing. I know that I'm wicked paranoid but...

The people who know about bitcoin even fewer hit points in "trust stranger on the internet" skill than we cam girls have.

Try telling an average Joe who is afraid to trust anything other than Paypal that he should pay you with the currency developed by the dark internet and he'll disappear even faster than he does when I say, "I take Payoneer, NiteFlirt, or AdultWork". Try telling a cam girl she should accept the currency that was developed to hide illegal activities and is commonly used by hackers, drug dealers and people who consume illegal porn and you'll get suspicious looks like you're getting now.

Stains two ways
A)If he says he wants to pay in it I know that he's smart enough to figure out how to get services similar to mine without paying for it. Therefore, why is he paying for it?
B)Have you ever been a woman exchanging wads of dollars at a bank on a Sunday afternoon with eyeliner stains on your lids and crumpled hair? Bitcoin is the virtual equivalent of that. Everyone who knows what it is knows who usually uses it and will therefore look at you like you do that. I already get enough poo poo because the general public think the legal adult industry and the illegal adult industry are all the same. I'm not asking for a second helping.

Like I said, I'm wicked paranoid, but those are just my thoughts.

I would stop posting before you continue to dig yourself into an even deeper hole. You aren't doing a good job of defending your posts and it's just coming off like some of the PMS squabbling some of us get into around here.

Anyways, besides your poor responses there are plenty of other reputable company's/options for cam-girls to receive money. And I think a lot of us cam-girls, as well as our customers would prefer to pay by the dollar rather than in World of Warcraft coins. I think the coin option was a poor biz move, IMO.

quote:

If it wasn't so insulting I'd get a kick out of these bitcoin-related people (who want us to use bitcoins but aren't affiliated with bitcoins) who treat us, our forum and our work with such disrespect.

It's not like we haven't discussed the issue before here, as anyone who actually bothered to do a bit of research before approaching their target audience would find. It's not like we take our work and our money seriously.

Funnily enough, I'd be the perfect target audience for this pitch (if it was actually a pitch to cam chicas instead of a paid PR offering, I mean). The vast majority of my customers are my own, I can and do send them to any payment processor I choose. Why I'd want to waste time explaining bitcoins to multiple customers each day is beyond me. Let's say it takes 15 per customer to explain bitcoins. That's hours of out my day. Every day.

Another point: there's potential security issues with bitcoins, and I don't understand the system enough to understand those issues or how to prevent them. Thus I don't have full confidence in recommending bitcoins to my guys who trust me to not gently caress them over. I've worked hard to gain and maintain a base of customers who respect and trust me enough to use the payment options I recommend. Why would I want to jeopardize that on an as-of-yet unproven payment option?

I'm not even going to bother delving into the stability of the currency or why I'd want to gamble $1000's each month (even assuming I only sent only a small percentage of my guys to bitcoins to minimize risk). Many of us have written all of the above and more here on sw before and if they can't bother to read it and address our concerns then that's on them.

I think the OP's last comment in her last post sums up the situation nicely. We're not approached as professionals here because we're simply a bunch of 'strippers'. Great attitude to have on a sex worker forum. Since we're sex workers there's apparently no need to treat us like business women, and since we're not perceived as busines women why would these people bother to present a professional pitch? I feel kinda naive that I couldn't figure that out until now, the question of why these bitcoin-related people approach us like we're flighty fools who should be dazzled by some shiny new option.

I would never get involved in anything recommended by someone who doesn't respect or understand my business.
