It's kind of embarrassing how much time I've sunk into this game. It might be a really simple game underneath all the numbers, but it's a fun game and easy to pick up and play.

I always wanted to see someone do another narrative LP with Enemy Within. So much of this game is unexplained that it just begs the player to put their own spin on it. And all this speculation about the XCOM and how it gets started is awesome.

Unless you went all Otto Zander on it, this one technically already has an origin story. Sort of. I'd elaborate, but spoilers.

On top of that, another overwatch bug that squadsight snipers have is that they can use their pistols at squadsight ranges. It doesn't come up much, but it's something for those gunslingers to utilize.

Though I'm not sure on that last one because I remember a recent game where a crysalid got close to a mimetic and didn't break the effect. It's the alien counterpart to the bioelectric skin thing that reveals cloaked seekers.

Only chryssalids should be able to break cloak, and that's a proximity thing. Also pretty buggy.

4 uplinks in a square and two off by themselves is good enough to map every country. It's honestly an easier option if you're having panic problems than waiting on a nexus to finish. Plus it leaves plenty of room for all the fun buildings.

It adds a -20 penalty to the shot. On top of the base -20 overwatch shots already have, it's sorta like being in high cover, but giving them the chance to shoot you at all is still risking it.

Right, but if you've just triggered them, how likely are they to be flying as opposed to in cover (can cyberdiscs take cover at all)? Forgot about berserkers and chryssalids and had no idea about ethereals though, so that's better. I suppose with collateral damage it's more of a sure thing, too.

Floaters will just as likely start flying as hop into cover. And no, cyberdiscs cannot take cover.

RBA Starblade posted:

True, but I'd probably just finish those guys off with my mec or assault anyway. With snapshot/ITZ you only need to use one soldier to knock the group out, instead of two (assuming you don't miss).

You're missing the point. You don't need to flank, the enemy just needs to not have cover. Grenades, rockets, and collateral damage all provide set ups that don't require a sniper to move in.

Jade will probably cover it soon, but each class gets a different bonus when the get turned into a mec trooper. Going down the list:

Heavies inflict a -20 aim penalty on the closest enemy.
Snipers get plus +10 aim and crit chance if they don't move before firing.
Assaults get something like 30% damage resistance from enemies within 4 tiles.
Supports give +10 defense to soldiers in cover around them.

The suits themselves don't change based on class.
