In general scouting news, apparently Scout is going to have a major site redesign in the somewhat ambiguous near future.

Their forums has a major hardware crash over the last week and just came back up a couple days ago. The party line from Scout's techs is that the site upgrades scheduled for after March Madness are being pushed up, and that Fox made very little investment in the time they owned Scout; basically some extra web servers but the network backbone is over ten years old.

Fox pawned Scout off last month on some company that publishes magazines for male-focused enthusiast clubs, which is somehow not anything to do with porn or strip clubs. They are using Scout as a sort of web content management platform and probably bought Scout for their customer list more than anything. Doesn't exactly scream a big budget for a redesign.

The recruiting stars have been there, but offensive player development has really suffered since Meyer quit retired due to health issues.

Pretty much this. It's less that the Gators are whiffing on talent (as much as this talent can be evaluated at the high school level) and more that the maturation of those players & the scheme being implemented is woefully incompetent compared to the Meyer/Spurrier eras.

The post-Tebow Gators, even with Meyer, have been pretty underwhelming on offense.

Right, but it's never been due to a lack of talent recruiting.

Jeff Driskel was the #1 QB coming out of high school lol

Oh for sure. The talent and star recruits didn't go away, they just stopped developing into great, hell even good, players.

It's kind of lazy to just dismiss that as "missing" on recruits. Not saying that any UF fans here have, because you guys are pretty on the ball with this stuff.

It seems like the second we started leaking offensive coaches (Mullen, Gonzales, etc.), the offensive production just absolutely cratered. There was little offensive creativity with Addazio, and it seemed like there was an over-reliance on Tebow's athleticism in 2009. We didn't develop any athletes. The O became one-dimensional, player development stagnated, and then Cheeseburger Charlie finished it off with two in the chest, one in the head.

Maybe it's comeuppance for all the late 90's RUTS.

And it's official now, he's transferring. I bet he's starting come fall, I don't see Beamer signing off on this otherwise.

He'll at least compete for a starting spot. Intriguing landing spot for Brewer: very different offense than where he has played his entire career.

He was rated as the #3 Dual Threat QB in his class, 1 ahead of Manziel and 1 behind Mariotta. He's not incredibly fast, but has a good arm.

It's a shame that he hurt his back, but he did it while wake-boarding and then lied about how it happened. I'm not sure what went on in the locker room this year, but he could never really catch up with where Webb and Mayfield had gotten and there wasn't enough practice time to go around to get him there.

Did lose a bit of respect for him in airing out his problems with the college transfer system in the media, especially considering that he was given a more open release than most players get (at first it was not in conference, not in Texas, but that was changed to not in conference), but otherwise he was a good teammate.

They can't both be on the field at the same time. Otherwise how will the other one run on the field right after his brother got put on his back, then proceed to singlehandedly take on the entire pass rush, knocking defenders down one by one at a furious pace :bahgawd:

Are there team rankings for 2015 recruit names yet? Because holy poo poo you guys, Equanimeous St. Brown pretty much guarantees whichever school gets him a top 3 finish. He'd have like a 0.9998 name composite score on 247, and only because some random blogger wouldn't give him that 5th star.

In actual news, been hearing more and more that Josh Rosen committing to UCLA is basically the worst kept secret in recruiting right now, which makes me extremely happy. We're doing really well with a bunch of elite 2015 guys and apparently (your usual recruiting information pinches of salt apply) have another two silent commitments in the wings just waiting to announce. Is it football season yet.

FINALLY!

I've been waiting to post something for a while, but I promised myself that I wouldn't post about recruits unless they were committed and solid. None of this rumor or message board stuff.

Well, I can finally post about Jarrett Stidham, Rivals #1 Dual Threat QB who committed to TTU today. Listed between 6'2" and 6'4", 190 lbs, 4*, in the top 50 on all 3 services, he is our highest rated HS recruit since the recruiting services started tracking this stuff, edging out Jace Amaro by 4 spots.

I'm hoping that this is a bit of a watershed commitment for TTU as he's very well known from the camps and circuits and has already been working on recruiting others like Ryan Newsome. Tech's in good position with a few other high 4* players so there's a lot of excitement for how this class could shape up.

We have 1 other player committed for 2015, Corey Dauphine, RB from Port Arthur who we ran across while scouting his highly recruited 2016 teammate Kameron Martin.

2015 will be a smaller class, ~20 players, focusing on HS DL and OL (3-4 each)

I'm kinda OK with that because the commits are coming from pressure and that's not something VT used to have as a staff, they'd just twiddle their thumbs until NSD and hope it all worked out. I mean, they should still be keeping these kids but I think they're finally working these kids like a true staff does and sometimes that happens with an early commit. Both DBs are from Maryland/DC area which is just flake city anyway and not one of my favorite places to rely on for recruits.

Losing a good DE annoys me but the two DBs, its really their loss and it drat near doesn't matter who VT lands because of Foster and Gray.
