The shocking season one twist will be that all this time he has been secretly reviewing "riches to rags to riches" and he is now getting ready for the rags to riches part. That or they just simply don't rebuild him up, I don't see why that is needed for a season 2, there can always be more despair.

Yeah, I don't know how you could watch the Exterminator bit turn into a flown blown Heist film cliche and not think "this is absurd."
