The original Big Tuna.

I only knew the book's popularity, but the comic stole my afternoon with ease. Fun stuff. While it was not claustrophobic, I thought the environment was portrayed according to the emotional beat of each scene, whether dully oppressive, expansive, mysterious, or sinister.

Nope, nothing since the initial rumor. Supposedly they were going to announce something at NYCC, but that came and went months ago.

It's a high octane pastiche of 80's comics (especially Suicide Squad) filtered through more modern alt/art comics. The art is beautiful, inventive and weird. The only real criticism I have of it is that the pastiche characters are kinda too dead on.

Yeah, I'd describe it as Ostrander-era Suicide Squad fanfic done by a huge fan of Steve Ditko's more experimental Silver and Bronze Age work who grew up in the '80s.

It's basically disconnected from Incal.

Honestly I would have tried the first issue before buying the rest to make sure you like it/give a poo poo about the story it tells.

Has anyone checked out this new company called Aftershock Comics? They have some pretty good creators doing books. I just read the first issues of Strayer by Justin Jordan/Juan Gideon and I loved it. I also got the first issue of American Monster by Brian Azzarello /Juan Doe and it was pretty good but I was kind of confused as to what it's actually about because it jumps around a bit too much for a first issue. I also picked up the first issues of Replica by Paul Jenkins/Andy Clarke and Super Zero by Amanda Conner/Jimmy Palmiotti/Rafael de Latorre but I haven't read those yet. There's also a couple books by Garth Ennis and Marguerite Bennett but I didn't pick those up because I don't like Ennis and the Bennett book didn't look like something I'd enjoy.

I read the first issue of Super Zero now too and I like it quite a bit. It's not at all what I was expecting. I don't think the bundle comes with Strayer though because I remember skipping it because it didn't have that and it had the two books I didn't want in it and Strayer was probably the best one I've read so far.

The $15 is worth it both for a set of good causes, and you'll get Django/Zorro and Shaft, which are worth that price individually, let alone together. Legends of Red Sonja is also fairly solid, and the other stuff seems to be a mix of oddities, novelties and possibly mindlessly enjoyable trash.
