Pretty cool that one of the best players in the history of the franchise isn't going to be a Cowboy anymore because they can't spend reasonably.

Of course it's about the money.

It is, but what I meant to say was "it's not so much about the Cowboys spending irresponsibly." Even without the Ratliff/Austin contracts, this was too much to pay Ware at this point in his career.

There is basically no way he'd have been cut otherwise so yes it is because they spent idiotically forever to build the towering monument to mediocrity that is the post-1995 Dallas Cowboys.

listen man I like Ware too and Jones has made some incredibly stupid moves over the past few years but it's just not smart to keep paying that much to a 32-year old linebacker coming off injury who had a lackluster season despite no longer seeing double-teams at the line. Even if this cap move hadn't been necessary it's still not a bad move to make.

And I'm saying I don't care because he's one of the like 10 best players in the history of the stupid franchise and cutting him loving sucks and makes me mad. There were good reasons to let Emmitt go too, that didn't make it any less loving awful.

I'm sure they will replace him ably though, what with their mountains of cap space and keen drafting accumen.

Deion Branch was never really all that spectacular with Brady either.

Garcon also wasn't nearly as good as his reception numbers last year, though it's true that he didn't completely go to poo poo without Manning.

People were just all ready for Decker to be a dumb signing so they're instinctively critical of it even though that's actually a perfectly reasonable deal. I mean he's not going to put up the numbers he did in Denver, but he's better than anything they've had recently by several orders of magnitude.

The Bailey move is easy to mock but it's not a bad move. It lowers his cap hit in 2014 and as Dillusionist said, the years past the 5th don't matter and he's a dependable kicker capable of producing at range. Signing him did not prevent the team from re-signing Ware--that was inevitable thanks to the contracts given to Austin, Ratliff, Livings, Roy Williams, Leonard Davis, Marc Columbo, and Marion Barber over the last three years. But hey, it's easy to make fun of signing a the kicker, so why not? Clearly the team's priority this offseason was retaining Bailey and that's probably what they told Ware when they cut him. They said "hey we'd like to keep you but we're giving this big contract to Bailey. Hand in your playbook on your way out."

Christ, I am not saying that alone prevented them from bringing back Ware, it's just a funny contrast. And giving a kicker a 5 year deal is also stupid. It's one of the most fungible positions in all of sports.
