There's a new APC 40 out.

I... am not sure why one would purchase this. Faders I guess?

Sound design question
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvkwTsTrWeM around 29:30 or so. Its the industrial swooshy noise... is it as simple as a reversed hi hat trail with lots of reverb on it? Can't seem to figure it out.

Today I bought a Vortex keytar and a scatter-knob machine. I feel dirty.

The salesman was super happy to show me the scatter knob first.

Fract OSC, the Tron-esque synth game, is finally available on Steam.

I picked up the TR-8 last week on a whim and have been banging around with it for a few days. Overall I'm not really impressed. I kind of bought it as a stop gap to picking up a full on 909, and its not doing the trick. The samples feel 'safe' and pretty basic - without much control over them. Reverb and decay are implemented in a strange steppy way that has global effects. The scatter is loving retarded. It should simply be a beat repeat or a grain stretcher.. instead its trying to be both and just sounds like garbage. I really wish I could distort or push the box harder but it just feels like a very closed system. I'll probably dump it soon as I really feel an iPad running Gadget is FAR superior as a drum sequencer.

Oh the plus side, Vortex keytars are 99 bucks and loving rule.

There's an editor out for the TR-8 that sits in your DAW.

I'm pretty bored of my TR-8 already, maybe this will help. Maschine just seems to do everything better.

I can grab a crossgrade of Komplete 9 for 200 bucks. Do they really only offer it on DVDs? You know, because modern machines don't really have physical media options anymore..

magiccarpet

Anybody on Maschine 2? I can't figure out how to audition (or as they call it, 'prehear') sounds/samples in either the stand alone or VST. The little speaker/slider icon that is supposed to be active is no where to be found.

Re: the Resolume talk.

I do a bit of video triggering with Ableton sending to VDMX using LiveGrabber. Its a small pack of Max devices that sends OSC data. I've actually got one machine running music and hosting LiveGrabber that triggers a laptop running VDMX over wifi.

http://showsync.info/index.php/tools/livegrabber/

Its stupid easy on the outset but you can get buried pretty deep within VDMX - its really deep. Then you start wanting to make custom quartz comps and your life is over.

I've got lemur and the very early stages are fun. Once you want to anything even slightly more advanced you need to start scripting. And beyond the manual its really tricky to learn much else via typical internet whatever.

I think its about time for me to add some modular to my life. Looking to grab a core system to rig to Ableton. Does anybody have any particularlly strong feelings on either the Doepfer A-100 or the Pittsburgh Foundation 90? Thanks

Is anyone using an Expert Sleepers module? I'm running Live and have a SPDIF connector and was looking as the ES-3 but that seems to be discontinued and now I've got to buy multiple modules. Any recos?

OSCtober says I should throw something out there. Here's a WIP of a new project I'm working. This has some Leipzig-S bass, Predator lead thats been Ohmicided to hell and some Maschine drums. https://soundcloud.com/manifest-apathy/an-unreliable-narrator-demo-3

Right right, I meant the ES-4. It looks like its been replaced by the ES-40, which then needs to get coupled with an expander. Ha.

But cool, thanks for the heads up. I stupidly bought a MIDI module before looking into it too deeply.

So uhh, what's everyone's favorite Eurorack sequencer? I swear there are way way too many options in the Euro world these days but I'm going to be doing some carpentry here in a bit to build a keyboard tray under my MU modular to get my keyboards off the top of it, which will then free up space to build a few hundred HP of space for Euro stuff. Problem is, aside from an Expert Sleepers interface ( or two? ), I can't make heads of tails of the approximately 300 trillion varieties of everything in Euro. Seriously anyone planning on:

I picked up an Orbitals thats quite nice. Its 16 steps and will ping pong/reverse. Now that the Audio Damage Sequencer 1 is out people are dumping them, so a used one is pretty easy to find.

That Rene is pretty cool too but might be overkill. I'm finding that I'm starting to buy a lot of Make Noise stuff. Shits killer.

I just got a Doepfer A-192-2 MIDI/USB interface so that's taking care of my immediate MIDI sequencing needs. I'm really keen on the Expert Sleepers stuff though so I'll be curious about how you like it.

I actually started with the Doepfer for a week or so but I felt a bit limited by it. The ES, to me, has a steep learning curve but the envelopes and LFOs really sold it for me. I'm mainly using Ableton to sequence so I think it will play much nicer. I haven't cracked open much else of Silent Way yet, but it seems hugely powerful with some tinkering.
