Finally got around to watching the New Japan Cup finals. Fale isn't a great wrestler, but wow did breaking Nakamura's nose add a bunch of drama to that match. My wife got super into it by the end, Nakamura is her new favourite wrestler.

Require More Fire posted:I wonder if anything will be set up with AJ and NJPW guys at the ROH shows. I doubt they'd do anything storyline-wise, if I were NJPW I would use this as a chance to test AJ out with opponents you want to feud him with back in Japan. I don't think their home fans will be watching the ROH shows, so it's a good time to test out matchups.

Finally got around to watching Invasion Attack. Wasn't really a huge fan of the main event till they got to the ending sequence, once they kicked it up a gear it was great. Tanahashi working heel is interesting but it does make it hard for me to get into the match for some reason. I'm actually most curious to see how these booking changes affect the ROH shows. Is AJ going to be part of the Bullet Club there?

Sorry, I meant to say that yes AJ is in the Bullet Club, but will he be "heel Bullet Club leader" at the ROH shows? Or will he be "respected ROH veteran AJ Styles"? Actually I just checked ROHwrestling.com and their main image is AJ with the Bullet Club, so I guess that answers that.

weekly font posted:Can't imagine that title match isn't a Bullet Club clusterfuck to set up AJ as a heel and a bigger match down the road. Yeah that was my first thought too, seeing them put the title match where it is on the card. That's not really what I want out of NJPW though. I guess I understand though, their roster is kind of limited when it comes to title challengers so you need to have a few clunkers here and there.

I saw AJ work an indie match vs Chris Hero and it was a fun time, I'm interested to see how he does in NJPW. I assume guys in general in TNA don't feel the need to give 110% anymore. Getting a new start would be exciting.

I think some people just liked being down on AJ cause he was loyal to the shitfest that is TNA and he had some hilariously narrow minded views on gay people. Purely as an in-ring worker he is fine, especially considering how long he's been wrecking his body doing crazy matches.

I really love the mayor of Fukuoka getting mad haha. That is amazing. But Tanahashi and Nakamura. I wonder if it was the G1 that pushed them over the edge, or if they would be in this rough shape regardless.

Moving the title from Okada to anyone else NJPW home-grown would be the same matches we've been watching for the past couple years. Is there anyone on the roster right now that is pegged as "the next big thing"? I tend to skip over NJPW undercards, unless I hear of a blowaway match here or there.

Is there something about Naito that makes him not a candidate to be a top guy? Seems like he completely flopped when they set him up to face Okada.

Naito & Bad Luck Fale had a singles match already didn't they? How was it? I'm always so curious to see Fale in singles action, since he's so protected in tag matches.

AJ might be my wrestler of the year if he keeps this up. Between his NJPW and ROH matches he's pretty consistently kicking rear end. It's too bad Daniel Bryan got saddled with a Kane feud & injured, but that's for another thread. Right now AJ is the man, to me.

Anyway I'm just saying if he continues on his current trajectory and Daniel Bryan continues his streak of lovely booking and bad luck, AJ will be in a very good spot. I wouldn't consider guys like The Shield for "Wrestler of the Year" since they're a unit, so AJ would be among the top contenders to me. Amazing what getting out of TNA will do for a guy.

Really pumped for the Ricochet match. I agree with Dave, that they should be hyping that as the main event. But I don't know, maybe there is some reason and the Japanese fans wouldn't buy that as a top match instead of Fale. Also AJ in NJPW is worth is just for too sweet me

theminx posted:One thing that I think might help them out in comparison to last year is that there is alot more time between events, instead of 4 days straight, 1 day off, 4 days straight, 1 day off, finals. This hopefully will be utilized to help keep match quality high while keeping people healthier by having the off days. Meltzer has talked about the last G1 basically shortening a ton of the guys careers, even if it didn't outright injure them. It was basically a meat grinder with the pace the wrestlers tried to keep in such a short time.

Are they doing that thing this year where the 2nd or 3rd place guy goes for the title that the 1st place guy didn't choose? In this case it would be Tanahashi going for the IC title. Didn't they do that last year with the G1?

masato tatanka posted:no that was this years NJ cup. Tanahashi did go for the IC at WK8 after he came 2nd in the G1 but Nakamura called him out. Ahhh that's what it was. I mixed the two things up. On another note, I just had a terrifying thought. Now that Double J is associated with NJPW, what if he convinces them to bring in his newly fired buddy to help get buzz in the USA... after all, this man has a proven track record of success in some of the biggest companies out west!
