Foo Fighters are the best band. Here's their ALS challenge video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLZOjLv0_6k

They put a lot of work into it, just like their reply to the Westboro Baptist Church's protests (By performing Keep it Clean)

I remember my dad buying In Your Honor, and I wasn't all that into it for a long time, I would just listen to it as background music when I ran out of CDs on long trips. Then something clicked and I went back and bought Colour and the Shape, and from there I ended up getting every Foo album, I've probably listened to them all 30 times each at minimum all the way through.

I didn't even know they did the Thor ending, so when I heard it, it kind of took me by surprise and I fell in love with the song. I think Walk is very under-rated, and it's my favorite song of theirs sine Everlong.

Since everyone else did it, here's my favorite songs by album:

Foo Fighters: Good Grief
Colour and the Shape: Hey, Johnny Park! / Everlong
There is Nothing Left to Lose: Aurora
One by One: Come Back / Halo
In Your Honor: No Way Back
Echoes, Silence, Patience, & Grace: Long Road to Ruin
Wasting Light: Walk

It looks like I like the lesser songs compared to everyone else. A lot of the songs have an attachment to me that reminds me of an event or time period in my life. Foo Fighters is probably one of the few bands that will stay with me all my life, instead of being a 3-4 year fad.

Having been with the FF since receiving an n-th generation cassette copy of the first album via Usenet in early 1995, after In Your Honor and Silence Echos Patience and Grace, I'd written off the band as only being interested in ripping themselves off.

The song and video for White Limo pulled me back and goddamn, was Wasting Light the kind of Foo Fighters album I'd been waiting to hear!

Here's to Sonic Highways!

So I just listened through The Birds Of Satan, the side project of Taylor Hawkins. Has anyone else listened to it and has an opinion? I've only given it the one listen so far, so I don't really have my own opinion formed yet.

All I know is the band name sounds like a mistranslation of "Them Crooked Vultures".

From Back & Forth, based on Dave's grousing about how Taylor didn't support in him in QOTSA, and how hard Taylor is on him self over his own drumming, I get the impression that Taylor is an insecure crybaby and likely still jealous over Dave's relationship with Josh.

Naming his band as a riff on TVC/EODM sounds spot on.

I don't know about that, but it seems the band is made up of a cover band that he also works with. "...as a side-project led by Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters. The band is also composed of members Wiley Hodgden and Mick Murphy who previously played with Hawkins in the cover band Chevy Metal." Maybe he just wanted to make his own original music. But then again, that doesn't mean he couldn't have named the band for that reason though.

EDIT: ” So we did it really quick, and Dave Grohl came for a couple songs, Pat Smear came in on a song. It was all just us having some fun with friends in the studio." The quote is from an Antiquiet article, one of my favorite music news sites.

Found it out on Youtube, and I kinda like it, so far. It's a little harder/proggier than his other stuff, but still has that 70's throwback guitar rock sound.

I've got both cd's of his other side project, "Taylor Hawkins and the Coattail Riders", and they're both pretty solid. The only real downside is his voice. It's not bad but just kind of unremarkable, like it was designed for backup singing.

Wasting Light totally redeemed them in my eyes, loved colour and shape, nothing left to lose was pretty good and although I wasn't as hot on one by one, it had a few songs on there that i really liked.

when it got to in your honor and echoes etc, i felt like they were becoming a bit of a nickleback band, same tired sound over and over and not a lot of vigour to their effort.

wasting light blew me out of the water though, it was their last chance saloon for me and upon first listen i was in love.

looking forward to their latest.

It's not like they're that far removed from nickelback. It's radio-friendly modern hard rock for teenage boys. It's better that a lot of that garbage, but it's all coming out of the same pot.

It's a piece of JUNK!
And honestly I think "less Nickelbacky" is a pretty succinct way to describe the difference between the In Your Honor / Echoes era and Wasting Light, even though I think they're not bad albums.

Also "Wheels" was more or less the last song they had released before WL came out, and that song was just about the most boring thing I'd ever heard.

I can't shake the fact that the main riff really sounds like the first half of the famous "Holy Diver" riff, but otherwise it's a pretty solid track. It hasn't immediately grabbed me like "I Should've Known" or "White Limo" off Wasting Light, but I'll give it a few listens
