My parents (different last name) owe Comcast a lot of money, but we're in the same house still. It's under my name and my SSID, but will they actually care to look into it. I just told them I moved here recently and there were no issues with ordering the service

Comcast is loving garbage in their customer support and service offering but you can make it affordable if you're ok with dealing with their abysmal customer support every 6 months to complain or get into a new promotion. I've been using them for years and would constantly have internet drops or instances where I would have to power cycle the modem. Eventually it got so bad that we couldn't use the internet for more than an hour. They eventually came out and realized that one of the splitters that they installed years ago was terrible and had to be replaced. I later got a $50 service call fee applied to my bill for that which I later disputed. gently caress them. Comcast will also not allow HBOGO to be used via ROKU. They are loving terrible but at least now, I'm only paying like $70 for their lowest tier of lovely cable with free HBO and their 25-30mbps internet. What are you going to do when the only other choice is ATT's dsl?

I've been lucky with Comcast, as in my last apartment I had decent service for cheap and even had a painless experience cancelling it. Hell, after I got a cheap plan at first, some guy randomly called me and threw in cable for free local channels and better speeds for free. Maybe it was because my upstairs neighbor worked for Comcast. I sure do loving hate Charter, though.

So I live in shitville Utah, which is pretty terrible most of the time. We had this weird fiber setup that usually worked in some places but not always. As you might have heard, google just decided to buy it, and apparently some of the companies that are being replaced just stopped giving a gently caress. In my current apartment I got really variable speeds until last week, when I noticed my  I'm tempted to plug my machine directly in, cause right now my 100mbit router is the bottleneck.

took me like three years to get a tech who was smart/not lazy enough to realize there was a shitload of noise in the line from the origami poo poo in the old one and it was the cause of my lovely signal and internet which meant he actually had to climb the pole and not just pretend he did something

Have people been going out of their way to look for independent/business ISPs? My ISP doesn't even have an ad in the Yellow Pages, just address listing. They normally handle business accounts, so they don't advertise to individuals even though they have a household plan. I've had them for 15 happy years, and have yet to meet anybody who has ever even heard of them. It might be possible to find an alternative ISP in your area that nobody has heard of because they don't bother trying to compete for consumers with Comcast etc. It's worth digging a little. Of course if you already get TV & phone from the cable company, you're pretty much destined to use them because you can haggle with them for a package deal.

We bounce between AT&T U-verse and Comcast approximately every 6 months, or whenever the intro deals run out. We're paying $35/month for 12/1 on U-verse right now and we'll be switching back to Comcast once we're considered "new customers" again and AT&T jacks our rate to $60/month. Yeah, it's kinda gaming the system, but gently caress them.

Geographical monopolies are pure poo poo. I'm stuck between slightly crappy cable (Brighthouse) and even worse DSL (ATT U-verse). Best part is ATT keeps dropping flyers in my mail for "Up to 6MB down for only $49.99."

My brother used to work customer service for comcast and he said it was teh most soul crushing job he has ever had. My favorite story was the one in which this old man came in to scream that his TV had been cut off and my brother had to explain to him that it was because he hadn't paid his bill in 3 months at which point the old gentleman swept the poo poo off his desk balled up the receipt threw it in my brothers face and told him to go gently caress himself. He quit pretty soon after that and has a much nicer job as a manager at an auto parts store now. I personally hate comcast because though we are paying for the 50mb connection it routinely drops to .5 for long periods of time. And it fills me with rage. edit: OH also when you work for them you get a complimentary copy of the founder of comcasts autobiography. Which is basically BOY IM GLAD I WAS BORN RICH AND WHITE i'm sure. We destroyed that loving thing pretty quick.
