Why does everyone think I'm going to get in trouble?

It's in steamapps\common\Half Minute Hero Two\res\BGM.s2a as Ogg Vorbis files, though I don't quite get the archive format at the moment. You can extract them one-by-one by splitting the file at Ogg headers.

e: Nevermind, got it at least well enough to extract, through maybe not to rebuild. Gimme a bit.
e2: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/52687139/Tools/HMH2_S2ARex.7z
Extract BGM.s2a and rename all resulting files to *.ogg, there you go.

If you're bored you can dig around in the other game files too, GalleryTex.s2a and texture.s2a contain a lot of *.bmp files (and a few *.png files) for example.

I would just like to add that it's easy to rename everything into a .ogg file if you're on Windows and you can use the command prompt (it should be easy on other OSes too, but I don't know enough about them to really say for sure): Use the command prompt to navigate into the folder the extracted files are in, then use the command:
code:
ren *. *.ogg
Assuming you stuck that folder everything extracted to on the desktop, you can do this.

code:
Start menu -> search CMD
Run cmd.exe
cd Desktop
cd BGM.s2a.ex
ren *. *.ogg

I think there are a bunch of people who can create trailing images. I know some who could do this as if they were just going out for a stroll.
Update: HMH2.exe still has some (probably more if you expand the %d but I didn't) of the filenames, and they're referenced via CRC32 hash on the filename in the S2AR archives. So you can now give HMH2.exe as a second parameter to get them, gives you about half the music filenames.

Decided to go back through the first game thanks to this, and it doesn't seem to use my controllers? Tried with my DS4, my DS3, and my 360 controller, doesn't like any of them.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Goddamn the map editor.

I'll save you time if you want to actually make it. There is a toggle that removes several terrain tiles for some reason. Use a mouse with your pad for editing, it is so much faster.
If you want to make quests, do it before making dialog for the villagers. It wipes them out in every village, but not the grocer and shop dialogs. Text is exactly as it is displayed during edits and it cuts words off. I might be missing the tutorial on how to do expanded quests, but it doesn't say enough. The middle ground on boss strength is about 50 levels from the highest, 7000 gold for equipment/rewards. All of it is fixed stats. This needs way more functionality.

The DLC can't come any faster and hopefully makes things easier.

I'll put mine up if it magically works out.

edit: Addition to the map editor:
You can't tell what the stats of your items will be at all. Joy. The difference between my level 9 hat and 10 hat, is 40 points in each stat, of which level 9 was -20 in att/def/spd across the board.

Don't make your equipment 2500G if you can help it, short of having a map covered in monsters.

That's the virtual world one, correct? It's stupid, but at some point it auto unlocks, I'm pretty sure. I wandered around that lab for a long time to no avail; came back later and lo and behold a quest was there!

The casino got some new equipment at some random time. It is annoying how some town from some era, can get new equipment. Still missing the time key and when the old global dungeons open up.
The coliseum also had a second championship.

The coliseum's second championship opens after a medusa quest, one of the petrified people is a playboy bunny telling you that, the new casino opening is part of the championship sidequest series that NPCs talk about.

The time key is in a global dungeon southwest of Mushroomson Village, it looks like a generic cave but never shows up in an actual quest. Dunno what you mean by old global dungeons, but with the exception of championship-related dungeons they open up in sequential order, with each one having a key for the next and the last one of each scenario having a Heart Shard.

Thanks for the casino thing. I just did the stone quest when I posted.

I can't keep track of the dungeons. There is one that is filled with lava and has jellies guarding a sealed door, another has five or so sealed doors in tiny rooms with an item or two right next to each other. I was only able to open one at that time and forgot where that was.

How do I activate the second skills on weapons? Is there a condition, or are they just extremely low chance? I've literally never seen one go off.

Also, where's the earth crystal in the mole scenario? :psyduck:

Also I had a kickin' rad idea for a campaign, but you can't add your own sprite sheets. Pre-made only. :smith:

The second skills are still randomly activated. Once it does though, you can check the activation rate in the skill equip menu, I think they normally activate less then the first skill listed, but I've never bothered looking.

I think you just need to keep using the mole detector, even after you've supposedly found all the moles and the earthquakes have stopped.

You can do dick maps in the editor. Just be creative with the tiles.

Also I meant the actual sprites for characters/weapons/etc.

Anyway, do any of you remember where medal 23 is? I can't find it. It's on the fourth continent of judgement, which I guess is the ice one or the lava one? I have no idea at this point.

According to the guide, it should be under the pentagram in the Hell map.

Found those global dungeons. I thought I explored those places when I was going through each era and made that earlier post in defeat.

Erotic Novel should be from Evil Lord for a reward for title collecting.
Hero Eater should be the last title award (this isn't all the titles though)

Is it possible for Hero Castle to fail a battle? It seems that aside from bumping a few enemies, you can win every battle with the tallest castle. Bullwood seemed to be the exception with the massive HP and crappy parts.

That upgraded golden hammer skill doesn't seem to activate after a couple missions. Does it need 100 hits to gain a point?

I lost a Hero Castle battle in the final quest it's available in, so there's that.

It seems like several people don't realize they can stack castles or power it up by defeating enemies and end up having trouble even finishing the second scenario, though.

Yup, you need advanced classes. If you keep up with Evil Lord and Titles, you'll probably start getting them in Ragnarok. If you're like me (and don't collect titles a lot), your first advanced class will be the Hero class, which isn't tied to titles at all.

I might look up some japanese guides and do a quick write up on skills and some other stuff when I'm back at a computer.

Speaking of annoying skills, thanks for taking 90% of my global money, No.30.

Hero Castle can lose, but I think the damage you deal with it is cumulative. I know it is for Bullwood, but then his whole chapter is sort of an exception.

You get it from the Black Market in Stage 53: The Holy One in Ragnarok. You have to purchase the far right stone in the black market when there are between 15 and 20 seconds left on the timer.

Welp, I just finished the Demon Maze an ABYSS. I was expecting to have more trouble with them, but they really weren't that bad. I guess all that's left to do (for single player) is finish up the collection stuff (titles/equipment/19.8 million G for the Goddess room/etc.).

What's the deal with the casino? Is there any strategy to it, or is it just dumb luck? I can't take mashing Y any more, and it's resisted basic autohotkey scripts to automate using the slot machine.

I could just be doing it wrong, but I want those prizes.

It's impossible to lose if you keep at it long enough, I taped down the Y button on a turbo controller and left it going on the 25-coin machine in the last casino while I slept and it was maxed out when I came back to it.

Yeah, the payouts are (I think):

Three feathers: 1x payout
Three coins: 4x payout
Three sevens: 10x payout
Three goddesses: 100x payout

So, the only one that really means anything is three goddesses, but if I had to guess, I was averaging one of those every 30 to 40 spins. As long as you have enough of a bankroll, just keep hammering away at it and you're set.

InfinityComplex

Nothing better than swinging around a little girl like a flail.
There's a reason why you do want the lower rewards though. There's a success multiplier that improves what slots you get and more prone to getting the triple sevens or the triple goddesses. Completely resets on failures and anything that isn't either the feathers or coins.

Also:
feather = 1 coin
coin = 5
seven = 50
goddess 100 or 200 coin

The Chain Sword Plus also has a skill called Loan Break that supposedly instantly kills the loan bird, but making that weapon requires the last title reward, so you may as well just grind to level 255 in Q77. Just be sure to bring a porta-goddess and you're good to go.
