My dear Terrarians, have no fear! The strange hostage I found a mist my dungeon has somehow transformed into an anime girl and will promptly be shipping her back to Re-Logic to be remade into a sprite via Amazon. A proof of life of her can be found here:

I, Steve of a thousand Naps, return her unharmed! People! Shun me, or rally behind my cause as you see fit! I am here to change Terraria forever because I am the last hope for mankind as we know it. I stand with all of those who have no challenge in Terraria, regardless to whether they are a newbie or a seasoned veteran! Some vile Terrarians have even began to make systems to automatically spawn rabbits and then mercilessly execute them! It is a wanton and meaningless act! Therefore, I seek punishment! I cannot stand by and allow people to sit afk in their arenas while many enemies, no matter how evil, be slaughtered so meaninglessly without second thought, without the chance to retaliate against their player suppressors! I will not refute battle on a fair and level field, but niether will I tolerate a one-sided massacre of the weak by the strong! The only ones who should kill, are those prepared to be killed! Where ever those who feel the game is too easy, I will be with you, no matter how mighty or formidable the players of the game become, I will fight for equality between enemies and players. Those of you will excess power, fear me, those without it, read a guide!

I will change Terraria!

Players have set up some kind of rabbit farming system that works even when the player is idle. The post-maker is against that sort of thing on the grounds that it has no challenge. Also something about kidnapping an anime girl he found in his basement.

Go! Go! Nippon! ~My First Trip to Japan~ (the real actual title) is an educational visual novel recently released on Steam, in which you visit a Japanese friend's house for a one week vacation and visit many popular tourist destinations and learn about Japanese culture and history.

Oh, also, it has a "romance" "subplot" and features multiple images of naked anime girls.

And finally, the pièce de résistance.

Anime Love Machine posted:

This... This Game...
If there's anything I can say about this game, it's that it's changed me. Seriously.

I, being a Japanese that moved to America, knew a great deal about what is being teached to me by this game. Nevertheless, I bought this game because I'm sure I didn't know everything (which I was correct on) but the two girls really made me go for it. Come on, they're irresistable! So, I slowly and gradually played the game as little as I could each day, as I did not want to end it in two hours, even though this game is so addicting. I generally really liked the game, and this is quite possibly the best Visual Novel I've played in my life. But the ending though...

The ending really did it for me. I, being a tsundere lover, naturally went for Akira and had my ending with her. But...

Well, after seeing that, I literally, and I'm not kidding when I say literally, I just stared at the title screen for at least an hour. I am a devoted tsundere lover, but I didn't notice how... I guess I would say "enticed" by Akira until it ended. All of a sudden, I felt seriously sad. I'm probaby overreacting, but the... THE FEELS! Suddenly the game ended and I could only do two things - typing and dying. I felt myself losing grip of my life, and I couldn't even walk straight for some reason. I think I died inside. I realized that I became completely devoid of emotions, as I could not force out an emoticon other than a sad face no matter what, and I felt like as if I lost something so precious to me. I don't know why I was so sad. I technically had a happy ending right? So why...? I still haven't figured out, but that doesn't change the fact that I'm oh so sad right now. I am a huge anime lover and have indeed played a lot of anime-based games. Yes, I've played some games that made me very sad, but nothing compared to how I felt after playing this. In fact, not even in animes have I been made so sad.

I'm hoping that how I feel right now will gradually get better as time passes, but for now I feel like a lifeless body. I tried to play the game again, but after I saw how this game ended for Akira and I, I turn into a bundle of sadness. I don't know if it's how it ended, or if it's how Akira and I ended up at the airport but nevertheless, I die inside whenever I try to see her. So currently, I'm STILL looking at the title screen being spaced out, and probably will for a short while after I finish typing this because I have this awkward feeling that when I shut this game down, it's like shutting down my life as well.

If you even bothered to read my huge, and I mean HUGE wall of text, I applaud you for your patience. You might be thinking "Yeah, um, whats the point of me reading this?" I just wanted to say how I feel, because just leaving me to drown in a emotional pool of sadness isn't going to get me anywhere. You might be thinking that I'm sarcastic or I'm overreacting and all, but I can prove you wrong. Just go look at my screenshots of the game.

Serious answer though it has nothing to do with social outcasts. One of the biggest reasons is that Japan is a society that puts such a heavy emphasis on the work place that people don't have the time or inclination to have children. There's a bunch of others obviously but that's a big one.

Yes but this was probably only MORE true in the past, and they did just fine back then. I suppose you could argue that the global trend in developed countries is toward decreasing population growth, so Japan teetered over the edge of zero growth earlier than other countries.

One of the easiest things to understand is that 90%+ of Japan's population is urban. I'm not exaggerating, Worldbank.org has it at 92% in 2012. People have done more dying than breeding in urban areas since Gilgamesh's time. It's one of a handful of things that are always true about cities - they house tradespeople over self-sufficient people, they create hysterical amounts of wealth for how little area they occupy, and they have shrinking populations. The way their population stays stable is immigration.

This combined with the fact that the average Japanese worker works more hours a day than anyone else in the developed world means that their fertility rate is lower than you might expect. It's a larger phenomenon, though. If you compare the fertility rates of all countries in 1950 as opposed to the fertility rates today, literally one country in the world has had an increase, and that's Kazakhstan. It's also one that nobody really fully understands.

AugmentedVision posted:

Untrue. Japan's fertility rate has been below the rate of replacement (2.10) since the mid 1970s. Even then it was a rather temporary spike upward, in 1960 it was 2.0.
