I was very skeptical of this when I first heard the announcement, I mean they even tried to make a lovely Fargo show in the 90s, but my fears were assuaged when I saw the cast list and heard the Coen brothers were going to be at least somewhat involved.

This looks like it's going to definitely be worth watching. As someone who has (somehow) never seen the movie I'm wondering if I'm better off at this point going in blind and finishing the show first or if I should check the movie out beforehand. It's on my list to watch eventually regardless.

The show will probably have easter eggs for the movie fans.

As a Minnesotan, I approve of the ice-scraper promo clip. The little bit in one of the trailers where the four office workers are gossiping and the one guy gets shouted down was spot-on, too.

precision posted:Ah jeez! I've been working on an OP for this for two days! Ah, sorry. I browsed the last few pages of the general discussion thread and figured the show is 3 days from airing, may as well get a thread out there. I was going to get a mod to change the title and remove the date once the first episode had aired, can ask to change the quote too now. If you wanted anything from your post put into the OP just post it, or edit your first post to have whatever other information you want. Sorry for stepping on your toes.

Mu Zeta posted:The show will probably have easter eggs for the movie fans. Probably true as well. Having watched all the preview clips and with this cast it's probably going to be very hard for this show to not turn out really good. And it's on FX which seems to have a much better track record of not meddling with the production of it's shows compared to networks like AMC.

Rewatched the movie last night in preparation for this. I know I didn't need to, but the remastered blu-ray just came out and honestly I'll take any excuse to watch it again, it's one of my favourite Coens. The previous work of the writer doesn't fill me with hope but the promos have all been excellent and the cast is fantastic, so I'm pretty pumped. Trying to resist the urge to watch those first 7 minutes.

This looks horrendous. I don't think you can imitate something so particular without it coming across poorly. I saw the first minutes and the score that sounds like the score of the film but without an actual recognizable melody is just like… why.

An entire TV show dedicated to making fun of my people, half my family lives up in Bemidji and I don't live too far away so it will be interesting to see how accurate they capture the northern Minnesota mystique. The scrape trailer is pretty loving weak because there wasn't actually any ice encrusted on the windshield and ya just use the wipers if yer feelin lazy or maybe the brush if yer feelin like an adventure. I hate remakes just on principle, especially when they remake a classic like Fargo. And the idea of remaking Fargo into a television show really rubbed me the wrong way. I mean, if I really wanted to watch Fargo again, I would watch the goddamn movie. But I'll check it out with an open mind based on the cast alone. It's hard for me to ignore something with Billy Bob Thornton and Bob Odenkirk in it.

I'm fairly skeptical about this because I can't imagine WHO was interested in this being made? Everyone I know loves Fargo, but there really wasn't anything else to add to it. The whole thing just seems unnecessary. Still, I really like Bob Odenkirk, so I hope this turns out well.

I think the premise of this middle of nowhere little pile of snow full of funny accents and cute little customs being the setting for criminal plots is pretty compelling by itself. They're not adapting the film so much as taking the basic setup and doing their own thing with it. It certainly has potential.

okay I watched the first 60 seconds on Yahoo before turning off. Mild speculation based on what you see in the very first minute of the show: I wonder if that briefcase BBT looks at is the one Buscemi buried in the movie? okay that might be obvious but still, calling it now.

Not sure if it's accurate, but I glancingly read in a comment somewhere that (SERIOUSLY, DON'T HOVER THESE SPOILERS) Thornton's only in the first episode, which would be a pretty ballsy twist, but I also hope isn't true for obvious reasons.
