As to melee classes we are having at launch - Valkyrie is real slow and tanky; good solo PvP class with emphasis on crowd control. Warrior is [more] mobile short-range Valkyrie; good solo PvP class with mix of damage and crowd control. Berserker is slow and tanky mass PvP crowd controller. Tanking in PvE does not really exist like it does in other games. Besides that, I think Valkyrie is the only class with taunt abilities. In PvE (farm) both Valkyrie and Warrior can be awkward, unlike Berserker. I basically helped lead Yak's Bend from the dregs in GW2 to Tier 1 by forming my death ball around my warrior and just smashing them into enemy zergs. So that's probably what I'll do here too. I imagine melee gear scales sufficiently to be able to have some fun in PVE once I have some decent items.
