WE ARE ON ARANZEB FOR THE BETA, ELF OR NUIAN What is ArcheAge? ArcheAge is an open-world sandbox game unlike any other available in the West today. In ArcheAge you can raise your own mount, fight your way through a dungeon, craft the best armor in the game, build your own open-world farms and houses, sail your ship on the high seas to trade with foreign ports, swoop in on airships and fight other players for plunder, claim a piece of land for your guild (then fight with them to defend your territory from rival guilds!), and lots of other fun things. We’re thrilled to be able to bring ArcheAge to the West! User Shrewbert puts this question to a much more beautiful answer. To properly receive the feeling please open this Eric Clapton song for your reading pleasure shrewbert posted:Flying around on a hang-glider at 5000 ft, looking for crops to steal from other people. Taking those crops and putting them on a boat and racing for my life to a trader before I'm killed by the opposing faction, or my own faction, or pirates from a third faction, or the motherfucking KRAKEN. Main Website: English Page Is there an alpha/beta/whatever? Yes, there is an alpha for the US going on currently at all times between beta weekends. The beta event weekends have been happening every other week and thus far your best bet on getting a key is staying tuned to this thread where we provide both links to giveaways and the keys themselves. If you absolutely must garauntee your acess then you may buy one of these handy founders packs: quote:Silver ($49.99): Beta access, four-day head start, Founder title (with stats), 30-day patron pass, experimental hang glider, and 2,500 credits. An interesting bit of info about the game's development and the idea behind it The game itself is developed as a “Sandbox” – where the player is completely free to chose what to do, and how to live. He doesn’t have to develop in strict boundaries like in World of Warcraft for example. GRB (Game Rating Board) – South Korean organization, that sets a game age rating, set 15+ for ArcheAge. The budget of the game is 25 million dollars. 15 million of investments from GigaMedia and 10 million from the company’s budget. Koreans want players to have a big impact on the world: each server will be unique, due to players developing their world’s history, map themselves. There are 8 races in the game world, 5 of which are said to be unique. Lore The story concerns a battle between 12 heroes and Kyrios, the god of death. The battle results in several companions dead, an entire continent wiped out, and a mixed, perhaps non-existent victory. "The future is uncertain," the lore series proclaims. "While others linger in the legends, in blissful memories where time can stand still, I like to imagine new heroes will be born. Heroes who will rewrite our mistakes, find those we left behind, and steer us to a brighter age." You may read the lore released thus far in it's entirety below Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Races Dwarves and Warborn are planned races but they are future content for now. Getting down to the races we do have. West Continent Races Nuians Elves East Continent Races Harani Ferres (Furries) The two unreleased races are Dwarf And Warborn Warborn Lots of Info For those who would rather peruse a rather exhaustive Wiki Classes Wiki Entry Ripped straight from the wiki: The class system in ArcheAge can surprise even veteran MMO players. There are 10 specializations available in game. The options allow for the creation of 120 classes. As you develop your character, you may choose any three of the specializations for use at one time. For example, you can teach your warrior character to control the elements and use magical attacks. Of course you do not unlock all abilities from the start. As you level you main class be awarded with points that are used to unlock skills. Starting at level 10, players may change their selected specialization- for a fee. The fee is determined by the amount of skill points spent in the Skill Tree. Note that replacing one specialization with another Auramancy not automatically unlock all skills. Combat Level and Skills/Skill Trees level separately. But don't worry too much. ArcheAge allows you to switch back to previously leveled specializations without loss of progress. Meaning, you can develop all 10 specializations on a single character. Classic combinations may be found Here The Ten Specializations Battlerage This specialization includes powerful blows, inflicting devastating damage, as well as methods of buffing the warrior and weaken his enemies. Charge in, fight up close, and keep your targets from getting away! This Skillset is primarily focused on offensive prowess with passive abilities that boost your attacks and provide some compensation for dual wielding weapons. Patron of soldiers considered Kyrios, the god of death and destruction. Sorcery Smite your enemies with ranged and area-of-effect damage in the form of fire, electricity, and ice! Sorcery passive abilities increase damage while its multiple status effect combos provide ample disruption among its targets. Wizards considered their patron Aranzeb. Archery Rangers considered their patron Tayang Kaldzhit. This Skillset focuses primarily on ranged damage dealing – as one might expect – with the tradeoff of ranged abilities having a damage penalty when too close to the target. Some active abilities help keep the target at a distance while applying damage-over-time and other effects, and its passive abilities boost mobility and ranged physical damage. Vitalism Keep yourself and others alive with heals, heals over time, protection spells, and resurrection. Vitalism passives increase your mana pool and the potency of your healing effects. Patroness of these soldiers is considered Kiproza Deyer, keeper of the gates of the world. Occultism Focused on applying a variety of status effects and debuffs from a distance, this Skillset is great for bringing a few more tools to your damage or healing setup. Its passives boost your mana regeneration and chance for magic critical hits. Patroness of such charmers is considered goddess Nui. Shadowplay Fast attacks and high mobility in and out of combat situations are the specialties of Shadowplay, especially stealth and surprise attacks. Its passives lower aggro generation, increase your evasion, and boost your chance to score high-damage critical hits. Patroness of murderers considered Melisara Rivolla. Defense Patron of these brave warriors is Shatagon, the god of abundance. This is the primary Skillset for those who want to pick up a shield and take some damage, packing the high-protection skills, taunts, and damage mitigation of a “tank.” Its passives focus on blocking and reducing incoming damage. Auramancy Hero who has chosen this path, move instantly on the battlefield using Teleportation, while remaining virtually invulnerable to magic attacks enemies. This support Skillset deals in buffs for the caster and their group, debuffs for your enemies, and a mix of light healing, defense, and crowd control. Its broad toolkit makes for good group support. Patron of soldiers considered Hase, god gates and seals. Witchcraft This Skillset is all about crowd control – both applying and removing it. Witchcraft spellcasters lock down fights and control battles while their passive abilities increase defense and crowd control intensity. This school considers Daut, the goddess of the seas and change, their patroness. Songcraft This specialization encourages fighters with the sounds of a lute or a lyre.As the Skillset for any aspiring bard, Songcraft comes with a variety of tricks. Its abilities include ranged damage and crowd control, buffs and small heals, debuffs, and more – all good tools to have access to whether solo or in a group! Its passives primarily boost Songcraft abilities. Lucius is considered the patron of the bards You combine 3 of these to form the various classes. Current class list is: quote:Hexblade World Size Archeage Online boasts a huge map, bigger than World of Warcraft's. The map currently consists of 3 continents, the Haranya and Nuia and Auroria. There are 2 factions in the game, which of course are at war with each other. These factions occupy the 2 lower islands which make up the game's Realm Vs Realm content. The Middle island is an isle devoted to PvP/Piracy and it's many forms since it is not owned by a faction but by players. The isle houses very high end turn ins for trade packs and a mob that drops a unique boat schematic. Additionally players may form factions to take control of the northern continent Auroria, warring against not only eachother but Haranya and Nuia as well. The map, further, is divided into regions with very little instancing. There are multiple dungeon instances in the game, vast ocean areas, and a variety of overland areas. One of the miscellaneous areas is Mirage Island, where all manner of houses, boats, and furniture may be bought. The seamless map design makes it hard to distinguish when you enter a new region, although you will know when your map changes. This means that if you aren't paying attention it's easy to get lost, but at the same time it's easy to find a nice and comfortable site to build your house as each region on the Eastern and Western continent has housing locations. (Yes, this is in-game footage) Transportation Within Archeage there are a variety of ways to travel, boats and ships, cars, wagons, portals, ground mounts and gliders. PVP There are two main factions in the game: Western (Nuian) and Eastern (Hariharan). These factions are in war, so you can kill any player from other faction without penalties. But if you kill or hit your ally blood stain appears on the ground. Such stains contain 6 or 10 crime and infamy points. These stains can be gathered by other players and if they activate the gathered stains a killer will get infamy. After a player has 50 crime(not infamy) points if they suffer a death from another play they will be teleported into the criminal justice system to stand trial for their crimes. Several other players will be summoned into stand judgement over you with a list of information such as your crimes, your past convictions, your total crime history etc. You will know you have passed this point because you will have a debuff called "Wanted" After a player gets 3000 infamy points he will be included into Pirates’ Faction. It is a special faction with pirates only. Each pirate is enemy to other normal players. Pirate’s island is a place where they live, trade, build houses and sell loot. They can create guilds and attack castles. After a pirate dies he will be moved to Pirates’ Prison. A mandatory 30 minute prison sentence Combos Synergies between the abilities in different Skillsets are called combos. Most combos are based on an ability applying a status to the target that causes another ability to do more damage or apply another increased effect. Some combos are specific synergies between abilities: After you jump away from a target with Shadowplay’s Drop Back, you can instant-cast Sorcery’s Flame Bolt. Combo effects applied by an ability are shown as small icons at the bottom right of the ability mouseover’s stats section. At the bottom of the mouseover text under “Combos,” you’ll find a description of abilities that can trigger a combo effect. Abilities that have special effects on other abilities will have these listed in the ability text by name. Sieges There will be special mass PvP battles with 100 players on every side. The goal of a battle is to take control over castle. There are several castles in the game, but players can build their own castles. When a siege starts siege machines and fleet attack can be used. There are several types of siege machines in the game. Video of a player siege. Fairly old but still gives a good general idea The concept in a siege is to capture the rotating glowing sword thing inthe center. That structure is what claims the territory around it. Housing Youtube Video of a group of people building a house. Houses can also be built in many places throughout the world and come in various types, sizes, and architectural styles. You can construct different houses, which vary by size, type and architecture. This system lets you construct your own house from labor points and resources. Others may also contribute labor and resources to your construction. Once you build a house you can also choose the furniture, as well as get a yard or a farm where you can grow fruit and sell it to other players. Prison When you uproot other players hidden farms, kill a faction member, or attack a faction member you leave behind clues in the form of blood or footprints. When a certain amount of said clues are turned in as evidence against you, you'll gain the wanted debuff and any death by player will teleport you into the criminal justice system. Boats and Naval Warfare Naval battles will be a big part of the ArcheAge experience and as such being able to build and customize your own ships is an impressive feature. You can customize decks, number of cannons, ship, health and additional characteristics in a coming update that is already on the Korean server. Ship battles will also be affected by wind speed for larger ships and more which all sounds amazingly detailed and most importantly fun. XL is also constantly add new seamonsters and boats for players to use and combat. Such as a massive vessel with retracting cannons and a fully functional on ship organ or a giant sin like creature from FFX Giant Organ Ship and Ghost Vessel New giant sea monster Ship on Ship PvP Arena Goon are bad with boats Youtube Video of a ship battle. Youtube Video of ship construction. Youtube Video of ship to ship combat as pirates attempt to steal other players ships Player Video of more ship to ship combat PvE video of the sea based raid content currently in the game. The Kraken. General pleasure sailing video. Crafting and Proficiencies Being a game with a player driven crafting system it's quite important to have a diverse and powerful group of crafting specialties. All of these abilities can be maxed out on a single character just like the combat specializations. Not all of these create objects as well. Larceny, for example, specializes in being a detriment to other players. I am sure no upstanding goon would ever consider taking that particular skill however. Alchemy Potions, gear enhancement stones (Lunastones), reagents for other crafting recipes, dyes. Carpentry Wooden weapons, furniture. Commerce Regional Specialties (trade packs), also gained by successful Auction House sales. Composition Gained by writing and saving sheet music for the Composition system. Increased skill level allows you to write longer compositions and play compositions without mistakes. Construction Non-production skill. Gained by completing construction steps on structures and ships. Cooking Make food and drinks that provide combat buffs and health/mana regeneration. Farming Planting and harvesting fruits, vegetables, or grains. (ex: corn, rice, tomatoes) Fishing Gathering skill. Salt and freshwater fishing, plus sport fishing for large fish! Gathering Planting and harvesting herbs and flowering crops. (ex: azalea, clover, cotton) Handicrafts Instruments, jewelry, fishing tools, miscellaneous home décor. Husbandry Care and feeding of domesticated livestock. Larceny Non-production skill. Gained by theft of unprotected crops or livestock from same-faction players. Leatherworking Leather armor, refining pelts, other leather goods. Logging Gathering skill. Maintaining and chopping down trees. Machining Vehicles, ships, gliders, and associated small parts. Masonry Hereafter Stones, refining stone. Metalwork Plate armor, refining ores to ingots. Mining Gathering skill. Collecting ore and gems from mining veins. Printing Paper, music paper, books. Tailoring Cloth armor, refining fabric. Weaponry Creation of metal weapons. Labor Power The labor system ties ArcheAge’s various crafting, gathering, and construction sub-systems together under one umbrella and provides the player with a pool of labor points that power most of the activities. The labor points accrue at fixed intervals regardless if you’re online or offline. Also, high-level users can use their labor power in more luxurious activities (such as going to a dance party) and also purchase the labor power of lower level users for crafting. XLGames would like the users to enjoy the game with less burden. So, with such a labor system, you can actually run a corporation. Pay people daily to work for you, and you get all your projects finished fast and reapp the benefits, while the users get the money they need each day. Since Trion is localizing the game for both the US and EU I wouldn't be surprised if we share a beta server. I'd hate to see something like the mass banning of IPs like the RU server does. Kazvall posted:Nice OP. I've been semi-excited for this game ever since I heard about it. Naval Battles are awesome. Do you control the entire ship by yourself, or do you need a crew? From the videos I have seen one person steers and others fire the cannons. As for if someone is required to run the rigging I think it's not likely. Would be pretty neat though.

The only thing actually being tested here is probably the server hardware and looking for any translation errors, what few are probably left.

MajiinFreddy is a pretty cool streamer that I would recommend. I learned a lot from him earlier last year and he streams pretty regularly. He switched over to the RU servers but is now in the Alpha for US (I think he's Swedish?). InporylemQQ is apparently streaming now too. He had (has? I haven't checked it in a while) a YouTube account with a bunch of PvP videos but looks like he is getting into streaming also.

Just to make it clear, MajiinFreddy is playing right now too. His stream is... well he reenforces that gamers are trash (you'll know what I mean when you see his stream), but at least he actually plays the game, so that's something. I watched a little bit, and i'm gonna just wait until I can buy my way into the alpha. This actually looks like an MMO I would want to play.

^^ You can have my RU account if you want! TBH, MajiinFreddy had a brony image on his boat back in the KR version, so he is a brony and probably not the ideal person, but he does play the game like you said. He does farming and trade runs and all that jazz, so you get to see a lot of the game when he plays.

Skimming the OP made me think of something. If you steal from or kill allied players, you leave stains behind that others can take and "turn in" to be used against you. Does that mean that if you do all that poo poo with a buddy he can just take the stains and never turn them in, protecting you from retribution?
|
# ? Apr 17, 2014 20:09 |

I think the stains are temporarily permanent and anyone that walks by can see and report that person. If X people report him, then he's guilty or whatever.

The livestream was kind of lame. They gave away some alpha keys at the end in the dumbest way possible. Their random number generator was broken so they picked three times and gave the keys to whatever idiot was spamming chat at that timestamp earlier in the stream. They also said that the English class names would be released in a few days. "Soon" was the answer to most questions about the Founder's Packs. It sounds like the "beta" will just be weekend events. Alpha is the real beta.

Correct thats how Trion does their testing. Alpha is the core testing group and lucky people to obtain keys via hoops, the beta is nothing more than promotional weekend events. Both Rift and Defiance had this testing system.

I've been playing this game a bit on the Russian servers and while I haven't been to sea much I know that you need someone to control the ship and then one person controlling each cannon that you want to fire. A single character can't control the ship and fire cannons at the same time. But the real answer is that people don't really do ship vs ship battles in that way, even though it's possible. Instead, they use their gliders to fly from their ship to the enemy ship and then kill the people on it in a standard PvP way. But it's still pretty cool.

Paxman posted:I've been playing this game a bit on the Russian servers and while I haven't been to sea much I know that you need someone to control the ship and then one person controlling each cannon that you want to fire. A single character can't control the ship and fire cannons at the same time. Is there any way to booby-trap a ship? Or alternately, fire cannons against your own ship once people glide onto it?

You definitely can't fire on yourself and I don't think there are any booby traps. I'm not sure if anything stops you simply despawning the ship though. Battles at sea often involve one group trying to carry a load of trade goods across the ocean so in that case they'd still be screwed if they managed to scuttle their own ship.

Well this is certainly... ambitious. Does it risk being in development for so long that it becomes outdated?
