Gates to Infinity and Sky are tied for my favorite PMD game. Gates for the story, Sky for the gameplay (but the story's also pretty great). I enjoy the supporting casts from both.

I actually want to LP Gates to Infinity sometime, but not having a modded 3DS makes that kinda hard!

I'm honestly surprised! I thought I was the only one who liked Gates's story. :allears:

That said, as for why Skitty is Stupidly Hard Mode: Drifblim. For those who have played the game, here's some more explanations that only make sense in context: Unburden. Ominous Wind. Speed.

Past that, Skitty has an incredibly shaky start given Explorers' penchant for stacking the early game with Fighting and Rock types, but the differences to the Super Effective equation mean that once it overcomes its slight lag in attack stats, Normalize becomes a boon instead of a burden, with the single disadvantage of never being able to stack multipliers.

Incidentally, the STAB equation is part of the reason why Castform is so ungodly broken; it stacks multipliers on Weather Ball like nobody's business.

EDIT: For some reason I was spouting wrong information. I thought STAB had a boost in the PMD games, but it's the same as always, the 150%/200% (with Adaptability) boost. That's still better than super-effective unless you're hitting a resistance, though.

The thing about what I mentioned is that it's a room effect move, and it stacks. It has a 10% chance of proccing per hit, though with the RNG and confirmation bias, that'll sure as hell start feeling like a 50% chance per hit once you're struggling to keep up with stupid balloons getting four attacks to your one with the equivalent of a Nasty Plot under their belt when you're only managing half damage on them no matter what you use. Without items, it's a nightmare. With items it's just a significant hazard to be aware of.

Regarding that second part, it's not like those are mutually exclusive. :v:

Of course not; she doesn't have Run Away. That said, she's like most of the other partners that lack a decent ranged and/or room-effect move: functionally dead weight. At least she's not actively detrimental like Eevee is, though.

In Sky, levelling is less important. The Experience curve is about the same as in all the other PMD games, but there's another mechanic in play later in the game that makes that curve less of a thing to worry about. :getin:

All in all, it's probably the easiest of the PMD games as a whole, even if Attract now properly works based on gender.

I wanna say the difference between the basic attack and Tackle is something like double damage with STAB, but I'm not sure. Skitty having a powered-up basic attack right from the start is still kinda helpful, though.

KataraniSword
Apr 22, 2008

but at least I don't have

I am my own man.

A basic attack will generally hit in the ballpark of 5-6 HP at this point in the game, and Tackle will generally do two to three times that damage, assuming you're hitting something that doesn't resist it. Against one of the Water/Rock types in the Beach Cave, you're looking at more like 6-7 HP per Tackle. (Of course, this is with a non-Skitty pokemon; I don't know if Normalize applies to the basic attack or not.)

The gap will get much bigger as the game goes on; a basic attack won't typically do more than 30 damage to an enemy near endgame, but your moves will typically get stronger faster - I think one equation is additive while the other's multiplicative, but I can't be sure of that.
