All days are nights to see till I see thee; and nights bright days when dreams do show me thee.

quote:

L.A. Clippers owner Donald Sterling told his GF he does NOT want her bringing black people to his games ... including Magic Johnson ... and it's ALL on tape.

TMZ Sports has obtained audio of Sterling making the racist declaration during a heated argument on April 9th with V. Stiviano ... after she posted a photo on Instagram posing with Magic.

Sterling rails on Stiviano -- who ironically is black and Mexican -- for putting herself out in public with a black person (she has since taken the pic down). But it doesn't end there. You have to listen to the audio to fully grasp the magnitude of Sterling's racist worldview. Among the comments:

-- "It bothers me a lot that you want to broadcast that you’re associating with black people. Do you have to?" (3:30)

-- "You can sleep with [black people]. You can bring them in, you can do whatever you want. The little I ask you is not to promote it on that ... and not to bring them to my games." (5:15)

-- "I’m just saying, in your lousy f******* Instagrams, you don’t have to have yourself with, walking with black people." (7:45)

-- "...Don't put him [Magic] on an Instagram for the world to have to see so they have to call me. And don't bring him to my games." (9:13)

Additional Facts that don't need to be brought up all the time:

Sterling has a long, long history of doing really racist poo poo. He settled in a cases regarding housing discrimination in which it looked like he, in fact, was very discriminatory. Elgin Baylor sued him for a discriminatory workplace (jury acquitted).

quote:

Players Sam Cassell, Elton Brand and Corey Maggette complained to me that Donald Sterling would bring women into the locker room after games, while the players were showering, and make comments such as, ‘Look at those beautiful black bodies.’ I brought this to Sterling’s attention, but he continued to bring women into the locker room.”

I'm gonna repost the WEREWAIF list of things owners have done/do in acquiring their ownership as context for why the discussions on DONALD STERLING seemed to be more people who don't post much about basketball usually:

WEREWAIF posted:

Most NBA owners got their money through shady nasty stuff. If there aren't published scandals, you could talk to a writer from the company's hometown paper and get information about all the horrible things they've done. Let's do a rundown, if someone has more info feel free to add on.

Celtics- Stephen Pagliuca was part of Bain capital and gutted companies, Wyc is a private equity guy too, you can see an article about what they did to guitar center here http://boingboing.net/2014/04/04/private-equity-an-infection-t.html

Nets- Prokhorov is of course an oligarch but not one of the worst, he just lucked into getting massive copper mines for negligible cost from the USSR

Sixers- Josh Harris is a leveraged buyout guy, his partners are other private equity scumbags

Bulls - Jerry Reinsdorf made his money by creating real estate tax shelters

Cavaliers- Dan Gilbert was a subprime mortgage guy

Pistons - Tom Gores is another private equity rear end in a top hat

Bucks - Herb Kohl made his money selling cut price sweatshop clothes to America

Clippers- Sterling is a racist slumlord

Lakers- Wholesome basketball only Buss family

Heat- Micky Arison inherited his father's cruise line, which he made wildly profitable through the deployment of mercenaries and helicopters to break American merchant marine unions for good. A really horrible motherfucker.

Timberwolves -- Glen Taylor's company is huge and prints tons of stationery and junk mail all over the world

Thunder- Clay Bennet is part of the 2nd largest fracking company in the united states

Magic - Dick DeVos cofounded the massive pyramid scheme called AmWay. That's it. Why is it legal? I don't know.

Blazers- Paul Allen is a microsoft guy, made his money through antic-ompetetive practices and enclosing the commons of "working in an office"

Kings- Vivek Ranadivé is a wall street technology person, which is actually not as bad as being a private equity person

Spurs- Peter Holt is the chairman of Caterpillar and a notorious union busting piece of poo poo

Rockets -Leslie Alexander was a bond trader and owns a private student loan company

This isn't to say Donald Sterling ain't done nothing wrong by saying awful stuff to his girlfriend, but y'all should keep in mind when expecting Sterling to be removed for it that you may never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than a group of professional sports owners. But there's certainly some That Old Guy Is Awful fatigue for veteran ball-watchers. They can also tell you which stars have assaulted their wives/girlfriend and have a developed ability to ignore things in order to watch a basketball game.

Google "lockout" if you want to see how a threat of players refusing to play might affect a group such as that as whole.

I think the scandal might be slightly surprising to folks who follow all kinds of basketball because they'd known he was a monster for a long time and figured people didn't actually care, what with how they usually don't. Personally I wish all teams were run by the Green Bay Packers, I love the connection that fanbase has to the team, but that ain't gonna happen, and I'm not certain y'all should get your hopes up expecting much more penalty for Sterling than maybe he has to watch games from a tinted owner's box.

V: So do you have to treat them like that too?

DS: The white Jews, there's white Jews and black Jews, do you understand?

V: And are the black Jews less than the white Jews?

DS: A hundred percent, fifty, a hundred percent.

V: And is that right?

DS: It isn't a question—we don't evaluate what's right and wrong, we live in a society. We live in a culture. We have to live within that culture.

V: But shouldn't we take a stand for what's wrong? And be the change and the difference?

DS: I don't want to change the culture, because I can't. It's too big and too [unknown].

V: But you can change yourself.

DS: I don't want to change. If my girl can't do what I want, I don't want the girl. I'll find a girl that will do what I want! Believe me. I thought you were that girl—because I tried to do what you want. But you're not that girl.

A strike is when players refuse to play. Lockouts are entirely owner-driven as they are ready and willing to shut down the league to negotiate more favorable terms with each successive CBA. That probably supports your point even further.

Unless you meant the threat to decertify, effectively a threat to stop playing for multiple years, which actually resolved that whole lockout mess up quite quickly.

I think this is speaking to the Bundy guy as well. It's a good opportunity to show the world that racism is not yet gone, despite what the Supreme Court has to say about it. So many people like to wave their hands and say everything is fine these days, and the more public ammo you have to show that it really isn't, the better.

Ah, yeah that was a little unclear. I meant that I don't believe the owners group--who have proven themselves willing to lock out its players and scrap the whole season--is probably not going to feel any acute pressure if 2/30ths of the players said hey we don't want to play a few games.

A strike in the playoffs at the very least would cause absolute chaos.

Whether it will accomplish anything else is up in the air, but it would cause absolute chaos at the very least.

Baylor claims the team has "egregious salary disparities" based on race. Baylor claims he was told to "induce African American players to join the Clippers, despite the Clippers' reputation of being unwilling to fairly treat and compensate African American players." Baylor says the owner, Donald Sterling, has a "pervasive and ongoing racist attitude."

Baylor cites the case of NBA player Danny Manning, where Sterling allegedly said, "I'm offering a lot of money for a poor Black kid." The suit claims Sterling repeatedly referred to the team as "poor Black kids" and "he wanted a White coach directing the Clippers." Baylor says he personally got stiffed, only being paid $350,000 a year since 2003, when a "Caucasian head coach was given a 4 year, 22 million dollar contract."

Here's the best part. The suit says, "At all relevant times mentioned here, Mr. Baylor was an African American male over the age of 40."
