bobtheconqueror posted:I was under the impression they were going to go for an MMO expansion model with Destiny. Those early dev diaries when they were talking about 10 years of Destiny sounded a lot like a WoW or Everquest model where you buy the game, then buy expansions over time to keep you playing. Considering it's basically a Halo MMO anyways, I just kinda figured that's what they'd do, content-wise. Destiny is going to crash and burn so hard. The audience they are targeting is going to forget about it as soon as the next Call of Duty comes out and the poopsock crowd that will actually devote years to playing the same game are mostly on PC. Even most Hollywood CG-fest movies these days don't cost anywhere near $500 million and those have a much larger potential audience. The question is will it be a normal flop that results in a lot of layoffs or a truly epic Daikatana-esque flop that takes half of the game industry down the toilet with it. That $500 million number is pretty bonkers. I actually think the game will do fine, but Activision throwing that much into marketing is still crazy. For me, a decent shooter that gets good content expansions would be pretty cool, but that was essentially Borderlands, or, for a less successful and probably more similar example, Defiance. They have to hit a perfect point to get a decent crowd that'll stick around, cause you're entirely right that a bunch of Halo fans are gonna pick this up, play it for a while and do some PvP, then drop it for CoD of Battlefield or whatever.

At least there's the chance that basketball and hockey fans will be around to humiliate gamers during the event, seeing how the Clippers and Kings are doing. ... You know, that being the part that came true out of all the "crazy future" tales our media told us really says something about us and the world we live in.

I am struggling to think what possible market they think they are trying to hit with a console only shooter mmo. FPS mmos are a horrible idea in the first place because the only thing that makes mmos work in the first place is GCDs and autoaim spells to make up for the fact players will be trying to play with pings up to the 500ms mark where shooter gameplay is functionally impossible. Are they going to make data centers for Australia and other geographically unlucky places or have they decided to write them off as potential customers?

I'm looking forward to at least one of the conferences dedicating 20 minutes to a service which won't be available or relevant in my area, I re-watched some snippits of the Microsoft E3 2010 and wow is that big section to ESPN cringeworthy. "COLLEGE FOOTBALL GUYZ" On a more positive note, more games to be announced that I won't be playing for a few years yet, by the time I make the jump to PS4 there will be a crapton of things to play for a much cheaper price. Bring on Project Beast.

I just.... I just love E3. As much as I like games, games are so stupid, and I love that the premier event for showcasing games is the dumbest thing about them. It's a beautiful play that filters out the unneeded bullshit and keeps the concentrated dumb that is the core of the industry. It's fast become my favourite time of year, as it ushers in a endless collection of vids, gifs, and soundbites of nerds and clueless business types being giant loving idiots saying the dumbest things possible, in the worst way possible.

I wasn't looking forward to anything at E3 since the likelihood of new SSX and Katamari games being announced is minuscule, but a sequel to Dishonored would be fantastic. I remember there being a lot of rumors about it not long ago, so hopefully it makes an appearance and isn't terrible.

Apparently Mass Effect 4 might be announced at E3. Do people even like that series anymore? Didn't that franchise go south really quickly? Or is this a case of EA just not having much of a plan other than Sequels Sequels Sequels!!!! Rumors about Sony's conference leaking today, could be a hoax, who knows: - Media Molecule is working on a VR game for Project Morpheus - Sony Japan debuting multiple titles, one of which is Project Beast - Uncharted 4 to get "in-engine" 3 minute trailer The rest sounded like complete and utter fanfiction so that's all I'll transcribe. I wonder if Media Molecule will ever develop a game that's actually as fun to play as it looks. The 7th Guest fucked around with this message at 19:33 on May 7, 2014 |

Last I heard of ME 4 was the team that did the mp in 3 was going to be in charge of it. I think the only thing I really want to hear game-wise is anything on persona 5. Most of the games I'm super excited for this year are either well known or kickstarter games.

Whenever I ask people about what they want for a new Mass Effect game, they usually say they want some procedural crime game about being a CSec officer on the Citadel, and that's it. If ME4 isn't that in some form, I'm not sure there will be any interest at all.

I was thinking it would be kind of cool if they did some more focused stuff with the ME setting. Get some world building going by doing more specific, smaller games, then I thought it would be cool if they did a starfighter kind of game, then I remembered that the first game explicitly said that fighter craft were impractical (in this setting) as much more than glorified sensors due to ftl travel and light lag, but for some reason the ending of 3 had a whole shitload of fighter craft and then I get upset.
