What amazes (and terrifies) me is that I used to do admin stuff at HeavenGames, and I see that the Steam workshop already has stuff in it from people I remember from almost ten loving years ago.

You know, for some reason it took ten years for this to click. It's really strange that we have Egyptians, Greeks and... Vikings? The last one just kind of sticks out. I know it's because they're a really visible and well-known mythology, but I really would've liked to see some Celts or maybe Phoenicians as a faction.

R'lyeh gets it when their myth units do poo poo and have no heroes because what hero would ally themselves with such terrible things?

An age of mythology 2 should just be the RTS verison of Super Smash Bros, but with religion.

Atlantis is lame, why did they create a fictional mythology when there were so many cool ones to choose from? And then make it ridiculously overpowered... Rushing with the robot Atlantean unit is basically impossible to beat.

Titans is hard partially because Kastor sucks. the second mission, well, the AI just doesn't know how to deal with arcus + walls, which is the only meatshield you can afford before the first couple of waves. Once you get up and running you can smash his face in though. also: heroes chew up automatons for breakfast.

Been having some technical issues with AoM. It chugs periodically (Sometimes stalling out for up to 20 seconds), which on its own is bad enough, but I just had a crash and it spat out some kind of memory error. Anyone else having similar issues? I'm on a Win7 machine with like 16gb of RAM.

I remember one hilariously easy level in the titans campaign. You had an Egyptian base and faced endless hordes of Atlantean clay myth units that split into two weaker ones when killed. Even titan difficulty was a cake walk.Anatharon posted:What about Empire Earth?

Massing priests to kill the titan in Egypt instead of the guardian is still the best way to do that scenario.

Any decent replays out there? Had a good practice match on easy 1 on 1, as gaia. I am so out of practice it's not funny, even on easy the AI was beating me to each new era by about 3 minutes. Doesn't help that I've completely forgotten how every faction plays..

Just make sure you read the pros and cons of each god (minor or major), and try to stay to a set path in regards to purchasing unit/armory/whatever upgrades. Make use of your god powers to turn battles around, and remember that even just sending 10 hoplites + ajax (for example, if playing a greek god) to gently caress around near the enemies base causes damage to them.

My fondest memories of AoM are from playing alternate multiplayer maps, namely Helms Deep and the King of the hill based one where you got progressively more powerful units as time went on. Was that Mythodea? Also is the map editor still in the game?

AoE3 is pretty good, and I always loved how buildings and ships actually showed damage being done to them. I always thought conquest of the new world was an extremely under used setting for games. There's maybe 4 games I can name of the top of my head that are set in that era (Aoe3, Conquest of the new world, Colonization and Seven Cities of Gold). I really cannot wait for AoM to get a little cheaper. I'm unemployed right now so I can't really justify spending over 20bux on a game on steam. But I think after Aok, AoM was the game i played the most. Egypt was by far my favorite faction.

Bloodly posted:Can you explain what the importance of AHK files is? they're autohotkey files used for debugging that are included with Age2HD, along with some some developer ingame user profile debris. The AHK files are pointless to run because they attempt to load scenarios from an X:\ drive which the user doesn't have, but they're on the release build because reasons. Also, logging is turned on all the time.

True, now I remember that you couldn't have several teams. I can't do 2v2v2v2.

So I think this was asked before but didn't get an answer: Are there any good replays/commentaries of this game on YouTube? I don't feel like shelling out €30 on this right now, but it'd be great to watch some gameplay of this. The only one I've seen so far is the SergiuHellDragoonHQ guy, but something about his accent makes it hard for me to watch for some reason
