Killing Floor 2 is coming to Steam Early Access for Windows and Valve's SteamOS. When? Not as soon as I may want, Gibson says, but sooner than I may expect.

I have been waiting oh so very long for this day not knowing if it would ever come.

EDIT:
Killing Floor 2 UI Designer Turnways is in this thread, he is happy to take and pass alone any suggestions you may have.
The project is still technically under wraps so be judicious with any question you have for him. He does have to abide by Tripwire's non-disclosure policy.

Remember how satisfying it was when you FINALLY fully leveled up your favorite character class?
I hope they don't make leveling up too easy for the "casual gamers".

I have decided not to buy into anymore "early access" games. It sets a bad trend for the wrong kind of people and just fucks up the gaming landscape.
But I'll totally make an exception for Killing Floor 2.

They should make leveling go a little faster but also have a prestige system. Start each game with an extra £5 for each prestige. :getin:

If anything I would expect more and longer poo poo to grind judging by the bizarre unlock system that was tacked onto RO2.

e: Also, iirc the guy that voices the male players is the vice pres of Tripwire or something. So good chance he'll be back.

This post probably contains a Rickroll link!
That makes it more meaningful because filthy casuals won't ever get to experience the joy and wonder that comes with max leveling a character class in Killing Floor.

I didn't ask for this but I'll surely take it! Left 4 Dead never scratched the co-op zombie itch nearly as well as this did. And the gunfeel was so nice too. And now its mocapped? I really can't wait for it now.

Based on the PC gamer interview, Killing Floor 2 is set in France so we can expect to hear some horrifying french accents alongside our returning cockney accented favorites.

Now I need to know what is the Parisian slang equivalent for dosh is.

It's "thune"

One Day I Will Return To Your Side.
I played the first killing floor for like a few hours a while ago when it was for free, I never really 'got' it, it didnt really seem actiony enough to be action-fest like serious sam or survival enough to be better than the alternatives out there like left for dead, also the enemies like that glowing shooter dude is complete OP horseshit. it always struck me as kind of a half-baked CS mod more than anything.

I hope that with this game they at least focus on whatever strengths they had, I'll keep an open mind and try this out.

What, no Mac version? I suppose restricting their Unix-like porting efforts to just Linux will help them to avoid the sort of gently caress-ups that have been present in the Mac and Linux versions of the original KF since day one.

For instance, the Mac version still mostly fails to maintain perk/achievement progress across matches unless you actually complete the entire achievement in a single round. And, depending on your sound device, it will also try to set it to output 16KHz, after the game has already started mixing at 44100Hz. Oh, and task switching is completely disabled while in full screen mode, and they use the Windows standard Alt+Enter as the full screen switch hotkey instead of the standard Control+Command+F introduced by Lion.

Oh, right, the guy who bugged them about those issues back in 2012? He's long since banned from the Steam forums. I bumped his topic, but never got a reply.

Maybe a fresh game gives new hopes to hold out for, but I'm not holding my breath.

EDIT: Interesting call, using the SAM to bypass the leveling. Sure would work better than my attempts to use the Zed Spawning Zone user map. On both the Windows and Mac ports of the game, the penetrating headshot training alley eventually crashes the game after you've gibbed enough targets.

"Not actiony enough" is a fair thing to say, so long as you're talking about the lower difficulty levels. From hard upwards you can easily get overrun and it gets balls-out crazy at that point. I hope you didn't just play it solo, too.
As to OP horseshit, that changes when you learn what weapons do what. You can stunlock higher-tier enemies with the right weapons, and certain classes are better at taking certain enemies out. It's little deeper than it first looks, and really rewards a well set-up team.

But if you don't like the first one, I can only hope that means you won't like the second. Because I'm hoping it's essentially the same game but with more gore and interesting perks. Having said that, the developers seem to be saying that almost everything in the game is moddable. This means there's bound to be a server somewhere running some other version that suits whatever mechanic you prefer.

I saw some pretty loving batshit mods for the original on occasion. I remember a server holding 32 people with custom maps, custom perks going up to level 20 or quite possibly more, custom weapons like a lightsaber with Force knockback, little autohealer bots you can deploy, and custom zed swarms that were absolutely pants-making GBS threads INSANE, invisible turbospeed sirens, some sort of fleshpound-alike that guarded its head against headshots, miniature patriarchs, and the real patriarch moved at sprinting speed at all times, could fire his chaingun while running, and fired rockets in volleys of 6.

I'm not entirely sure it was actually fun, but it was... different. :psyduck:

e: Forgot that I recorded it in action. It only got crazier on the next map.

I stopped playing the first one after a while because it always became the same thing. People simply finding the best place on the map to camp and just parking there. It was dull that the gameplay wasn't more dynamic and the game needed something to stop people from turtling like that.

Booted up the original KF for the first time in a while, forgot that feeling you get when bumping into a fleshpound and then realising you've strayed too far from your team.

Wonder what the new enemies will be like.

This was definitely the biggest problem with it. They added some objective maps to the first one that forced you to move around that were pretty good. Some core mechanic like the L4D2 spitter, but with spit that lasts for 5 minutes or something like that would be good for the traditional horde style maps.

edit: Also, welding was loving dumb. A mechanic that leads people to stand, staring at a door, holding down a mouse button for 5 minute stretches is poo poo.

Objective mode is a good idea, but Tripwire hosed things over by making enemies like the Fleshpound and Scrake spawn in Wave 2. It made the maps a complete bitch to complete unless you had a very coordinated team or were in Normal and had everyone at level 6. Stupid poo poo like that made objective mode go from a nice twist to annoying bullshit.
