Seeing that fateweaver freaking out about how he couldn't properly see your fate I take it those fae you killed in front of him won't be coming back... Also, gotta make a Persona3 Nyx reference before someone else does. Alavaria fucked around with this message at 12:48 on May 20, 2014 |

One thing I noticed in this video and it might just be the area you came into. It's a lot more chug than anything else. It's hard on the eyes to actually watch it or maybe that's just how the combat now goes.

This continues throughout the entire game too; characters are constantly flipping the gently caress out over the fact that the PC is unbound by fate. Even the effective Gods of the setting are more than a little perturbed (or in some cases rampantly opportunistic) when they realise what's going on with you. It's done very well and the whole thing about you being fateless is of course a vital story element. In most other games there's very little recognition that you're essentially Death incarnate. Here? A number of your enemies are going to flip their poo poo at the prospect of facing you.

Really glad I found out about it, it got me back into CRPGs after burning out on EA-era Bioware.

Especially later on after word about you gets around there are a number of bosses who just completely freak out and break down upon realising you've come for them. And of course there is an endless stream of guys who are all "Haha you can't beat me I am fated to defeat yo- oh gently caress ow that hurts aagh"

I believe he meant that the framerate seemed to drop noticeably when you left the tutorial cave and weren't in a conversation. At least, that's what I saw when I watched the video. If it wasn't an issue with the source video, then maybe something happened with the encode or when Youtube processed it.

Looking again, the framerate drop is in the source video, but there's not a whole lot I can do about it. When we transitioned from Allestar Tower to the outside world, the game loaded every zone in Dalentarth. The only discrete load points in the game are for dungeons and between major areas (the forest, the plains, the desert, etc). Otherwise, it's all a gigantic open space.

A lot of the sidequests in this game are pretty rote fantasy fare, but in the (hypothetical, non-existent) sequel it'd be interesting if, due to you mucking up fate SO MUCH, that suddenly they hire better writers and all the sidequests get a lot wilder.

Putty posted:i think 30% of all the quests in this game are "find my friend please oh wait he's dead" There are a lot of NPCs in Amalur who wander off into the ovbiously unsafe wilds peppered with groups of omnicidally hostile monstrosities every 15 - 20 meters and expect to survive their journey. In fact one of the running themes of Amalur seems to be that everyone who isn't the player is an idiot. There are a few exceptions to this but they are mostly notable plot characters so it's not that surprising that they're slightly more competent.

You can pick up a number of super awesome unique ones too, especially one of the DLCs has some amazing ones for you to find.

I made a fascinating discovery! A pure mage build is hella fun! You are REALLY squishy, but if you time everything right, none of your enemies should even get near you. And if they do, you have spells for that! It requires you to game the ability point system, so making one from scratch isn't a good idea.

Sylphosaurus posted:I have to agree there. For all it's faults, Kingdom of Amalur really makes playing a Mage fun. At about level 25. I mostly go for pure spellcasting and no weapon skills. That means I get the entire thunder line, the entire fire line, mana shield (don't max out the sprites and skills, their physical attack power is iffy and plateaus quickly and their long range moves are a bit naff. I mostly get these for novelty) and healing. The Faer Gota is actually really good cause he has decent attack power and can steal health pretty reliably. One combo from him is enough to get you to full health. The triple-element attack is pretty disappointing. It looks cool, but doesn't do a lot of damage. The ice tree's projectile is pretty alright, but the cyclone has wonky hit detection. Oh and obviously get the thing that reduces mana costs. If you wanna get weapons, I prefer staves and chackrams. Hope you can find a good talisman.

Okay, now I am kinda interested. The game looks bland as hell, but apparently you can use chakrams? And they don't suck? Is a throwing weapon specialist character viable? Because that's one thing I'm missing in just about every RPG since Morrowind. I might this game is what I'm saying.

New video will be up in the next day or two. But no matter that. If you're in the United States, you don't need to be in today anyway. You need to be outdoors eating grill charred meat! New videos are coming Very Soon! Also while recording commentary for the next video, we decided that because there was so much talking to NPCs, and because all the conversations were so close together, that voiced commentary just wouldn't work. The NPCs wouldn't let us get a word in edgewise! And so, have a teaser for the next video! Also accidental TweetDeck popup. The next video will not be done in Comic Sans MS
