The only "caveat" I'd give to Tropical Freeze, especially compared to most 3-D Mario games, is that it is loving hard. It's brutal hard, it will loving murder you by world 2 and it doesn't let up. The bonus temples are especially vindictive. None of it is bad at all, it's all great fun but if you've been weaned on babby games for a few years, Donkey Kong will kick your teeth in and shove a banana down your throat until you cry.

Luigi is basically the best. Except for Waluigi, but Waluigi will never be a playable character outside any of the party/sport games.

Nintendo had a big drop in profit during the Year of Luigi, I like to imagine people blaming that on him instead of bad Wii U sales has worn him down into a cold, tired, go-karting murder-machine. You want profits? Here's your profits.

Trying to get a concensus on which of the two is better is basically impossible. Some people think Rayman Legends is the best 2D platformer of all time and others think Tropical Freeze is the best platformer of all time. All things considered though you probably won't be disappointed. Rayman Legends is really good. Bruceski posted:Waluigi's entire shtick is being a poor sport. Uhm that actually sounds perfect for the kind of player in-fighting that the New Super Mario Bros games and Mario 3D World encourage.

Skapegoat posted:Since this was brought up, How does DK:TF stack up to Rayman Legends? I played Legends on the Vita and thought it was fantastic. Should I get the DK game after having played Legends? If you're more into the Sonic-y type gameplay of going fast and Gamepad gimmick levels, you'll love Rayman. If you're into the slower, well, DKC type of platforming challenges (very,VERY challenging in the case of both DKCR and Tropical Freeze) with kinda lame bosses then Tropical Freeze is for you. But honestly both games are great so get them both.

The Rayman games feel almost like iOS-style auto-runners to me, inasmuch as the levels, enemy placements etc are designed to keep you on a certain "line" and once you find that optimal line they're just there as fodder to mindlessly bounce off without having to think too hard, whereas DKC makes you think a little harder about each obstacle and doesn't ever put you on auto-pilot to the same degree (aside from the literal on-rails stages, I guess, but even they give you a decent amount of latitude).
