CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT: Bad Religion - No Control: one of the best start to finish albums ever, regardless of genre (even if you take out automatic man and I want to conquer the world; they're far from the best songs on the album anyway). I agree that newer BR is fairly bland/uninspired though.

Guys, guys, please. I know there's a wide range of punk between eye-rolling horrible and better stuff like the aforementioned Bad Religion album. But in retrospect, it's all bad. All of it. Bad.

I skipped this entire thread because I gave like half a poo poo about NOFX about 15 years ago, but I've moved to Switzerland and there's tons of people just graffiti'ing NOFX everywhere here.

Did anyone post the video of Fat Mike going to the warped tour bible study session? Because that's the most important thing NOFX ever did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIgk96LVjeE

I saw the Buzzcocks live, close to a decade ago and it was so embarrassing to see elderly men trying to rock out. NOFX must now be in their late 40s and that can't be good. Aging punk bands are even more ridiculous than your standard touring corpses like the Rolling Stones or Springsteen. It should be illegal to play rock n roll past the age of 35 unless you are black

Yeah punk is great for what it is but it's something you really should grow out of. Making a career of it, eh. I dunno. Do what you gotta do and all I guess but I sorta don't care about your tenth album if it sounds the same as the last five but worse. I got poo poo to do too you know

JawKnee posted:punk bands should only be allowed to put out one album and that's it I feel like any punk band probably has enough spunk and energy to put out one unambiguously awesome single. Collecting all those singles would be really good listening--I mean, not to start a fight with any diehard Stiff Little Fingers or Damned fans, but have they done anything better than "Suspect Device" and "Neat Neat Neat" in their entire careers? The albums are okay in a kind of late '70s background rock noise way, but I dunno. Basically any punk band probably has at least one really good song, but most aren't the Clash.
