http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double-slit_experiment The double-slit experiment is a demonstration that light and matter can display characteristics of both classically defined waves and particles; moreover, it displays the fundamentally probabilistic nature of quantum mechanical phenomena. This experiment is sometimes referred to as Young's experiment.[1] The experiment belongs to a general class of "double path" experiments, in which a wave is split into two separate waves that later combine back into a single wave. Changes in the path lengths of both waves result in a phase shift, creating an interference pattern. Another version is the Mach–Zehnder interferometer, which splits the beam with a mirror. In the basic version of this experiment, a coherent light source such as a laser beam illuminates a plate pierced by two parallel slits, and the light passing through the slits is observed on a screen behind the plate. [2] [3] The wave nature of light causes the light waves passing through the two slits to interfere, producing bright and dark bands on the screen—a result that would not be expected if light consisted of classical particles.[2][4] However, the light is always found to be absorbed at the screen at discrete points, as individual particles (not waves), the interference pattern appearing via the varying density of these particle hits on the screen. [5] Furthermore, versions of the experiment that include detectors at the slits find that each detected photon passes through one slit (as would a classical particle), and not through both slits (as would a wave). [6][7] [8] [9] [10] These results demonstrate the principle of wave–particle duality.[11][12] Other atomic-scale entities such as electrons are found to exhibit the same behavior when fired toward a double slit.[3] Additionally, the detection of individual discrete impacts is observed to be inherently probabilistic, which is inexplicable using classical mechanics.[3] The experiment can be done with entities much larger than electrons and photons, although it becomes more difficult as size increases. The largest entities for which the double-slit experiment has been performed were molecules that each comprised 810 atoms (whose total mass was over 10,000 atomic mass units).

Clownfish can change gender. Around a typical clownfish-infested anemone you will find one female, one slightly smaller male and a group of several tiny, ungendered, juveniles. A. If the male dies, one of the juveniles will begin growing and developing into a male. B. If the female dies, the male will begin to grow and begin the process of Biological Gender Reassignment to become female. At the same time, one of the juveniles will begin the transformation into a male. C. This information would have made Finding Nemo a much more interesting film.

There is no known purpose for the human nasal cavities. In fact, some doctor's recommend filling the cavities with a medical foam to prevent infections. You can do this yourself at home using an old cotton t-shirt and a pencil.

In fact, northern summer is when the earth is the furtherst away from the sun. eg here's more about it: http://csep10.phys.utk.edu/astr161/lect/time/seasons.html ----------------

The faster something moves, the slower time moves for it. At the speed of light, time does not move. From the point of view of a wave of light, the same moment it is created, it also arrives at its final destination. To an observer watching this same wave of light, it may take billions of year for it to arrive to its final destination.

The 'shovel' appearance of a human penis has an evolutionary purpose. If a cavewoman had sex with two different cavemen, the second caveman would use his penis to shovel dirt outside the cavewoman's cave, thus proving his genetic superiority.

THS posted:if you throw two objects from the tower of pisa they will both land at the same time unless you throw one of them harder This is only true if you throw them from the same side. If you throw them off opposite sides, the one that was thrown off the 'lower' side (due to the leaning of the tower) will land first because of the coriolis effect.
