Haven't done enough pew pew to know if they have a point, but the tears are delicious. Mouse/Keyboard is actually pretty great if you're used to Freelancer. Eldragon posted:IMHO they should make ramming damage on the amount of shields remaining; acting as a cushion so that two ships ramming eachother with full shields have their momentum stopped and have a small tap instead of obliterating eachother. Just make it a lore thing: shield generators will feedback and overload the more inertial stress is put on the generator itself, so the faster you're moving when you hit something, the more shields you lose when the system tries to bring you to a full stop. That way, someone going full tilt into someone moving much slower will take a larger hit to shields than the ship they hit.

drunkill posted:The mosquitos were the plane that really, really pissed off Goring because it was able to bomb Berlin at any time and outrun most enemy fighters, plus it was wooden so quick to built and fix. Interestingly enough, their flimsy construction actually made them harder to shoot down in some cases; the explosive rounds that would easily go off when impacting against the aluminum skin of other fighter planes at the time would simply pass harmlessly through the canvas skin of the Mosquitoes. The wooden construction also allowed the airframe to be constructed easily by nearly anyone with a pulse, as woodworking is far easier to pick up than metalworking. The Mosquito was a pretty neato airplane is what I'm saying.

Friendly Tumour posted:Isn't a destroyer bigger than a frigate in modern naval parlance? Modern naval parlance has actually been on a bit of a sliding scale, to the point that a modern "destroyer" can be comparable in size to a WWII-era cruiser and a modern "frigate" can also, weirdly, be comparable in size to a WWII-era cruiser (depending on who built the thing). Basically this classic lineup: Octopode posted:Yes. Corvette < Frigate < Destroyer < Escort Carrier < Cruiser = Battle Cruiser < Carrier = Battleship < Super Carrier has largely been made irrelevant because a lot of navies realized that ship classifications in the age of guided missiles have become meaningless. In 1975, the United States Navy actually capitalized on this to close a so-called "cruiser gap" between themselves and the Soviets by... reclassifying a lot of frigates and destroyers as "cruisers." USS Bainbridge, formerly a frigate, now a cruiser USS William V. Pratt, formerly a destroyer, also now a cruiser USS Independence, technically a frigate I think???? except no one cares because it's terrible

The self destructs would kill people entering the zone since everyone would always warp in at the same spot. More pertinently, STO is instanced and you could at that point in the game very easily switch to an instance where Earth Spacedock wasn't constantly wreathed in flames, but nope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swB-CbSZZdw You can also see my favorite thing to came out of the whole "Brush with Death" saga in the second half of the video; someone figured out you could invite Klingons onto a Federation bridge using the social tools, which would still allow you to massacre them at will. Eventually, a GM got called to the BRIDGE OF DEATH in response to player complaints, and left us with "technically, you're not breaking any rules and they really should know better than to accept a bridge invite from a total stranger." (bonus: turns out it also worked if you got Klingon conspirators on a Fed bridge and started inviting Fed players) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3mhXgOGivU

It's not an achievement, you're not going to get the same kind of smug satisfaction from showing off your $10,000 Rolex as you can with your (stripped-down and weaponless) internet spaceship. fake edit: wasn't XPLOR the guild that bumped up its membership count a hundredfold by inviting the entire RSI forum into one PM chain? I love this photo because it has one of my favorite stories attached to it: the plane was being flown by a new pilot with his instructor and collided with another plane during a training exercise. The instructor told him to eject, but he insisted on landing it himself because he had no idea that the entire wing was gone. McDonnell Douglas didn't believe them either, until they sent in photographs.

I thought the point of a patcher was to only update the files that are actually new instead of just dropping a new install in every single time there's an update?

Was the Cutlass really ever expected to go toe-to-toe with a proper fighter like the Hornet though? I always got the image of a fast, heavy raider, with good firepower and speed but not much in the way of maneuverability; more of a hit-and-run scavenger than a purebred fighter.
