You know where you are? You're in the suburbs, baby. You're gonna drive.

Today California Chrome tries to become the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 to win the United States Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing (or simply, the Triple Crown) after having won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes last month

There are also some undercard races at Belmont Park today, coverage is on now until 4:30pm on NBCSN, and then switches to NBC until the end of the Belmont Stakes itself.

Race winners:
Acorn Stakes: Sweet Reason
Ogden Phipps: Closed Hatches
Longines Just a Game Stakes: Coffee Clique "by a flared nostril"
Metropolitan Handicap: Palace Malice (Winner of last year's Belmont Stakes)
Manhattan Stakes: Real Solution

Any idea what time the race actually starts? I don't know if I can make it through two more hours of pre-race nonsense.

About 6:45, I think.

Also, OP I believe that second race won by Close Hatches was the Ogden Phipps, not the Ogden Fifths.

I was very excited to see Palace Malice win again. He's a monster of a horse.

I want to see a triple crown winner because it's a cool feat to pull off and rarely happens.

Oh I completely agree. Some of the interviews they did of past "spoilers" just came off as odd. I was getting an MMO vibe from how they were using the term casual.

Argh why didn't I use Coffee Clique. Oh well, go Chrome!

Dumb and Dumber (Neumeier and Battaglia) pick Tonalist and Wicked Strong (god I'm so tired of that story, yeah we get it already the Boston Marathon got bombed).

Horse names are hilarious, especially in the lower stakes and maiden races. The owners just don't give a gently caress and name them whatever. (Flip Flop, imacattoo, Secretariat, etc.)

I'm at my local track right now (Fairmount Park on the Ill Side of St Louis) and it's packed. Won a bit with Coffee Clique earlier which was fun. I've also got my mother's bets in front of me--she gave me a $20 and told me to put $5 to win on the four best horses that aren't Chrome.

I think owners have a secret desire for a chance to have the silliest name for a Triple Crown winner. Who wouldn't want to see a horse named General A Rod next to Secretariat and Affirmed?

It's not true for Wicked Strong (or California Chrome) but a lot of times the names are a combination of or play on the sire and dam's names, which is why a lot of them are so random-sounding.
