I've got brain damage, can some explain this to me in simple, clear terms?

the OP has noticed that trans people usually have the sexual orientation most common to the gender they were assigned at birth.

So born a hetero man who trans into a woman who likes women?

I guess

you'd have a hard time arguing that it's just a coincidence that transmen are most often gay and transwomen are most often lesbians

I don't think it's a particularly interesting thing to notice, although it supports the idea that sexual orientation has a strong biological component

they aren't, though. trans women are most likely to be bisexual overall, and the majority of trans men are straight

are we both working from ancedotes here? literally every transman I've ever known has been attracted to men, and I've known a few

i'm using a couple of studies that are linked on wikipedia out of haste:

for women:Leavitt F, Berger JC (1990). Clinical patterns among male transsexual candidates with erotic interest in males. Archives of Sexual Behavior Volume 19, Number 5 / October, 1990 (this one gives 38% bi, 35% lesbian, 27% straight)

for men: Devor H (1997). FTM: Female-to-male transsexuals in society. Indiana University Press,
Ira B. Pauly (1998). Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation. In Dallas Denny, ed. Current Concepts in Transgender Identity. Routledge

huh, thanks for the info
