I work in a game shop on the weekends. I confirm it all. The owner's of the shop I work at are actually really outgoing and nice, and about 20 percent of the player base is just normal people. 50 percent are nerds that I'd never want to hang out with outside of the store, but are fine in small doses.

But there is a 20 to 30 percent of people who are just messed up. Huge guys in their 40s who have never and will never touch a girl. The weird 30 something that plays yu-gi-oh with 12 year olds. Lots of pony stuff, there are quite a few magic players who come in with pony play mats, pony sleeves, pony everything.

I was running a tournament the other week and this guy in a fedora was keeping his deck under his hat between rounds, and made a point to make a show of pulling it out to each of his opponents.

Oh, the worst, though. The worst are the people who have prepubescent anime girls on everything. Their clothes, their playmat, their sleeves. I really wish we would just ban scantily clad anime girl stuff. One guy literally calls his stuff "jail bait stuff", and is so proud of himself about it.

Wait, so this guy wears his hat and keeps a deck on his head under the hat?

Yeah, between rounds, it was stupid. And, even if he didn't do that, I'd still have hated that kid. Everything he said had to be prefaced with, "I would like to....", he sounded robotic or as if he was following some "This is how to speak to people" guide.
