I wish there were more bike lanes and poo poo but drat I can't help but get annoyed at the guy slowing down traffic and causing bad drivers to freak out. Also even though there are a ton of sidewalks in my city it still isn't very bike friendly because there is a ton of dead space where you have to awkwardly cross traffic if you want to get to the next sidewalk/bike lane. It annoys me when one neighborhood puts in a sidewalk but the business next door doesn't have one. Sephiroth_IRA fucked around with this message at 14:55 on Jun 10, 2014 |

fixed gear bikes are the devil unless you're racing in a division that requires them (why would you do this) or its on a mountain bike. just my two cents

There are two types of d-bag cyclists: those who just want to get from one place to another in one piece but are too stupid to know how, and speed demons who like to pretend they have the ability to morph back and forth between pedestrian mode and vehicle mode depending on whichever suits their needs at that particular second. Both types make me want to support mandatory licensing for all bikes, including plates and the equivalent of an actual driving test. I'd certainly feel safer bike commuting if I knew the morons around me had to pass a test to ride in public. (Also, expand the 'mixed traffic' section of driving exams).

I almost got taken out by a blind person a few weeks ago. They had just gotten off the bus and were sticking their blind person cane right across the bike lane, and they were obscured behind a tree. Those blind people canes are thin and hard to see too, so I was barely able to stop from flying over the handlebars due to blind assassins loving up my bike lanes. Outlaw blind ppl is what im trying to say, or at least make them get licenses and plates.

Rest assured, that jackass decked out in lycra on a $4000 bicycle, riding in the middle of the street and running red lights, is the same kind of dude who will go home after he's finished his workout, jump into his AMG Mercedes and drive like an even bigger rear end in a top hat.

Agreed, but mtn bikes are an exception. Every mountain bike I've owned has cost more than my motorcycle, but when you're buying a full suspension downhill bike you're basically buying a motorless motorcycle.

As long as close to the shoulder of the road as they safely can without hitting a pothole/grate and wrecking they dont bother me at all. the cars that ill sometimes be stuck behind who are too chickenshit to pass them without having to completely pull over into the oncoming lane once it appears clear out of fear of hitting them or whatever (idk why people do this) are more of a problem, and god forbid they spot a car heading directly towards them 1/4 mile down the road and jump on their brakes halfway through their overtaking maneuver. Most of the time I don't even have to cross the double yellow to drive past them, and I don't exactly drive something the size of a Ford Fiesta either...idk why people nearly have panic attacks when they are faced with having to pass someone on the road going 20-30mph on a bicycle, it isn't just old people that do this either. Sometimes early in the morning on weekends during the summer though large groups of spandex clad cyclists like to completely whore up entire heavily traveled roads in the suburbs to have their own Tour de human being, despite the occasion presence of actual dedicated/marked bike lanes, they insist of blocking all traffic in their direction of travel while going half the speed limit. I have no issue cutting into the oncoming lane and blowing by them at full throttle but most of the time people driving cars just get nervous amd freeze up, traffic just hangs up behind them, and any chance of over taking without killing urself and others becomes impossible unless you are driving a Lamborghini. Overtaking cyclists in an extremely loud and smokey two-stroke moped going just 10mph (or even slower than that) faster than they are is the greatest though. gently caress I hate those douchebags. Plus often they are using up space on our winding shoulderless parkways instead of the bike specific paved trail that runs parallel to the road. These guys are the bike equivalent of ricer street racers basically. I got my drivetrain replaced on my cross country bike recently and the guys at the shop kept trying to upsell me on aluminum components and all this other weight weenie poo poo and I was like "give me the poo poo that will last the longest" to which they replied "well it all lasts a long time" (this is not true btw) and that it was "all about how light you want to go." gently caress that poo poo, give me steel everything you fuckin toolbags.

And please attempt to pay attention and reasonably obey the same road signs that cardrivers have to before you get accidentally run over and someone has to live with killing some dude on a bike with a family who didn't want to bother stopping for a red light because it would have messed up their pace or whatever. Reflective clothing and/or lighting is a really smart investment too. That aside i have no issues 'sharing the road'...as i said cars attempting to share the road with cyclists usually create most of the problems/annoyances.

Because most people have basically no physical situational awareness. They absolutely cannot figure out, for instance, how big their car is, what its turn radius is, etc; they literally have no clue just how far is the passenger door from their own body. These are the same dipshits who take twelve tries to parallel park. Sorry but the case is that the vast majority of people piloting massive murderous tons of steel actually have little to no idea how to operate their vehicles beyond "push pedal, turn wheel."
