my sister uses youtube lps to babysit her children. my nephews 3 and 5 love watching people play minecraft and will do it for 12 hours a day. my sister loves it because she doesn't have to be a parent. lps are a godsend. ergo, if you like to watch lps you have the maturity/intelligence of a 3 to 5 year old with an absentee parent. i might break my sisters computer so these kiddos aren't 300 lbs by their 10th birthdays

redstormpopcorn posted:Twitch.tv's face streamers are the precursor to Fahrenheit 451's parlor walls. This. Why do people actually watch twitch and other game streams? Sometimes you just want to chill and watching games is pretty low stress. It is also social as you get chat and interaction with other people watching or the streamer. It's a good way to review a game. Would you believe some man-child game journalist who has been paid for a review, or just see someone playing the game for yourself. You can even ask them about specific aspects of the game or game mechanics. Some streamers do specific interesting runs which are , some are charity runs and some are just exceptional at a particular game.

Two reasons to watch streams/LP's: I watch LP's to see if a game I'm interested in looks cool enough to buy. I sparingly watch replays of pro LoL games to improve my own play. Why anyone watches them for recreational purposes instead of playing games themselves?

The only let's plays I find acceptable to watch regularly are games I would never play otherwise, so usually terrible games like AVGN or Lowtax's channel. Watching a stream of someone playing just any popular game for an extended period of time... why? A girl I know supposedly makes $200 a week or every other week just from streaming herself playing video games. I told her, "you know that you're getting all those views because they are jerking it watching you play, right?" "Yeah I know."

Modern games are a lot like work, mmo grinding and stuff, grind this farm this, better to watch someone else suffer. Dark Souls for example, as much as I enjoy it, watching others suffering through it is comparative and sometimes more entertaining, this is not counting the PVP of course.

it can be really entertaining with the right personality/game, and they actually know wtf they are doing. i used to stream a few games and people couldn't seem to get enough of my mount and blade 24/7 rap stream for some reason
