monster on a stick posted:That sounds suspiciously like "Steam sales lower the price people are willing to pay for games." No it's more that there were a ton of also-ran bundles popping up everywhere and some were sketchy as hell. It's already died down a bit though, I feel like the peak of the bundle craze has passed.

Anyone know how well the GoG Ultima games run? I feel a need to pay for old school RPGs I'll likely never play.

I won 80 bucks at the casino, it's all going to Video Games! Ok, My recommendations. XCOM: Enemy Unknown Turn Based Strategy. Aliens are loving up Earth. Build a Squad, turn them into robots and abominations of mankind, kill aliens, save the world. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords RPGs that might be the best thing ever done with the Star Wars Franchise outside of the original three movies. If you are a Star Wars fan, you have no reason not to own them. They Bleed Pixles Super Hard platformer about a demon girl having bad dreams. Controller is a must. Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition Do you like Turn Based Strategy? Warhammer? Sport Games with RPG character building? Letting out a blood curdling scream after your forth player gets injured on a double skull? You will love Blood Bowl. BigRed0427 fucked around with this message at 16:42 on Jun 18, 2014 |

While we wait for the Steam Sale everybody owes it to themselves to visit http://www.gog.com/: They sure know how to make sales Steam-oldschool style as nowadays we won't be seeing such crazy deep discounts.

Spelunky is on GoG flash sale for 75% off. I dig rogue-likes and it seems cool. It says that the DRM free version doesn't have daily challenges... worth waiting for a possible steam sale or go with GoG?

I doubt it's going to go on sale for much cheaper than that (I don't think it got a daily or Flash Deal in any previous Steam Sale yet). Also the rest of the collection for $5. But I already own the only good one of that set, Love For Sail, on disc and it works perfectly fine if you get the patched installer for it.

Pretty sure Spelunky has seen as deep a discount on Steam already, so I'm sure you will see around that price during the sale.

I can't bring myself to buy from GOG because they don't give Steam codes. I know that's the point and all, but if I don't have it in my Steam library, I will literally forget I own it.

I played through the first one, got partway through 2 and 3, and am in the middle of 4 right now with no problems - they run pretty well in Dosbox packaged as-is from GOG. You'll probably want to download the Ultima patcher to do some cool stuff, like upgrade the graphics, fix some game-breaking bugs, etc.

I'd throw out a recommendation for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, the best game of the series and the best one for newcomers to jump into. The modern day stuff is blegh but isn't a big deal, the cities are fun to run around in, and most of all ships are a blast to sail around and fight. There's some good side mission stuff to spend your time with but in case you get tired of all that the fast-travel system is very generous. I think it's one of those games goons will continue to recommend every sale like Dishonored and Sleeping Dogs etc etc. As for AC4's DLC I don't think any of it is necessary but Freedom Cry is a good side-story DLC after you beat the main game. The season pass is Freedom Cry + multiplayer poo poo (blegh) and preorder bonuses, the gold edition is the season pass + an Aveline mission that goons didn't seem to care for. There's only a few games this sale I'm interested in - I've made some good progress through my backlog but don't want to add games I won't even get around to by the time of the winter sale. A couple weeks ago I beat Sleeping Dogs (great game) and I bought that last summer sale

In a more noble, purer time our beloved AxeManiac would review every single game on the new release list for Steam in a fantastic short-review format called Steam Shots. He has moved on ahead, but at the least the history remains, so check ShotGaming.com for reviews of games you aren't sure about; the search functionality of his site is solid. Also if this sale is like any of the others it'll have a community choice set of deals, so here's a reminder: The community is terrible and picks bad games constantly.
